Shabu Sai (Suntec City) Again - Affordable Japanese Hotpot Buffet

I had such a good time at   Shabu Sai (Suntec City)   2 years ago, I have been wanting to go there again. My colleagues wanted to celebrate my birthday with me and I recommended Shabu Sai, so here we are again. Shabu Sai offers 2 types of buffet for weekday dinner - Regular Buffet [$22.99++] and Wagyu Beef Buffet [$36.99++].  There are 6 soup bases to choose from: Seaweed, Sukiyaki, Spicy, Tonkotsu, Tom Yam Miso and Yuzu Collagen.    You can choose 2 soup bases and we chose Tonkotsu and Sukiyaki. The Tonkotsu soup base is a rich and flavourful broth made from pork bones, ingredients cooked in it turn out really delicious. Sukiyaki is made form premium-grade Japanese soya sauce, but I personally find the broth too sweet.     There are 16 condiments to choose from. My combination of  Dashi Soy Sauce + Seasame Paste + Garlic is simple yet delicious, those who want something spicy can add in Chilli Oil or Chilli Padi.  The buffet ta...

Kogane Yama (JEM) - Customisable Tendon, Donburi and Matcha Latte

On my recent visit to JEM in Jurong East, I discovered that a few new restaurants have popped out of nowhere. One is Kogane Yama and the other is Nipong Naepong.    I have heard some really good reviews of Kogane Yama and I am going to try it out for myself.  Kogane Yama has a concise menu of only 4 types of Tendon Bowl and 4 donburi bowls. Kogane Yama specialises in   Tendon Bowl   and you can choose from Mixed Bowl [$15.80], Chicken Bowl [$13.80], Prawn Bowl [$13.80] or Vegetable Bowl [$11.80].   Mixed Bowl consists of shiitake mushrooms, long beans, prawns, sweet potato and chicken fillet. I find the tempura a little soggy, unlike   Tempura TENTEN's Special Tendon   which is served piping hot.    Top-up $2.50 for a set meal that includes chawanmushi/miso soup and a cup of hot/cold green tea.     Besides Tendon Bowl, Kogane Yama also serves 4 types of Japanese rice bowl known as donburi.  Chirashi Bowl   [$18...

Buffet Town International Buffet Restaurant

Eating is a national pastime in Singapore and buffets are extremely popular in Singapore because you get to try many different foods in one seating.   Buffet Town at the basement of Raffles City Shopping Centre is impossible to miss with its bright fluorescent sign, taking over space previously occupied by Shokudo Japanese Food Bazaar.           The first thing you see when you enter the restaurant are these towering glass tanks filled with seafood and ice. Seafood on Ice serves Crayfish, Black Mussels, Poached Prawns, Gong Gong (conch), Green Mussels, Live Oysters (available during weekday dinner, weekend lunch and dinner) and the small red crayfish that is hugely popular in China.    The oysters are miserably small and I would suggest skipping the small red crayfish altogether as the shrivelled meat is tasteless.    Besides the usual Tabasco sauce and lemon slices, there are various sauces such as balsamic vinegar and oni...
