Greyhound Cafe - Thai-Western Fusion Cuisine in Paragon

Greyhound Cafe is located behind the concierge counter on level 1 of Paragon Shopping Centre. The black panels around the parameter of the cafe and the black brass partition in the middle gives it a sophisticated look. I thought Greyhound Cafe probably originated from London or Paris, but it is actually from Bangkok. If you take a closer look at the menu, it is not difficult to see that most of the dishes have varying degrees of Thai influence.  If you are feeling hungry and want an appetizer that is filling, try   Sandwich in a Bowl   [S$12]. I was genuinely surprised at the huge bowl that was served to me. It was bigger than my face!  Everything that you will expect to find in a sandwich - toasted bread, crisp lettuce, champignon mushroom, tuna and caesar dressing - are all cut up and served in a bowl. The salad is already mixed with caesar dressing so you can just dig in. The toasted bread bites are slightly crunchy, bringing new texture to the classic caes...

Kazo 卡滋屋 - Taiwan Confectionery Specialises in Choux Puffs

When I went to visit my ex-colleagues in Suntec City, they told me that a new dessert shop has opened in East Wing. Let’s check out this new dessert shop called Kazo. Kazo is on level 1 of East Wing of Suntec City Mall (beneath Golden Village cinema). It is located right next to the escalator, you can’t miss it.  Kazo (卡兹屋) is a confectionary store that originated from Taiwan, where it is known as Nichifu (日芙洋菓子). Kazo has 3 outlets in Singapore - Chinatown Point, Suntec City Mall and JCube.  Kazo specializes in desserts such as choux puffs, tarts and cakes. The ingredients are specially flown in from Taiwan regularly to make sure that the taste and standards remains on par with their Taiwan counterparts.  If this is your first time to Kazo and you have no idea what to order, just get the first 4 items on the menu - Kazo Polo, Crispy Cream Puff, Durian Cream Puff and Kazu Kazu. The helpful staff told me that most people order these 4 items, so I did the same. ...

Food Exchange @ Novotel Singapore on Stevens - Beautiful Decorations but Lousy Food

I have been to quite a few buffet restaurants in Singapore, but I have never heard of Food Exchange @ Novotel Singapore on Stevens until I was there a week ago for a colleague’s farewell dinner.  I did a search on Google and I was very impressed by the grand decorations of the restaurant. I went with great expectations, but I was sorely disappointed.  Food Exchange @ Novotel Singapore on Stevens is supposed to be an international buffet restaurant, but I only saw Chinese, Indian and Japanese cuisine. I like to start my meal with the seafoods but this has got to be the most dismal-looking seafood spread I have ever seen in an international buffet. There are just prawns, mussels and clams, there’s not even an oyster to be seen. The salad station is housed on a separate counter opposite the seafood. There are an assortment of greens and 5 salad dressings to choose from. The main buffet section is at the back of the restaurant atop a beautiful u-shaped marble counter. The l...

Chinese Cuisine 中国美食 - Northeastern, Hunan and Sichuan Cuisines

My colleague recently brought me to a Chinese restaurant run by a friend of hers.   This Chinese restaurant on Balestier road is helmed by two super chefs from China who both have more than 20 years of experience. Together, they whip up Northeastern, Hunan and Sichuan dishes. This   Mixed Chicken Gizzard Salad 凉拌鸡胗   [S$8] is a refreshing appetizer. The chicken gizzard is well-seasoned with just the right amount of chilli and seasoning.   White Mushroom with Salted Egg Sauce   咸蛋白玉菇   [S$12] is a new dish. I wish the salted egg taste could be stronger, but it is nevertheless very addictive. Anything with salted egg become very addictive by default, at least to me. There are many choices of vegetables available but the staff recommended bean sprouts which just came in that day. I ordered   Garlic Bean Sprouts 蒜蓉豌豆苗   [S$8]. The bean sprouts are very fresh and crispy, the garlic brings out the natural sweetness of the bean sprouts. Stew Lamb ...
