黑丸嫩仙草 BlackBall (Bugis +)

黑丸嫩仙草(BlackBall in English) originated from Guan Xi and it was founded by Mr. Tang, a tour guide, in 2006.  With 8 outlets stationed all around Singapore, it's almost impossible not to know of BlackBall's existence, but I brushed it aside as "just another Taiwan dessert" until my cousins recommended it to me.           You can order the BlackBall Signature Dessert and fro the Dessert Series, or you can Personalise Your Dessert. I got the  menu  from their  website .          I had the BackBall Signature Dessert (Cold). Their speciality grass jelly is delicately soft and and slightly chewy. Taro Ball, Sweet Potato Ball, Yam Q, Golden Sweet Potato, Red Beans and Pearls are not too sweet and compliments the grass jelly well. Add the provided creamer for a milkier taste.   It may be a little pricey for a dessert, but it is well worth the price. With 8 outlets at various shopping malls around Singapore, you don't have...

Ramen Champion (Bugis +)

Located at the top floor of Bugis +, Ramen Champion houses 6 ramen heavyweights, each serving different types of ramen in different presentations. Shodai Koji, Menya Ryu, Riki, Kazuo Yamagishi, Buta God and Mendokoro Aoi.      Bario's signature ramen is Ajitama Ramen. Thick and flavourful broth is complimented by thick and flat yellow noodles, copious amount of crunchy bean sprouts and cabbage, runny flavoured egg, and three pieces of thick chashu. Sadly, Bario is no longer with Ramen Champion.     Tonkotsu Itto's Special Tonkotsu Ramen is done Hakata-style, which is considered as one of Japan's top three styles of ramen (the other two are Tokyo and Sapporo). Hakata ramen uses noodles that are white and straight and firm in texture. Chopped kikurage (wood-ear mushroom), flavoured egg, chashu and negi (green onions) compliments the ramen. Sadly, Tonkotsu Itto is no longer with Ramen Champion.         Menya Ryu's Sapporo Special Miso Ramen reta...

Tom's Palette

Contrary to believe, Tom's Palette was founded by couple Chronos Chan and Eunice Soon. Chronos had a polytechnic friend named Tom, who did not believe that a ice-cream shop can survive in Singapore. Chronos named the shop Tom's Palette to remind himself of what his friend said.     Tom's Palette has been creating and serving homemade ice-cream since 2005. This shop specialises in creating unique ice-cream flavours using ingredients you would never imagine. There is ice-cream made of popping candy (Melt 'n' Sizzle), coconut (Salted Coconut) and floral tea (Lavender). You can find a list of some of the popular flavours   here .      At Tom's Palette, you can have your ice-cream in a variety of ways.     Tables are decorated with drawings and photos of happy customers, giving the place a relaxing and playful vibe.      I ordered Waffles with 2 of their most popular ice-cream flavours, Grandma's Favourite and Salted Egg Yolk. The B...

Teppei Syokudo (Millenia Walk)

Teppei Syokudo has recently opened a new outlet at Millenia Walk. This is chef Yamashita Teppei's second takeaway outlet and fifth local establishment. The first Teppei Syokudo at Takashimaya has received many positive feedback.     The menu features many of Teppei Syokudo's popular dishes.     Assorted fried snacks such as korokke are also available.     These are Hokkaido Cheese and Hokkaido Potato.      Teppei Syoduko's singature bara chirashi bowl is called Kaisendon. Grainy sushi rice topped with plump and fresh chunks of salmon, tuna and white fish marinated in Teppei Syoduko's special housemade sauce.      Tori Karaage Bento features deep-fried chicken pieces accompanied by kinpira gobo, flavored seaweed, mustard takana,  and kyuri asazuke (pickled cucumber).     Seats are limited, it can get a little crowded during lunch hour.   The high quality and authenticity of food justifies the slightly-high pr...

House of Steamboat - Never Ever Again

My colleagues and I wanted to have some colleague-bonding time over dinner and we decided to have steamboat. They wanted a central location, so I suggested House of Steamboat. I had it once with my friends and it was not a total disappointment, and it happened to be one of the cheapest steamboat I could find within the vicinity.      This is the menu where you can choose the soup bases and order seafood and meats.      Complimentary Snacks include fried buns, fried crabs and fried chicken wings. All the items are so charred, it is difficult to differentiate one from another. The fried buns are about the only thing edible, fried crabs and fried chicken wings are dry and tasteless.     Stoves include a grill plate on the left and steamboat stove on the right. The grill plate looks dirty, and it has already been changed once.     You can choose up to two soup bases. The website boasts that no monosodium glutamate (MSG) is used, I don't know ...
