Old Street Bak Kut Teh (Plaza Singapura)

I am not exactly a fan of bak kut teh although I have had my fair share because I find it too meaty and oily for my liking. I still have trouble getting used to the soap where pepper is about the only thing I can taste.    My colleague was going on and on about this new bak kut teh place called Old Street Bak Kut Teh and I have seen it being advertised on the television a couple of times, so my colleagues and I decided to give it a try.           I would suggest that you go for   Premium Loin Ribs   instead of the classic Pork Ribs Soup because the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender. The soup is not as peppery and there is minimal oil which makes it a little healthier. If you want something special, try Dry Bak Kut Teh which brings out the uniqueness of Old Street.     My colleague commented that their   You Tiao   is the best she has had so far.      Braised Pig's Intestines   is surprisingly not oi...

Hotpot Culture

I have passed by Hotpot Culture a couple of times before but this steamboat restaurant has never quite caught my attention until the rat infestation incident.        Hotpot Set for 1   is reasonably-priced at $8.80. You can choose  chicken/beef/seafood/pork  platter. There are 7 soups to choose from: chicken/tom yum/fish/kimchi/vegetarian/herbal/ma la. I opted for beef platter with fish soup. The vegetables are fresh and the meat are hand-cut, judging from the uninformed thickness. The meat are too thick although fresh, the rice is hard and dry and the salad is barely edible.    The low price will probably entice people, but the poor quality of food will keep people from returning. I would have rather spent a little bit more money to have a hotpot that will leave me satisfied.   Hotpot Culture Address: 6 Raffles Boulevard, Marina Square #04-102A Telephone:   63339844 Opening Hours: Monday - Thursday 12pm - 10pm; Friday - Sunday and ...

The Burger Bar (Marina Square) - We Are Here Again!

After my first visit to   The Burger Bar , I have fallen in love with the modern burger place, so here I am again.       This time, I ordered the   Bacon Cheese Fries . The cheese is gooey and smooth, but the bacon bits are too salty.      If Bacon Cheese Fries is not your thing, you can always have the classic   Cheese Fries  hot and gooey cheese is poured over crispy fries. It is simple yet utterly addictive.       TBB Swiss Shroom   is the most popular item on the menu. A piece of thick and succulent beef patty, lettuce, tomato and mushrooms are sandwiched between two fluffy buns. It is a huge burger which makes it all the more enjoyable.      The Burger Bar is so far the only burger place I know that serves actually serves lamb. You will have to build your own burger because there isn't a ready-to-go option on the menu. For those of you who are unfamiliar with lamb, I assure you that there is no str...

Marche Movenpick (Suntec City) - Simple Lunch

Although the newly-revamped Suntec City boasts more than 80 dining establishments, it can still get boring after a while.    Let me show you how you can have a perfectly delicious meal in Suntec City for under $20.     Opt for one of the sandwiches displayed at the counter such as this   Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwich . Huge chucks of creamy chicken and green lettuce are samdwiched between two pieces of fluffy focaccia bread that are freshly-baked everyday. It's really as if you are having a chicken caesar salad, sandwich-style!      End your meal with this perfect piece of   Strawberry Shortcake . Instead of the usual sponge cake, smooth and creamy custard is used instead. Pieces of fresh strawberries at the bottom adds a little tanginess. It is perfection in every bite.    A set like this comes with a cup of freshly-made orange juice or watermelon juice. There you have it, a healthy meal (opt out of the Strawberry Shortcake if you ...

Hatched (Holland Village)

I have heard so much about Hatched, it feels as if I know the place already before I have even visited the famed restaurant.    The name says it all, Hatched is a restaurant that serves all-day breakfast centered around the theme of eggs.      I love the ingenious use of elevated wooden flooring and panel of potted plants to create an isolated sanctuary.     The cartoonish menu is child-friendly and invoke many fond childhood memories.      This is the first time I have come across   Rose Latte   and I am intrigued. The richness of coffee combined with a slight hint of rose fragrance, this is the drink to have when you want to curl up with a good book for a lazy afternoon, or even as a perk-me-up because not only is the drink delicious, the latte art is pleasing to the eye too.      Sleepover Hatched Special   is the embodiment of sweet and salty perfection. Grilled bananas and streaky bacon are sandwiched b...

Menya Musashi (Raffles City)

My colleague kept telling me that "the ramen restaurant next to the taxi stand" serves very good ramen, it got me curious so I goggled and found out that it is called Menya Musashi. I wanted to know if it is really as good as my colleague makes it out to be, so when my colleague suggested that we have lunch there one day, I jumped at the opportunity.        Menya Musashi is having a Lunch Special promotion on weekdays 11.30am - 3pm (excluding public holidays and eve of public holidays). It includes a White/Black/Red Cha Shu Ramen and one of the eight side dishes.        I had such high hopes for Menya Musashi's signature tonkotsu ramen, White Cha Shu Ramen, but I was greatly disappointed. The broth is rather thin and watered-down, unlikely the thick and creamy broth of   Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King . The cha shu is leathery and dry, probably due to prolonged exposure.      Deep Fried Gyoza is  overly oily and w...

Lam's Signatures (Marina Square)

I learned from my colleague that Lam's Signatures had very humble beginnings. Lam's Abalone Noodles was opened by a man called Ah Lam in the 1950's selling mini wok noodles with various other zi char dishes in a small coffee shop. Over the years, it has grown in popularity and now has three outlets in Singapore.    A friend used to drive me into Johor Bahru regularly just for abalone noodles. I wonder how does Lam's Abalone Noodles compare to the authentic abalone noodles in Johor Bahru? Well, let's find out!       They have Combo Meals which I think are rather value-for-money.      I ordered Combo Meal G2 which consists of Abalone Noodle, Stuffed Meatball and a soft drink.        I personally feel that the best part of the Abalone Noodles is actually the soft boiled egg. It reminds me of the Japanese favored egg with a delicious runny centre. The noodles are springy and full of bite and tastes pretty nice when mixed with the s...

Everything With Fries (Bugis Junction)

Everything With Fries started off in 2010 with its first outlet in Holland Village, delighting patrons with freshly-baked breads, fresh meats and handmade sauces. Its dedication to serving delicious foods paid of and they have opened up two more outlets.   Situated right besides the cinema on the 4th floor of Bugis Junction, it it impossible to miss Everything With Fries (EWF for short). I have passed it on numerous occasions but I have never had the chance to stop and try their food, until today.      Opt for a table in front of the windows where the natural lighting makes it perfect for taking photographs and you get a panorama view of the fountain below.      This outlet does not seem to have the speciality dish One Egg Soup.     I saw this poster when I was ordering so I topped up $1 to change my fries to truffle fries.      You can get all your cutleries and condiments at this cupboard.        This burg...

Assembly Coffee

Assembly Coffee is part of the third wave coffee movement and it has been around for more than a year now. It has becomes hugely popular for their  buttermilk waffles which are supposed to be one of the best waffles in Singapore and their speciality coffee.   Assembly Coffee is part of the third wave coffee movement and it has been around for more than a year now. It has becomes hugely popular for their buttermilk waffles which are supposed to be one of the best waffles in Singapore and their speciality coffee.     It is easy to miss this tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant but the navy blue and white stripped canopy might make it slightly easier to spot.     It is a tiny cafe but the simplistic interior design make the place feel cosy and comfortable. Service is fast and efficient and all the staff goes about doing their job with a bounce in their steps and engergy that will brighten up any customer's mood.         Desserts are freshly-mad...
