Revisiting The Good Trio

There are numerous Chinese restaurants in Singapore but there are not many Chinese restaurants that specialize in Hokkien and Sichuan dishes. The Good Trio is one such restaurant with two outlets in JCube and Thomson Plaza. I can't comment on the authenticity of the Hokkien dishes but my mother who is a Hokkien, loves their Braised Nanping Noodle so that should be a good indicator.       Having had two pleasant dining experiences at The Good Trio (please read my reviews   here and   here ), we are back for the third time to sample a few other dishes.       Snow Peas in Ginger Sauce   [$5.90] is a fantastic appetiser that is both healthy and delicious. I don’t know how they do it to make the snow peas so green and crunchy, topped with minced ginger sauce. The ginger sauce gives the dish just enough heat, but it's not spicy.        Crispy Bread with Floss   [$7.90] is very similar to the Indian roti prata in Sing...

Kei Kaisondon - New Kaisendon Japanese Restaurant in Suntec City Mall

Among the various international cuisines available in Singapore, Japanese cuisine has been one of the more popular cuisines for many years. Japanese restaurants, in particularly Japanese restaurants that specializes in Japanese rice bowls, have been popping up all around Singapore.    Following its success at its Paya Lebar Square and Square 2 outlets, Kei Kaisendon has recently opened a new outlet at Suntec City Mall.       Pictures of the restaurant's signature kaisendon fill the walls of the restaurant, the white florescent lights and white walls make the small restaurant appear larger.       Kei Kaisendon offers 10 kaisendon bowls with various toppings and 12 add-on/side dishes to complete your meal.       Kei Signature Kaisen Don   [$12.90 for Small (90g), $16.90 for Regular (150g), $19.90 for Large (220g)] is the restaurant's premium all-in kaisendon. Thick slices of tuna, salmon, mackerel, yellowfin, scallop, squid and p...

Honguo (Raffles City Shopping Centre) - Yunnan Delicacy with More Than 100 Years of History

Located beside  Tempura TENTEN , you can’t miss 红锅HonGuo with its bright red and black signage. I have walked past this Chinese restaurant quite a few times but I have never wanted to try their food until I read the story behind their signature dish, Cross Bridge Vermicelli.          I like the spaciousness of the restaurant all decked out in red, white and black colors. The design and pictures of the restaurant reminds one of an old teahouse in Yunnan.                  Legend has it that more than 100 years ago, a scholar and his wife lived in Yunnan. The scholar decided to isolate himself on an island to study for the imperial examinations. His wife prepared his meals daily and took it to him by crossing a bridge. She discovered that the layer of oil on top of the broth kept the food hot. Cross Bridge Vermicelli was this born and Yunnan people has been eating this dish for more than 100 years....

Chef In Box - Vending Machine Enclave in Suntec City

Suntec City is home to a myriad of restaurants in every imaginable cuisine such as  Din Tai Fung  for the best xiao long bao,  Wonderful Bap Sang + Lee Mart Kitchen  for authentic Korea food, Nya Nya for Peranakan cuisine and  Shabu Sai  for value-for-money Japanese hotpot buffet, but these restaurants only open around 11am and close around 10pm.    What happens if you want to get something to outside of these hours? That's where Chef In Box comes in.     If you have recently been to level 3 of Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, you will see a cluster of vending machines called Chef In Box.       Chef In Box is a concept by JR Group that was established in 2001 with the vision of creating quality meals in a box for the convenience of all individuals.        Chef In Box serves cooked food, you can choose to have your food reheated before being dispensed to you. One su...

Donergy Turkish Kebab - Get Your Turkish Fix Here

Singapore is a melting pot of different cultures and you can find restaurants of many cuisines here. Besides the most common Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western restaurants, there are also a number of Italian, French, and Spanish restaurants, but there are not that many Turkish restaurants yet.    Today I am going to introduce you to a Turkish restaurant that I recently discovered in Millennia Walk called Donergy Turkish Kebab.         Donergy Turkish Kebab is a smallish restaurant in Millenia Walk sporting a bright red signboard which is impossible to miss.        The walls are decorated with enlarged pictures of famous landmarks in Turkey, such as the Sultan Ahmed (Blue Mosque) and Bosphorus Bridge. The pictures are so well-taken, they awake the travel   bug  in me every time I visit. One day I shall visit Turkey and have all the delicious Turkish food in Turkey itself.         The...
