Saravanaa Bhavan (Suntec City)

Saravanaa Bhavan is a chain of restaurant serving Indian vegetarian cuisine. With branches all over the world and 7 outlets in Singapore alone, I am surprised I have not heard of them sooner.       Wikipedia defines Tiffin as "an English slang for second breakfast or lunch, sometimes applied to any light meal".I believe Mini Tiffinis like the Indian equivalent of English high tea.      North Indian Set    At Saravanaa Bhavan, you can have a taste of authentic North Indian cuisine in the comfort of an air-conditioned restaurant.    Changi Business Park Address: 1 Changi Business Park Crescent #01- 18 Telephone:67867573  Jurong Address: West Gate 3 Gateway Drive, Food Republic #B1-25 Raffles Place Address: Clifford centre, NTUC FoodFare B1 Stall 5 Suntec City Address: 3 Temasak Boulevard, Suntec City Mall  #B-1-115/120 Telephone : 68848816 Syed Alwi Road Address: 84 Syed Alwi Road Telephone: 62977755 Tanjong Pager Address: 8 Shen...

Din Tai Fung (Suntec City)

Din Tai Fung originated in Taiwan and BreadTalk Group brought it to Singapore in 2013. O ne Michelin Star restaurant and ranked as one of the world’s Top Ten Best Restaurants by The New York Times, this celebrated restaurant is famous for its Xiao Long Baos (Steamed Pork Dumplings), and Steamed Chicken Soup. With roots dating back to Taiwan more than 30 years ago, the internationally renowned restaurant makes waves with branches in Singapore, Thailand, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and USA.      I am impressed that the ginger is sliced so thinly. Small things like this says a lot about a restaurant. This shows that the chef (or whoever cuts the ginger) has good fundamental skills which boosts my confidence about the food. This also shows that the restaurants cares by ensuring the quality of even the sauces.      Oriental Salad in Special Vinegar Dressing 小菜 is an Chinese appetizer made of sliced tofu, rice vermicelli ...

The Bistro @ NUSS Guild House (Suntec City)

There are altogether three NUSS Guild Houses and the branch at Suntec City is the newest outlet. The Bistro is the main dining area.     I am surprised that black napkin is used instead of the white/cream, but I like the uniqueness.       I was a little apprehensive about Wasabi Prawns but I am not a fan of wasabi, but thank goodness the wasabi mayonnaise and mayonnaise sauces are served separately. The prawns are coated in batter and fried till crisply yet soft. There is just a hint of wasabi in the wasabi maynnaise sauce.     Seafood Horfun is highly recommended by my colleagues so I decided to give it a try. Prawns, squid, mushrooms, fish and vegetables accompany soft kway teow. The portion is huge and everything is very fresh.     Apple Crumble with Salted Caramel Ice Cream sounded delicious but I was a little disappointed with the apple crumble, but the salted caramel ice-cream was to die for. Addresses and opening hours of all three out...

Toast Box (Suntec City)

Part of BreadTalk Group Limited, what started out as a food stall in Food Republic at Wisma Atria has quickly expanded into a chain restaurant with 69 outlets located all over Singapore. Toast Box has been serving traditional local fare since 2006.   I am not joking when I say that Toast Box's Curry Chicken With Rice is one of the best I have had so far. The curry is thick yet not overly spicy. Dried tofu and generous chunks of potatoes are cooked together with pieces of fall-off-the bone tender chicken pieces. There is a slight hint of sweetness in the potatoes, thanks to having been cooked in curry for many hours.     Laksa is one of Singapore's iconic foods and Toast Box does a pretty decent job. Dried tofu, sliced fish cake, prawns and half a hard-boiled egg accompany thick bee hoon and thick curry.      Steamed Thick Toast is one of the newer item to appear on Toast Box's menu and it reminds me of the childhood comfort food. This is excellent as a dess...

llaollao

My colleague, Jamie, is amazed at the never-ending queue outside llallao's 313@Somerset outlet, so she asked me to try it out for her. llaollao has 11 outlets in Singapore and thankfully there is an outlet near my workplace so I don't have to go all the way to 313@Somerset for a cup of yogurt, no matter how heavenly it may taste.          An impressive array of fresh fruits, toppings and sauces.      I ordered Sanum which includes frozen yogurt, 3 types of fresh fruits, your choice of crunch and your choice of sauce. It looks pretty but the way it is made makes it hard to get to the fruits. The frozen yogurt is just a little too sour that it covers the sweetness of the fruits.   All in all, llaollao is a healthy dessert but not worth the hype or the queue.   Addresses of all 11 llaollao outlets can be found   here .

Olive Vine

Located at the basement of Marina Square along the Marina Link is a cosy little restaurant called Olive Vine. Doctor Chong and my colleagues have lunch there regularly and they are full of praises. I decided to check it out for myself.     Olive Vine offers value-for-money Deluxe Set Meal and Executive Set Menu.     Everything is very neat and tidy at Olive Vine. After the recent rodent infestation at Hotpot Culture, Grade A from NEA assures the cleanliness of the food.    I really wanted to try the beef stew that Doctor Chong was raving about, which was in the Deluxe Set Menu, but I also wanted to try the carrot cake. The staff was very kind to let me top up $3 for the Executive Set Meal, so I got to have the best of both worlds.     Mushroom Soup tastes like watered down version of Campbell soup. You can't really expect too much from a set meal.     Beef Stew (with choice of rice or bread) is surprisingly delicious. Chunks of tender be...

Lao Beijing (Velocity)

A chain of restaurants under TungLok Group, Lao Beijing has been serving authentic Northern Chinese cuisine for many years.       Beijing-Style Braised Noodle is made with handmade noodles, one of the staple foods in Northern Chinese cuisine to combat the cold harsh winters.     Lao Beijing's Braised Beef Brisket Noodle is a noodle dish commonly found in Northern Chinese cuisine.          Braised Pork Ribs with Wild Mushroom Noodle is a homely dish that is simple and healthy.     Braised Beancurd with Sliced Fish In Claypot tastes so good. The thick fish slices are coated with corn starch, so the fish are smooth and goes well with the humble beancurd.     Spicy Beancurd Skin with Peppercorns is a traditional Northern Chinese side dish that is healthy and gives a kick in the taste buds with the fiery peppercorns.     Steamed Vegetable Dumplings is a healthier option as compared to the traditional steamed dump...
