Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant - Affordable Japanese Buffet in Orchard Central

Eating is a national pastime in Singapore, as you can tell from the ever-increasing number of restaurants sprouting up all over the island. We like all kind of cuisines, but nothing beats a good buffet where we can enjoy an unlimited flow of food for a fixed price.    Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant is one such buffet restaurant. Located on the 8th floor of Orchard Central, it offers more than 200 buffet items over 29 categories. Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant is part of Minor Food Group Singapore, just like   Buffet Town International Buffet Restaurant .    Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant’s pricing is fairly affordable, as listed below:   Lunch (11.30am - 3pm): Adult $22.80++; Child $12.80++ Dinner (6pm - 10pm): $33.80++; Child $15.80++   *Child refers to children of height 1.1 - 1.4m, children below 1.1m dine for free*     Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant is easily recognisable with its huge signage and the statue of a sumo wrestler...

Master Tang Wontan Mee (鄧師傅鳳城麺家)

I stumbled upon an article written about Master Tang (鄧師傅鳳城 éşş 家) and this Michelin one-starred stall was opened by a retired Crystal Jade chef, who has worked there for 17 years.      The original stall is located at Sixth Avenue, but it relocated to Bukit Batok East Avenue 5 when the lease was up.    There is a saying “old is gold”, I decided to try out if the wonton mee made by a retired restaurant chef is really as great as many people make it out to be.        There are only 7 items on the menu and the prices are very reasonable. There is Beef Tendon Stewed Beef Brisket Rice/ Noodle [$6], Beef Tendon Noodle [$8], Wontan Noodle [$3.50], Chicken Feet Noodle [$4], Cantonese Style Noodle with Shredded Meat [$4], Dumpling Noodle [$4] and Wontan Soup [$3.50].        The stall has recently started to offer Cantonese-style congee. There are 5 options to choose from: Pig Liver Porridge [$4], Minced Meat and...

Xiang Mei Roasted Meat - Hidden Roasted Meat Hawker in Bukit Batok

Xiang Mei Roasted Meat has been around for more than 20 years and it is what I call a true hidden gem of a hawker stall in Singapore. It may not have garnered any awards but people who live and work in the area know that this stall serves some excellent roasted meats.        Xiang Mei Roasted Meat is a stall in a coffeeshop in Bukit Batok Central that deserves a mention for its excellent roasted meats. It is located at the back of Bukit Batok Bus Interchange.        Roasted Duck costs $42, a whole Soy Sauce Chicken is only $25 and 1kg of Char Siew and Roasted Pork are both $40.  The prices are definitely much cheaper than restaurants such as  Kay Lee (Suntec City) .        This is a hawker stall, so don’t expect the aesthetically-pleasing presentation that you get in restaurants, but the quality of the meats are comparable.    The Roasted Pork here is not as oily even though it is still ...

Hup Lee Fried Bee Hoon - This Is Not The Famous Chong Pang Nasi Lemak

Fried bee hoon is a type of street food that has become very much a part of life in Singapore. A plate of fried bee hoon is the staple breakfast of many Singaporeans.      While I was living in Yishun, I was staying just opposite of Chong Pang, the housing estate in Yishun that is emblem of good food.    I am particularly fond of Hup Lee Fried Bee Hoon, located at Swee Sian Yuen coffeeshop. To date, I still think it is the best fried bee hoon I have had in Singapore.  This is not the famous Chong Pang Nasi Lemak although they do sell nasi lemak here. I made the same mistake as  Johor Kaki .        The fried bee hoon at Hup Lee Fried Bee Hoon is oilier than most other places but it is also more fragrant than most other places.    A plate of plain bee hoon costs $1 and you can add on your choice of sides. There are the usual stir-fried cabbage, spring rolls, fish cake, fish fillet, tofu, luncheon meat, sausages .... and thei...
