Fat Chap - Asian-Indonesian Food at Suntec City Mall

Suntec City Mall welcomes a new addition to its vibrant dining scene. Located at ground floor of Tower 4, a few steps away from Promenade exit, Fat Chap serves Asian food with a twist. Run by the same people from “1855 The Bottle Shop”, Fat Chap’s interior is spacious and minimalistic while the wooden tables and chairs adds a little warmth.  Chef Selemat Susanto draws inspiration for the dishes from his childhood in Indonesia and from his travels around Asia. You can see the full menu   here .  The   16 Grains Japanese Rice Bowl   [$12] is only available during weekday lunchtime, Monday - Friday 11am - 3pm. The ricebowl consists of Japanese cucumber, cherry tomato, corn, edamame, gari shoga, furikake and an onsen egg. You can choose two skewers from a selection of 12 vegetable and meat skewers. It is healthy option for lunch and very value-for-money too.  Crispy Pig’s Ear   [$12] is supposed to be one of the signatures of this restaurant. The pi...

Alati Skewers - Authentic Xinjiang Lamb Skewers in Square 2

Lamb skewers (羊肉串) was and still is one of my favorite childhood food. It was a cheap (¥$0.10 per stick) and tasty snack that everyone can afford to enjoy. It originated from Xinjiang of Inner Mongolia and it is commonly found in the Northeastern part of China. There are quite a few Chinese restaurants in Singapore Chinatown that sells lamb skewers such as   Dong Bei Xiao Chu . These restaurants do not specialize in mutton skewers and some of them try to tweak the taste to suit the local palate.  I have recently found a small shop in Square 2 (of all places) that specializes in lamb skewers. Alati Skewers is located next to Mr. Bean on level 1 of Square 2.   The bright pink on dark blue logo reflects its Inner Mongolia origins.  You can choose to have either lamb or chicken, but lamb is definitely more worth it. This shop follows the original recipe of using only chilli powder and cumin powder. You can choose your preferred level of chilli and cumin ...

5 Reasons Why Haidilao Hot Pot is So Success

Long before Hai Di Lao became a listed company on Hong Kong stock market, this hotpot restaurant has caught my attention.   Every Hai Di Lao restaurant that I have passed by is packed with people with a long queue waiting outside. Moreover, from what I gather from friends who have tried Hai Di Lao, Hai Di Lao is more expensive than the   Bugis BBQ & Hotpot Buffet   that I have recently visited.  What is so special about Hai Di Lao that makes people willing to spend hours waiting dispute its relatively expensive prices?  After trying out Hai Di Lao (Royal Square) for myself, I think I can understand a little what all the fuss is about. I have listed 5 possible reasons why Hai Di Lao is so successful.  1. Queuing is no longer tiresome and boring  I am sure all of us have had the experience of queuing up. You cannot go anywhere else and you have nothing else to do besides scrolling through your handphone.  Queuing at Hai Di Lao is whole ne...

Bugis Hotpot & BBQ Buffet (武吉士烤涮) - Affordable BBQ and Steamboat

Bugis Hotpot & BBQ is the sister restaurant of the popular Jiu Gong Ge Hot Pot (九宫格火锅).  Bugis Hotpot & BBQ is currently offering a “4th person dines for free” promotion, so we decided to check it out.  Located at the ground floor of Bugis Cube behind the bus stop opposite Bugis Junction, Bugis BBQ & Hotpot Buffet should be pretty easy to find.  The spacious arrangement of the long tables   allows 6-8 people to seat together, making it the perfect place for large group gatherings.  Most of the popular barbecue and hotpot ingredients can be found on these two shelves located at the back of the restaurant. The shelf on the left contains various vegetables, mushrooms and meats. The shelf on the right contains various balls, noodles and fresh fruits.  There are 6 soup bases to choose from: Spicy/Wild Mushroom/Tomato/Chicken Soup/The Pig Bone/Dongyan. You can also order additional meats, cold dishes, staple food such as rice and noodles and drinks fr...
