Twist & Buckle - Churros with A Twist

I’ve always had a soft spot for churros, the crispy fried dough stick Spanish snack. But the lack of variety in flavor makes me get tired of it quickly. You won’t have to worry about that at Twist & Buckle where you can choose from 10 different glazes. Twist & Buckle offers 10 different types of glazed churros alongside original churros paired with chocolate, hazelnut or dulce de luche dipping sauce (+S$1). If you are getting the mini churros, you have to get at least 2. I personally prefer getting 2 small ones where you can choose different toppings. My personal favorites are Crunchy Matcha and Pistachio Crunch. You can also add S$2.90 for ice-cream together with your churros. Twist & Buckle Address: 238 Thomson Road, Velocity @ Novena Square #01-26A, Singapore 307683 Opening Hours: Monday - Thursday 11.30am - 9pm, Friday 11.30am - 9.30pm, Saturday 11am - 9.30pm, Sunday 11am - 9pm Website:   https://www.twistandbuckle.com.sg

Seoul Noodle Shop - Korean Knife Cut Noodles

There’s a long queue at Seoul Noodle Shop in Suntec City Mall every time I pass by and it piqued my curiosity. What’s so special about this restaurant that makes so many people willing to queue for hours? I decided to try my luck at Seoul Noodle Shop’s flagship restaurant in Tanjong Pagar. It wasn’t as packed even during dinner time. The Food In case you are wondering, Seoul Noodle Shop specializes in knife-cut noodles. They also serve rice soup as well as side dishes. I can’t eat spicy food so I ordered   Half Chicken Noodles   [S$18.50]. The broth is flavorful but I find the noodles a little too floury and not chewy enough. There really is half a chicken on top of the noodles, but it’s a tad difficult to eat it with spoon and chopsticks. One of the rice soup option is   Busan Gukbap   [S$18.50]. The soup itself is pretty mild-tasting, you can add in the accompanying shrimp and chili sauce. There is also a small bowl of barley rice, kimchi and pickled radish. Mul Na...

Revisiting PUTIEN - Classic and Innovative Fujian Cuisine

My boss knows how much of a foodie I am, so he included PUTIEN vouchers in the hongbao he gave me for Chinese New Year. I have been to   PUTIEN   in June 2023 and I liked the food there so I was more than willing to revisit PUTIEN. The Food PUTIEN Bian Rou Soup   [S$4.80] is like the putien version of wanton. The dumplings are tiny with morsels of meat in silky dumpling skin. They are easy to eat, perfect at start of the meal to whet the appetite. ‘100-Second’ Stewed Yellow Croaker   [S$16] is one of PUTIEN’s signature dishes. They use fresh small yellow croakers which ensures tender meat. Braised Pork Trotter and Abalone [S$44.80]   gives you the best of both worlds of meat and seafood. The pork trotters and abalone are both tender and juicy thanks to the aromatic braising juice. It’s nice to change up the regular kailan with   Stir-Fried Kailan with Bean Curd Skin   [Regular S$16.80, Medium S$25.20]. The kailan is crispy while the bean curd skin is p...

Ajiya Okonomiyaki Restaurant - DIY Japanese Pancakes

It’s been a long time since I last went to Osaka and I have been craving for the Japanese pancakes known as okonomiyaki. There are a few restaurants in Singapore specializing in okonomoyaki, I decided to try out Ajiya Okonomiyaki Restaurant. Ajiya Okonomiyaki is a small restaurant hidden in the shophouses along Jalan Jurong Kechil, a few shops from   Micasa Kitchen & Bar. You can find their menu   here . You can choose to make the pancake yourself or get the staff to make it for you. There are several okonomiyaki options but the most popular is   Ajiya’s Combo   [S$18]. You can customize your okonomiyaki by choosing 3 toppings of your choice. House Salad   [S$10] is perfect for cleansing your palate in between bites of okonomiyaki pancake. You can even add pork belly for S$3.50. Potato Cheese Mentai   [S$14] is cheesy, creamy and has a great umami flavor. Potato slices are baked with cheese and creamy mentaiko sauce. Camille - Elegant Western Restaurant in Sentosa

My friend treated me to a meal at Camille, the restaurant he kept telling me about. If you are coming by public transport, take the Sentosa Express tram from VivoCity and get down at Imbiah station. Walk along the elevated floorboards and you will see a small staircase leading up to the bungalow that houses Wildseed and Camille. Wildseed Cafe is on the ground floor with alfresco garden tables while Camille is on the second floor. Camille is a dreamy restaurant with cream-white walls and petal-shaped lights. It is the perfect place if you are looking to impress a date or pamper your partner. We ordered the 4-Course Tasting Menu at S$85++ per person. Camille Bread Service I am absolutely in love with the bread. The kombu parker rolls are still warm to the touch and come with two types of butter, which are equally delicious. First Course Heirloom Tomatoes   is a great-tasting light cold appetizer where tomatoes are paired with goat cheese croquettes, shiso sorbet and hojicha tomato co...

Shabu Sai (Causeway Point) - Value-for-Money Shabu Shabu

I met up with a girlfriend whom I have not seen in a long while and she wanted to have steamboat or hotpot. We walked around Causeway Point and chanced upon Shabu Sai which offers Regular Buffet [Adult S$18.99, Child S$11.99] and Wagyu Beef Buffet [Adult S$39.99, Child S$17.99]. The price looks reasonable, so we went for the Regular Buffet. Here are the condiments where you can make your condiment masterpiece. My favorite non-spicy dipping sauce is dashi soy sauce + ponzu sauce + garlic + sesame paste which makes everything tastes better. Regular Buffet gives you unlimited pork belly, pork collar, chicken and beef. My favorite is the beef which has nice marbling to give the meat its tender texture when cooked. There are 20+ hotpot ingredients and vegetables. Even though there isn’t as much variety as other restaurants, all the ingredients are fresh. Shabu Sai (Causeway Point) Address: 1 Woodlands Square, Causeway Point #05-14/15, Singapore 738099 Telephone: 64621557 Opening Hours...

JUNRYO - Quality Handmade Sushi from S$1 Onwards

I recently saw a video on TikTok talking about a Japanese restaurant that sells handmade sushi starting from S$1. I thought it's too good to be true so I decided to visit JUNRYO and find out for myself. JUNRYO is a tiny Japanese restaurant in Orchard Plaza. It's a little challenging to find the place, just keep a lookout for this red wall with wooden door and half-circular window. Inside, there are only 8 counter seats so you can see your sushi being prepared. There are only 2 people in the restaurant, Chef Samuel Lau and a Filipino staff. JUNRYO offers 40 handmade sushi with prices ranging from S$1 to S$10 a piece. Each piece of sushi is handmade by Chef Samuel Lau right in front of you, with premium ingredients flown in from Japan. Even for the S$1 sushi such as   Tamago   [S$1], care is put into every detail. My favourite is   Hotate   [S$4] where the sweetness of the scallop tells me how fresh it is.   Kanapachi   [S$4] and   Chutoro   [S$6] a...
