NY Night Market (Westgate) - Popular Fusion Korean Restaurant

Korean fusion restaurant are getting more popular in Singapore. The other three Korean fusion restaurants I have covered are   Nipong Naepong ,   Oh My Cafe   and   Omoomo .  The fourth Korean fusion restaurant I am going to try out is NY Night Market in Westgate.  NY Night Market was first established in Seoul, where it is better known as "New York Yasijang". NY Night Market specialises in international street food that you can find in New York city.  The decorations is all about New York. The walls are decorated with New York skyline, there are New York street signs and banners hanging everywhere. You can easily imagine yourself in New York city with a little imagination. The paper table mat is printed with a number of NY Night market's bestsellers, to help you with deciding what to order.  Nothing gets more classic than macaroni and cheese, most American kids grew up eating this. NY Night Market's   Mac & Cheese   [$8.90] is one l...

Chey Sua Carrot Cake - Michelin Bib Gourmand Carrot Cake

The Michelin Guide has long been regarded as the world's foremost authority of culinary merit. To win a Michelin one-star is a cause for celebration and to win a Michelin three-star is next to impossible.  So far I have already reviewed   Kok Sen ,   New Ubin Seafood (Hillview) ,   Ash & Elm ,   Master Tang Wontan Mee ,   Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle ,   Man Man Unagi Restaurant  and   Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle ,  Most Michelin-starred restaurants charges hefty prices thanks to the prestige the Michelin guide has bestowed upon them. I may not have the money to try out the Michelin three-starred restaurants, I am going to try out the Michelin Bib Gourmand food establishments. Bib Gourmand are awarded to “good quality, good value restaurants”. Most of the Bib Gourmand award winners in Singapore are hawkers and small restaurants which are not too expensive. I am going to embark on a Michelin Bib G...

HarriAnns Nonya Table - Heritage Nonya Restaurant Opens in Suntec City

Peranakan or nonya cuisine is getting more and more popular in Singapore in recent years. Peranankan cuisine is a fusion of Chinese and Malay cuisine with some Indonesian influences. Early Chinese migrants inter-married with local Malays, creating a cuisine that is known for its richness and complex   flavors.  HarriAnns is a three-generation Peranakan Restaurant known for its kuehs and authentic Peranakan dishes. HarriAnns was started by Madam Chia Nga Eng in the 1940s as a way to provide for her children after her husband passed away. She started by selling from a pushcart around Tiong Bahru and then a stall in Tiong Bahru Market.  The business was handed down to Harry, who in turn handed it down to his son, Alan. Alan rebranded the business into the HarriAnns Pte. Ltd. we know today. Without further ado, let me show you some of the signature dishes of HarriAnns. (Hint: get the dishes with the word “signature”.) This is   Signature Nonya Laksa   [$7.50]...

Eat at Seven: KOKORO Tokyo Mazesoba - A Different Type of Soba

One reason I love the Eat at Seven enclave in Suntec City is because the restaurants are always changing. A new Japanese restaurant has taken over the spot previously owned by Menya Takeichi.  Let’s go and check it out.  Mazesoba is “mixed noodle” in Japanese. Chef Takuma Ishikawa created KOKORO Mazesoba in Tokyo, Japan in 2013. KOKORO Mazesoba won the Best 2014 Mazesoba Award in Japan.  The KOKORO Tokyo Mazesoba restaurant in Suntec City is decked out in wooden tables and chairs. Fluorescent white lights illuminate the interior and the open layout makes the restaurant feel very spacious.  There are only 7 mains on the menu, 5 types of maze-soba and 2 types of maze-don. Maze-don swaps half of the soba for Japanese rice.  If you don’t know how to enjoy your maze-soba, look out for these illustrated instructions on the wall. The instructions are as follows:  Mix all the ingredients well.   Add in sauces. You are recommended to add in their homemad...

Cream & Custard Cakes and Tarts Now Available at Wild Olive Branch in Suntec City Mall

I came back from lunch one day and there was a name card on my table. The name card reads "Cream & Custard" in feminine elegant font. I asked my colleague why she put the namecard on my table and she said:"You should check out their cakes. They are super gorgeous." So I went to   Cream & Custard's website   and I could not take my eyes off the cakes.  Apparently, Cream & Custard has teamed up with Wild Olive Branch, a Christian lifestyle and book store. Cream & Custard has a cake display at the entrance of Wild Olive Branch in Suntec City Mall. There are 10 types of cakes and tarts on offer. As far as I know, this is Cream & Custard's only other outlet outside of its flagship store in Eon Shenton.  Wild Olive Branch is actually a Christian lifestyle and book store. They sell books, tote bags, cards and lifestyle products with inspiring quotes.  All that is good, but I am really more interested in the Cream & Custard cakes.  Th...
