Gone are the days when Muslims are restricted to Swensens and fast food such as Burger King and 4 Fingers Crispy Chicken. Halal-certified restaurants of various cuisines have been popping up in Singapore in the past few years. There is   Cajun on Wheels from PasarBella (Suntec City)   for seafood and   Sedap Dan Sihat Steam Pot Delicacy   for the halal version of steamboat.   I have recently reviewed halal-certified Omoomo Food Concepts (Suntec City) last week. Carrying on the search for halal-certified Korean eateries, I decided to check out Waker Chicken X Oppa Chicken in Tampines. There is   Badoque   for Western fare and  The Ramen Stall  for Japanese lovers.  Omoomo is a newish restaurant at Suntec City Tower 3 that is halal-certified. There are only 2 type of food served here: don or ramen.  You have to order your food at the self-service machine. Omoomo only accepts Nets, MasterCard and UnionPay.  You can either order one of the 12 don and 6 ramen options, or create your own don and ramen. The ramen broth and don base starts at $8 and you choose 1 or more protein and condiment.  There is an assortment of sauces a available to make your meal even more tasty. Singapore was and still is predominately a Chinese country. Chinese stand for more than a third of Singapore’s population. With the influx of people from mainland China who came to Singapore to look for better opportunities, Singapore is looking more and more like “little China”. This phenomen is especially evident in Chinatown, the part of Singapore where most Chinese congregate.    There are restaurants that cater to the different dialact groups in Chinatown such as Hokkien, Cantonese and Hakka. There are also restaurant that are region-specific such as Sichuan and Hunan cuisines.    Those who who know me personally will know that I grew up in North-Eastern China.   The words “boulanger” (French for “bakery”) evokes the picture of a small French bakery shop filled with freshly-baked goodness. Add “artisan” to it and it sounds even more promising.   It was this mental image that drew me to Maison Kayser’s outlet in Suntec City. Maison Kayser is opened by Eric Kayser, a world-renowned French artisan Boulanger.  Eric Kayser opened his first bakery, Maison Kayser, in Rue Monge of Paris in 1996. Maison has since expanded into 120 shops in 24 countries. It’s flagship outlet in Paris continues to be the cradle of Maison Kayser where natural leaven is made and exported to Maison Kayser shops all over the world.  Maison Kayser is world-famous for their   Croissant   [$3.20].
