5 Unagi Restaurants That Specializes in Unagi Hitsumabushi in Singapore

Ever since my first encounter with unagi hitsumabushi at Michelin-starred   Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant , I have developed an insatiable obsession with unagi.  To satisfy my unagi craving, I have decided to go on a hunt for the best unagi restaurants in Singapore. I have narrowed it down to the top 5 restaurants that specializes in unagi. To provide a fair comparison, this list only compares   hitsumabushi . Hitsumabushi means “a variety of ways to enjoy unadon (barbecued eel on rice”.  Hitsumabushi is Nagoya’s style of cooking freshwater eel. Hitsumabushi is served on a wooden tray, where the unadon is served in a round beautiful lacquerware. Accompanying the unadon is bowl of miso soup, a plate of seasonings (Japanese leek, wasabi, dried lava), a pot of daikon broth, a small bowl and a flat wooden scoop to divide the unadon and scoop into the small bowl.  There are 4 ways/steps to enjoying hitsumabushi:   Step 1: Scoop a quarter of the rice and gril...

Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut (Lucky Plaza) - Indonesian Restaurant

Lucky Plaza may look a little run down but there are many interesting eating places inside.  I have introduced you to   Alfa Cafe   previously. Today I am going to show you a popular Indonesian restaurant, Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut.  Wait for the waitress to bring you to a table, look through the menu and write your order on the order chit. Pass the order chit to the staff at the entrance counter and make payment.  If it is your first time to the restaurant and you have no idea what to order, just get any of the recommended dishes, which are bolded and highlighted in red.  You can’t go wrong with   Original Crispy Fried Duck + Rice (Bebek Goreng Original + Nasi)  [S$9.90] when the restaurant is named after this dish. “Bebek Goreng” literally means “fried duck” in Indonesian. Half a duck is marinated in their special blend of species and deep fried till so crispy you can eat everything except the big bones. Served with rice, fried tofu, tempeh (ferment...

Yan Ji Seafood Soup 炎记海鲜汤 - Famous Seafood Soup

The first Yan Ji Seafood Soup in Marsiling Mall started operating in the 1980s.  The emphasis on fresh seafood and consistent quality paid off during the 30 years of history.  Yan Ji Seafood Soup has since expanded into two more stalls in Broadway Coffeeshop and Far East Plaza.  Yan Ji Seafood Soup has been featured in   The Straits Times , and received “Best Food Awards 2009-2014” from The Green Book.  Hidden deep in Marsiling, Broadway Coffeeshop is not the most easy to find if you don’t live in the area. You have to take a bus from Marsiling MRT station to reach this coffee shop.  If you are taking the MRT, the stall at Marsiling Mall is probably more accessible.  There are altogether only 5 options on the menu, so selection should be easy. Most first-timers will probably go for the   Crayfish Seafood   [S$12/14/16/18],  Red Grouper Seafood   [S$12/14/16/18] or   Seafood Soup   [S$6/8/10/12].  You can also add on f...

iO Italian Osteria - Pricey Delish Italian Restaurant in HillV2

I was very inspired after reading   an article   about how Joseph Knowles from Vancouver became the best-dressed man from thrifting. “Thrifting” means shopping in thrift stores. A search on Google reveals that there are actually quite a few thrift stores in Singapore and thrifting has become more popular in the past few years.  I decided to try out thrifting. I made a beeline for The Salvation Army Praisehaven Mega Family Thrift Store in Bukit Timah one Saturday after work. After spending around 2 hours in there, I spent $10.70 on two dresses and a blouse and the kind cashier gave me the Mac keyboard cover for free. You can read about my first thrifting experience   here . I am not the shopping kind of girl and shopping of any kind drains me. After two hours of shifting through hundred of clothing, I needed to refuel my energy.  I headed to the nearest shopping centre around 1o minutes away, known as HillV2. There are quite a number of restaurants but the friend...
