Siam Square Mookata - No Frill Mookata in Jurong East Coffeeshop

Lately, I have noticed more and more mookata stalls opening up in coffeeshops around the island. There is one such stall called Siam Square Mookata besides   山东东记拉面小笼包   in Fu Chan Food Paradise. It looked really good so my girlfriend and I decided to try it out.  Siam Square Mookata is apparently quite popular and there are 9 outlets in Singapore, as proudly advertised on the front page of the menu. You will be given a portable stove and utensils. You choose the ingredients that you want. You can opt to make your own dipping sauce or use one of their concoctions - Medium, Spicy, Special and Less Spicy. Siam Square Mookata is perfect for satisfying a steamboat/mookata craving that is cheap and tasty.  Siam Square Mookata (Jurong East)  Address: Block 134 Jurong Gateway Road, Fu Chan Food Paradise, Singapore 600134 Telephone: 81196664 Opening Hours: Daily 3pm - 11pm

Rocher Original Beancurd - Beancurd and Chinese Fried Snacks

Rochor Original Beancurd is not famous. It is just a humble dessert shop in Selegie (I have only been to the Selegie outlet). There is nothing fancy about it. Rocher Original Beancurd reminds me of my teenage years which I spent in Selegie area. I wanted to introduce this classic dessert shop to everyone who has not heard of it before, hence this post. As the name suggests, Rocher Original Beancurd sells different types of beancurd, soya bean drinks and grass jelly drinks.  There are a few new products such as Xi Shi Beancurd [S$1.50] (I am guessing it is something like Lao Ban Soya Beancurd) and Soya Milk with Pearls [S$1.60] which I have yet to try. Besides drinks, Rocher Original Beancurd also sells Chinese fried snacks such as you tiao and buns. This is my favorite combination: Soyabean Milk [S$1.20] + Beancurd [S$1.50] + You Tiao [S$1.20]. The soyabean milk and you tiao are all freshly-made in-house. If I am feeling especially hungry or peckish, I will add on a Salted B...

Singapore Zam Zam vs Islamic Restaurant for Nasi Briyani

After I published my review on   Islamic Restaurant   on Facebook, a Facebook user commented that   Islamic Restaurant   is overrated. He suggested that I try out Singapore Zam Zam Restaurant and Bismillah Biryani Restaurant.   So here I am at Singapore Zam Zam Restaurant, to see if their briyani is indeed better than   Islamic Restaurant’s.  Established in 1908, Singapore Zam Zam Restaurant is one of the many halal restaurants along North Bridge Road. Judging from how packed the restaurant was, Singapore Zam Zam is definitely one of the most popular restaurant in the area.  If you can’t find a seat in the ground shop of Singapore Zam Zam Restaurant, there are more seats on the second level. There is air-conditioning  upstairs, keeping you cool as you tuck into the delicacies.  Singapore Zam Zam Restaurant specializes in POT Dum Briyani, Murtabak, Briyani and Goreng. I am here specifically for their briyani. The   Mutton Briyani ...

Shan Dong Dong Ji La Mian Xiao Long Bao 山东東記拉面小笼包

My girlfriend has been recommending me a coffeeshop stall in Jurong East that sells cheap and tasty Chinese steamed dumplings. When I was in Jurong East a few days ago, I decided to check the stall out for myself. Shan Dong Dong Ji La Mian Xiao Long Bao is one of the stalls in Fu Chan Food  Paradise, a nondescript food court at the end of Jurong East central. All of Shan Dong Dong Ji La Mian Xiao Long Bao’s dumplings are freshly-made in the stall. No matter what time you visit, you will see the workers making the dumplings by hand. This is the   Shangdong Dumplings   山东水饺   [S$5 for 12] that my girlfriend has been raving to me about. The dumpling skin is thin and packed full with fillings. You can also get frozen dumplings at S$30 for 15 pieces, handmade upon order.  If dumplings alone is not enough for you, you can also order   Dumpling/Wanton Noodle   水饺面/云吞面   [S$4]. I find the noodles a little too soft for my liking, but I like the price. I de...
