Daikokuya Ramen Dining

Located at besides Din Tai Fung in the basement of Raffles City Shopping Mall, Daikokuya Ramen Dining is a small ramen restaurant that specializes in miso ramen which originated from Sapporo, capital of Hokkaido.          Daikokuya's   Signature Sapporo Roasted Miso   is loaded with two halves of flavored egg, bean spouts, seasoned bamboo shoots, three pieces of kurobuta (black pork) chashu (which is known for its tenderness and unique flavor) and topped with green onions. The flavorful broth is made by boiling soy sauce and pork bones for almost a day, the addition of soy sauce makes the broth lighter than traditional tonkotsu broth.      Umatoro soft and juicy Chashu   comes with the  Signature Sapporo Roasted Miso set. Fragrant Japanese rice is topped with stir-fried korobuta (black pork). It is so simple yet so delicious.    If you are looking for a place to have a bowl of good ramen the next time you are i...

Penang Street (Funan DigitaLife Mall)

It was announced in   The Straits Times   that Funan DigitaLife Mall will be closed in the third quarter of 2016 so my doctors to decided to bring us to try a restaurant that is supposed to serve some very good Penang food. I was curious about the name of this Penang restaurant so I googled and found out that it is actually Penang Street. I have been to the outlet at   NUH Medical Center   and I can attest to the quality and authenticity of the food.     My colleagues are absolutely in love with the Peranakan design of the restaurant which brings about a sense of nostalgia.      The   Honey Chicken Wings   are very well-marinated, the only thing is that the chicken wings are rather small and the meat are somewhat shriveled. Other than that, it is perfect as an appetizer.     Chicken Satay   is really good! The chicken pieces has been very well-marinated and grilled to perfection. They taste exceedingly we...

Tsujiri

Tsujiri was established in 1860 in Kyoto, Japan. T he founder Riemon  wanted to improve the tea industry. Armed with 150 years of heritage and dedication to using only matcha made from the finest Gyokuro tea leaves, Tsujiri is ready to take Singapore by storm.     Interior design and lighting at all Tsuriji outlets are taken care by Shozo Toyohisa, which explains the welcoming feel of the place.      There are o-maccha, tea, latte, ice blended, float, sweet, soft ice cream, parfait and shaved ice. It's amazing how many tasty treats the humble maccha can be made into!      This is   O-maccha Float (Vanilla)   where vanilla soft serve ice-cream sits on top of a cup of ice-blended maccha. I enjoy the smoothness of the soft-serve ice-cream but I do feel that it is a little   too   soft, or maybe it is just testiment to Singapore's humid weather. I like that the maccha is not too bitter, but some may feel that it's too sweet....

Cafe Iguana - Cool Mexican Restaurant at Clark Quay

Cafe Iguana was founded in 2000 by two Americans, Devin Otto Kimble and Chilean Daniel Flores who felt that Singapore need a good Mexican restaurant. Cafe Iguana is run by the same people behind Brewerkz.  I was on my way to attend a talk at Riverside Point and I wanted to have dinner first because the talk was scheduled to end at 10pm, which is much too late for dinner.    Located along the Singapore River, Cafe Iguana is an assembly of colorful chairs, olive green tables and a fully-stocked bar counter.        I have managed to take pictures of the menu, but you   can also find the menu on their   website .         The  Quesadillas ,  although a little expensive, are very well-done. The original quesadilla only comes with cheese, but I topped-up for additional chicken, and boy did I do the right thing. The tender chicken pieces are held together by melted cheese, enveloped in flour tortilla that has been cooked...

Outback Steakhouse (Millenia Walk)'s 1-for-1 Lunch Special

Outback Steakhouse is an Australian-inspired steakhouse chain with outlets in many countries. Besides serving steaks, there is also a good selection of chicken, ribs, seafood and pasta options that is wallet-friendly.   I have been to Outback Steakhouse a few times before and I have been impressed with the quality of the food so far, I was delighted when I learnt about the 1-for-1 lunch promotion. Let's go and check out this fabulous deal!             I have been to Outback Steakhouse a couple of times and the breadboard never fails to impress me. The soft wheat bread is aromatic and warm to the touch, and it tastes heavenly with the butter that Outback Steakhouse churn themselves. I wanted to buy a bottle of that luxurious butter but I was told that it is not available for sale.       Soup of the Day was Mushroom Soup. It tastes like Campbell Soup, only saltier. I almost gagged trying to force that down my throat.       E...

ComNam Vietnamese Street Eats

If you have ever been to the basement of Raffles City, you will know that it is a food paradise with restaurants catering to every cuisine and taste.    Today we are going to try out ComNam Vietnamese Street Eats, the younger sibling of popular Vietnamese chain NamNam Noodle Bar. ComNam offers diverse Vietnamese dishes from different parts of Vietnam, served with a modern touch.              ComNam calls their side dishes Small Plates. Sriracha is a type of hot sauce that is very common in Vietnamese cuisine. Adding sriracha to the mayonnaise in  Crispy Wontons with Sriracha Mayonnaise  gives the otherwise oily and boring side dish an extra kick.        Fish Noodle Soup 's broth is not as flavorful as   NamNam Noodle Bar's Pho Beef Noodle   although it is just as clear. The pieces of fish and prawn that comes with the clear broth and flat vermicelli noodles. You will be surprised at how much spiciness t...

Osaka Ohsho (Raffles City)

Osaka Ohsho was first established in 1969 as a gyoza specialist. Since then, the menu has evolved to include many Japanese-Chinese dishes that has won over the hearts of many.   Sadly, Osaka Ohsho has not managed to impress me on the few times I have patronized, let's hope it's different this time.        Fried Chicken Toji Set   includes a plate of lukewarm Fried Chicken Toji which is basically fried chicken cutlet with egg, a bowl of Japanese rice, a bowl of soup and three pieces of gyoza as side dish.      Nothing spectacular about the Fried Chicken Toji Set except that it rather salty .      For a restaurant that started out as a gyoza specialist, the gyoza here are served as a side rather than as the main course, but I understood why the moment I picked up one of the gyoza. The gyoza looks very dry, good gyoza should be enveloped in a thin layer of oil from being freshly fried upon order. Osaka Ohsho's gyoza looks like it ...
