Belle-Ville Pancake Cafe (Square 2 @ Novena) - Soft Fluffy Pancakes

Belle-Ville Pancake Cafe has been around since 1958 which originated from Osaka, Japan. Belle-Ville Pancake Cafe opened its first Singapore outlet in Bugis Junction in 2018. It was so successful that it has even been featured on   Michelin Guide Singapore 2018 . This is Belle-Ville Pancake’s outlet in Square 2 @ Novena.   As you can see from the menu, Belle-Ville Pancake House specializes in millefeuille pancakes. The millefeuille pancakes are made using fresh milk, separated egg yolks and high-grade wheat flour.   These millefeuille pancakes are purposely only cooked 80%, they will probably be the softest pancakes you have ever tasted. You can choose to have 2 pieces, 4 pieces or 8 pieces of pancake with an assortment of toppings. This is   Grilled Apple with Homemade Caramel Pancake   [S$12.20 for 4 pieces, S$16.20 for 8 pieces]. I am a little disappointed that the apple slices are candied and not fresh apples but the freshly-whipped cream and vanilla ice...

Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak (Square 2 @ Novena)

Whenever I bought lunch at Warung Kampung, I saw a long queue at Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak next door. A quick search revealed that Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak is a hugely popular hawker stall that originated from Boon Lay Place.  It is not only famous for their delicious nasi lemak but also for their late closing hours. Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak is open till 3.30am, satisfying many midnight hunger pangs.  I am thankful that Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak has a stall at the basement of Square 2 @ Novena so I don’t have to travel all the way to Jurong West.  There is (sadly) no seating area so the only option is to takeaway. There is always a long queue during lunch hour but the queue moves pretty quickly.  There are 4 nasi lemak sets to choose from, priced at S$4.50 each:  - Nasi Lemak Chicken Set - Nasi Lemak Fish Set - Nasi Lemak Fish Fillet Set - Nasi Lemak Otah Set This is the Nasi Lemak Chicken Set [S$4.50]. The serving is extremely generous, the packet was al...

PocoLoco - Hidden Gem of Italian Restaurant at Royal Square @ Novena

Royal Square @ Novena is a mixed development that houses Courtyard by Marriott Singapore Novena, Royal Square Medical Centre and a few retail shops. This is hardly the place I would expect to find an Italian restaurant. PocoLoco stands proudly on the second level of Royal Square @ Novena. The front of the restaurant doesn’t really give me an Italian feel, unlike   iO Italian Osteria   which is oozing with Italian charm.  PocoLoco’s dining area is decorated in a clean modern-French style. The minimalist look makes the place a little cold but the two modern chandeliers adds a little elegance.   Let’s start off with appetizers.   I remember having my first taste of burrata cheese at   Ash & Elm . I am not sure if it was because I was there with my former colleagues and there was a lot of conversation going on but I wasn’t very impressed with the burrata then. This time, I have the whole   Burrata   [S$18.10] to myself and I really enjoyed it. Bur...

Caveman Food (Square 2 @ Novena) - Paleo-Friendly Meals

Paleo diet is also known as Caveman diet, Stone Age diet or Paleolithic diet mimics what prehistoric humans used to eat. This includes vegetables, fruits, nuts, roots and meat - food that can be obtained by hunting and gathering.  Caveman Food is one of the restaurants in Singapore that serves paleo-friendly foods. I had lunch at   Caveman Food’s outlet in Star Vista back in 2016   and I liked the idea of clean-eating paleo diet.  I was pleasantly surprised to find another Caveman Food outlet at the basement of Square 2 @ Novena.  The menu only shows chicken, but Caveman Food has 3 mains - chicken, salmon and beef with 8 side dishes to choose from. You can choose how much chicken you want and the flavor of chicken. You can get 1/4 Chicken (which is really a drumstick) [S$10 with set, S$6 ala carte], Double 1/4 Chicken (2 drumsticks) [S$15 with set, S$12 ala carte], 1/2 Chicken [S$14 with set, S$10 ala carte] or Whole Chicken [S$24 with set, S$20 ala carte]. Ther...

Warung Kampung (Square 2 @ Novena) - Indonesian and Thai in Square 2 Basement

Warung Kampung has been selling Indonesian nasi padang at the basement of Clark Quay Central since October 2014. Warung Kampung emphasizes on serving authentic Indonesian cuisine, following recipes that originated from Indonesia. The spices and ingredients used in the dishes are prepared fresh daily. Warung Kampung does not use Monosodium glutamate (MSG), preservatives or artificial colouring in any of their dishes.  Warung Kampung now has a total of 3 outlets in Singapore. Unfortunately, this outlet at the basement of Square 2 @ Novena does not sell ala carte nasi padang. The dishes come in sets, with both Indonesian and Thai dishes to choose from.  Warung Kampung’s   Rendang Beef Set   [S$6.90] is definitely the best beef rendang I have had in a long while.  The beef cubes are extremely tender and well-marinated with spices. You have a choice of white or brown rice and the set comes with a fried egg.  The only downside is the portion size. The...
