Inle Myanmar Restaurant - Authentic Myanmar Cuisine in Peninsular Plaza

It has been two months since I came back from Myanmar and I have been missing the delicious food I had there. I especially miss   Lucky Seven Tea Shop ’s Samosa Salad and Tea Leaf Salad from   Mya Shwe Maung Tea Shop . (Please visit   Myanmar   page to see all my blog posts on Myanmar.)  Luckily for me, Singapore is a melting pot of cultures and you can find almost every cuisine in Singapore. Peninsula Plaza opposite St. Andrew’s  Cathedral is known as “Little Myanmar” and there are quite a few Myanmar restaurants there. One of the more famous restaurant there is Inle Myanmar Restaurant. Named after the famous Inle Lake in Myanmar, Inle Myanmar Restaurant has been operating for more than 16 years.  The menu is well-designed with numbered photographs that corresponds with the dishes listed below. Pickled Tea Leave Salad   [Individual S$9, Mixed S$7] ( laphet thoke ) is an all-time favorite delicacy of Myanmar. The tea leaves are fermented, pickled ...

Otoke Chicken - Halal Korean Fried Chicken in Lucky Plaza

Lucky Plaza may be known as “Little Philippines” to many Singaporeans, but there is much more than just Philippines shops and restaurants. There are Indonesian restaurants ( Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut   and   Ayam Penyet Ria ) and I recently discovered a Korean fried chicken restaurant. Otoke Chicken is located at the entrance of Asian Food Mall in the basement of Lucky Plaza. Otoke is a popular fast-food chain in Vietnam and it is one of the newest halal-certified Korean fried chicken restaurant in Orchard Road.  Besides Korean fried chicken and chicken burger, Otoke Chicken also has rice sets during lunch hour.  Special Sauce Fried Chicken Drumstick / Wing   [Combo S$7.90 - S$22.70, A La Carte S$6.40 - S$16.4] comes in 3 flavors: Spicy, Soy Garlic or Black Pepper. The chicken is tender and juicy and the soy garlic sauce that I chose has just the right balance of sweetness and saltiness. There is a choice of Cheese or Seaweed for the   Shaked French Fries ...

Ayam Penyet Ria - Another Indonesian Restaurant in Lucky Plaza

Lucky Plaza is my go-to place for cheap and delicious food in Orchard Road. Not only are there Filipino ( Inasal ) restaurants and shops, there are also a few Indonesian restaurants ( Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut ) worth checking out.  Ayam Penyet Ria to the right of   Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut   on the first floor of Lucky Plaza. Yes, the restaurant on the fourth floor of Lucky Plaza is the same restaurant. Ayam Penyet Ria was established in 2004 as a family-owned restaurant serving authentic Indonesian food. Ayam Penyet Ria claims to have pioneered the popular Indonesian dish ayam penyet (smashed fried chicken). Ayam Penyet Ria now has 4 outlets in different parts of Singapore. Besides ayam penyet, Ayam Panyet Ria also has many other combinations of fried food, entrees and soups.  This is the restaurant’s signature   Ayam Penyet + Nasi   [S$7.90]. While   Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut ’s ayam penyet is a little dry, Ayam Penyet Rita’s chicken is tender and moist. The s...

GoroGoro Steamboat & Korean Buffet

When I first saw the name of the restaurant, I thought there's some deep hidden meaning behind the name "GoroGoro". The company website explains "the name actually are suggestions of a rumbling tummy when you are hungry, and the hot bubbling sound of the steamboat soups when they are boiling". So much for deep meanings.  GoroGoro Steamboat & Korean Buffet is one of the 5 restaurants managed by Kingdom Food Group, a Korean food group.  The outlet at The Centrepoint is brightly-lit with ample seating. The walls are decorated blue with the cartoonish GoroGoro and friends.  The main draw of GoroGoro Steamboat and Korean Buffet is its wallet-friendly prices. At S$16.90 - 26.90++ for lunch buffet and S$26.90 - 28.90++ for dinner buffet, it is one of the cheaper buffet in Singapore. There are discounts for students and senior citizens too, making it even more affordable.  The vegetables, seafood and meat for the steamboat are separately placed in d...
