Honolulu Cafe (Westgate)

Honolulu egg tarts have been voted as one of Hong Kong's best egg tarts by locals and tourists alike, but I was not very impressed with the egg tart I had at Honolulu Cafe (Centerpoint Mall).      Honolulu Cafe has opened a new outlet at Westgate to cater to the people living in the West. I decided to give it another shot and give it the benefit of doubt.      Besides egg tarts, Honolulu Cafe also serves many Hong Kong cha chaan teng foods, categorised into Baked Goods, Toasts, Snacks, Sandwiches, Instant Noodles, Main Courses and Curry Specials. There are also Breakfast Sets.      Curry Rice (Pork Chop/Chicken/Fish Fillet/Beef Brisket/Luncheon Meat/Egg and Sausage) [$8.50] is a Hong Kong speciality that is not as well-known. I opted for the beef brisket, which turned out to be as tough as leather. The curry itself is very authentic, but it is a little too oily for me.      Curry Fish Ball   [$3 for 5 Pieces]...

Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle - Michelin 1 Star Soya Sauce Chicken Rice

After having tried Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle who has recently won one Michelin star in the Michelin Guide Singapore and found that it does live up to its name, I decided to give the other Michelin star hawker stall, Liao Fan Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle, a try.      Liao Fan Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle has become so popular after it was awarded one Michelin star, it has opened a restaurant on Smith Street to accommodate a large number of patrons.     Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle specializes in Hong Kong roasted meats such a char siew roasted pork but soya sauce chicken is their speciality.      I ordered a plate of their signature   Soya Sauce Chicken Rice   with an additional order of   Char Siew and   Roasted Pork . Sadly, I don't taste anything special about their soya sauce chicken which is tender. However, the Roasted Pork and Char Siew was another story altog...

Koki Tamagoyaki - Japanese Egg Omelette and Choux Puffs at Raffles City Basement

The basement of Raffles City Shopping Centre is a food haven with many interesting restaurants such as WHEAT, Tokyo Sundubu, Andong Zzimdak, PODI and Daikokuya Ramen Dining.    I have recently discovered a few new stalls and one of them is Koki Tamagoyaki. As the name implies, Koki Tamogoyaki specialists in tamagoyaki, a popular Japanese snack that is made by rolling together layers of cooked egg in a rectangular omelette pan called makiyakinabe. It sounds simple enough, but the proper technique in controlling the pan and flipping the eggs take years to practice.     In Singapore, Tamagoyaki is usually served in the form of nigiri and sushi rolls, I was delighted to learn that Koki Tamogoyaki serves daishimaki tamago, one of the hardest variation of tamagoyaki. Daishimaki Tamago is made using eggs, dashi, mirin and shoyu (Japanese soy sauce).      Koki Tamagoyaki offers their signature tamagoyaki as Ala Carte, Bento and Value Bento. Ala Carte of...

Settlers Cafe - The First Board Games Cafe in Singapore

Board games have become very popular in recent years and there are quite a few board game cafe in Singapore. I have seen many board game groups on Meetup and this app that I have been using recently called "Kakis" (previously known as "Lunch Kaki", Singapore slang for buddies). I have heard of The Mind Cafe and Play Nation and I just got to know another board games cafe called Settlers Cafe.      It turned out that Settlers' Cafe is actually the first board games cafe in Singapore that has been established since 2003. In fact, Settlers Cafe was nominated for Singapore's Outstanding Enterprise 2012 award, although I am not sure if they did clinch that award in the end.      Walk the Plank!, Schloss Schlotterstein (a German game) and Sushi Go Party! are just 3 of the 600+ board games available at Settlers Cafe. Settlers Cafe also offers detectable local and Western cuisine to satisfy your stomach as you play the board games.     Cajun Chicken...

Yoogane (Westgate) - Chicken Galbi, Army Stew and More

Ever since Yoogane opened its outlet at Westgate, it is packed every day. The queue gets especially crazy on weekends and public holidays where there will be at least 10 people in the queue. That piqued my curiosity. Is it really that good, that people will spend hours queuing? I decided to find out.       Established in 1981 in Busan, Yoogane prides itself as one of the most popular and best Chicken Galbi restaurant in Korea.      Judging from the wall of photographs of people who have dined at Yoogane, it is definitely very popular with the younger generation.      Beverages include Korean speciality drinks such as Demi-Soda (Grape/Orange/Lemon/Apple), Hot Tea (Brown Rice Green Tea/Barly Tea/Citron Tea), Alcohol (Hite Beer/Cass Beer/Korean Rice Wine/Chamisul Soju/Yakult Soju/Yuka Soju) and Cold Tea (Iced Citron Tea/Iced Brown Rice Green Tea/Iced Barley Tea). Of course, there are also Soft Drinks such as Pepsi, Pepsi Light, Mug...

Tokyo Chopped Salad (Millenia Walk) - First Japanese Chopped Salad Brand in Singapore

Tokyo Chopped Salad at Millenia Walk is the first Japanese chopped salad brand store in Singapore. The unique Japanese-inspired dressings used in Tokyo Chopped Salads are specially crafted by award-winning chef Teppei Yamashita, who is also behind Teppei Japanese Restaurant, Teppei Syokudo and Man Man Unagi Restaurant.    As the name suggests, the salads at Tokyo Chopped Salad are all chopped up before being served in a plastic bowl and you only have to eat with a spoon, which makes consumption much easier and a lot less messy.            You can either choose one of the signature salads or create your own salad masterpiece by choosing the base, a protein, 4 toppings and dressing crafted by chef Teppei Yamashita.      Besides regularly canned drinks and mineral water, Tokyo Chopped Salad also sells Healthy Fruit Infused Water. This one I have here is called   Power Pack   [$3], fruit infused water of strawber...
