PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King (Paya Lebar Square)

As a Keisuke VIP card holder, I received an invitation to a food tasting session at Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King's new outlet at Paya Lebar Square. Although I am invited as a VIP card holder instead of food blogger Hungry Ghost, I am still very honoured to be one of the first people to try the food. This is my first invitation to do food tasting, I am so excited!     Located just a few steps away from the main entrance, you cannot miss Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King.     The shop is decorated with old Japanese posters and comics. Wooden furnishings give the shop a rustic yet cosy feel.     As a VIP card holder, I received this cute pin as a token. Isn't it cute?       This is the order form, in English and Japanese. This is literally a combination of   Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King   and   Gyoza King . You can now have your favourite ramen and gyoza at the same time, how cool is that!     I have always been very curious how...

RamenPlay (Suntec City)

RamenPlay is a collaboration between Singapore's BreadTalk Group Limited and Sanpou Company.    I have to confess that I used to be prejudiced against RamenPlay because RamenPlay is all about creativity and "playing" with ramen whereas I believe that ramen should be done the traditional way to bring out the beautiful flavour it's meant to have.    However, I should at least give it a try and give it the benefit of doubt before I condemn it.     Hiyashi Chuka Ramen has ham, egg, cucumber, cha shu,  corn, lettuce, ramen and flavoured with Japanese vinaigrette and sesame sauce. This is a cold and healthy ramen that is perfect for the sweltering Singapore weather.       Sanpou Ramen is one of the signature ramen of RamenPlay which contains the "three treasures" of toroniku (braised pork cheek), cha shu (braised pork belly in char siew sauce) and buta kakuni (braised pork belly in special sauce). The noodle used are yellow noodles, very much ...

Guksu Noodle House - Handmade Korean Noodles

Guksu is a new Korean homemade noodle restaurant that opened its first Singapore outlet in Suntec City less than a month ago. "Guksu" is the collective term for noodles or noodle dishes in Korean. There is no shortage of Korean restaurants in Singapore but most of them do not offer many choices in terms of noodles. I believe Guksu is one of the first restaurant to focus on Korean noodles.         There are three types of noodles to choose from: So Meon, Jung Meon and Kal Guksu, defined by the thickness of the noodles.         There are three soup bases to choose from: Sae Woo (prawn), Jo Gae (clam) and Yuk Gae (beef) and then there is Bibim (dry).       The set meal is more value for money with main, side dish and Korean corn tea (hot/cold).     I ordered Doenjang Beef Guksu as a set.      Doenjang Beef Guksu is made of bean paste beef broth, sliced fresh wagyu beef, boiled egg, bracken, taro stem, whit...

Honeymoon Dessert

Honeymoon Dessert originated in Hong Kong and it has expanded to more than 300 outlets in Hong Kong, mainland China and Southeast Asia countries such as Singapore and Indonesia.          Double Boiled Milk is a popular Cantonese dessert, which literally means "double skin milk". It tastes very similar to the Italian dessert Panna Cotta, but it is not as dense. It is smooth and silky and full of the lovely milky taste that I love so much. I could have this all day, every day.     Glutinous Rice Ball in Sesame Paste can only be described as "slightly above average".  I got glutinous rice balls with peanut filling which happens to be my favourite type, but there is nothing special about the glutinous rice balls. They taste the same as the ones from supermarket, I highly doubt they are handmade. The sesame paste is definitely not hand-grinded and it is not fragrant enough.     Mango Pudding is pretty with the restaurant's name stamped on the...

Turkish Kebab House

I was running an errand in Suntec City when I chanced upon this little restaurant called Turkish Kebab House.     Chicken With Rice is as the name suggests, is fragrant pilaf (which rice cooked in seasoned broth) with pieces of chicken cooked on vertical rotisserie and pickles.     Lamb Pide is a type of Turkish flatbread that is is loaded with minced lamb and topped with cheese, which is then put into the oven to bake. It is served piping hot and every mouthful leaves you craving for more.   The food at here are rather expensive, but if you are sick of the usual cuisines in Singapore and you want to try something a little more exotic, you should definitely give Turkish Kebab House a try. Turkish Kebab House Address: 3 Temasek Boulevard, Suntec City #01-410F Opening Hours: Daily 11am - 9.30pm

Prata Planet

Prata Planet was highly recommended by my friend, so I decided to try out the restaurant with Carmen. Hidden within HDB blocks in Clementi, this prata place is of convenience to satisfy prata cravings of residents living in the area.       Bandung for Carmen, Milo Dinosaur for me.     Carmen decided to have the classic Egg Prata. I tried a bit of it and it tasted normal.      I decided to try something different, so I ordered Italian Prata. This is literally the Indian version of pizza! Filled with mushroom, onions, egg and many other ingredients, this prata is very filling and delicious. The portion is much bigger than regular prata, so it is ideal for sharing.     I decided to have Ice-Cream Prata for dessert. It looks pretty but messy to eat. It is just paper prata with scoops of ice-cream, drizzled with chocolate and strawberry syrup. Children will love this.      I got to try all the three curries - chicken, fish...

Seoul Yummy (Bugis +)

I was in Bugis+ and I got hungry, so I decided to look for a place to have a good meal. I went up to the 4th floor where all the restaurants are and decided to have my dinner at Seoul Yummy since I have not had it for many years.     I have always like the Korean utensils because they are slim and pretty, but the thin stainless steel chopsticks can get rather heavy and difficult to grip after a while.     Every main course comes with these 6 appetising side dishes.      I ordered Grilled Eel Hot Stone Bibimbab because the picture looked so tempting on the menu, but I was a little disappointed that the grilled eel pieces are rather small and they look so out of proportion on the bed of vegetables and rest. Everything is fresh and taste pretty good.     I had Patjook (Hot) + Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream for dessert which is essentially Korean Sweet Red Bean Soup. In Korean,   jook  (normally written as   juk ) means porridge or con...
