126 Dim Sum Wen Dao Shi 揾到食 - Old School Dim Sum Shop

Last week I joined a Geylang walking tour which ended with dinner at 126 Dim Sum Wen Dao Shi 揾到食. Another addition to my   dim sum list . This humble dim sum place started off serving dim sum in 126 Sims Avenue in 1985, hence its name. The Boon Keng outlet at 1086 Serangoon Road was opened in 2012. Interior It's an old restaurant with steamers and oven at the entrance to maximise the seating capacity inside. There are long and short tables to cater to different groups of people. There is air-conditioning which makes the dining experience more enjoyable. The Food The menu comes in a green clear folder with pages filled with pictures of every type of dim sum they sell. There are over 300 fried and steamed dim sum varieties to choose from, there is something for everyone. You can also view their   menu   from their website (without prices). The food are served on white and pink plates, reminiscent of 90's old-school coffeeshops. This is the humble   Siew Mai 烧卖 ...

Good BBQ 好再来 - Northeastern Chinese Restaurant in Kallang

I recently discovered another Northeastern Chinese restaurant named Good BBQ 好再来 at Kallang. This restaurant is just a 5-minute walk from Kallang MRT station, no wonder it’s so packed even on weekdays. The Food Good BBQ focuses more on the skewers while other Northeastern Chinese restaurants such as   Dong Bei Cai Guan 东北菜馆   focuses more on cooked dishes. Good BBQ has a whole range of skewers, from mutton and beef to chicken and pork to seafood and vegetables. Sadly, I find the skewers a little overcooked and as a result, the meat tends to be a little tough. All the skewers have exactly the same seasoning, which becomes a little too much after a few sticks. I wanted to eat Korean Cold Noodles 冰镇冷面 [S$6] but it was sold out so I had to change to   东北大拉皮   [S$12]. The liangpi here are made with rice flour which gives it a chewier texture. Mixed together with black fungus, cucumber stripes, carrot stripes beancurd skin and sesame paste, it is a refreshing dish. ...

Kenny Rogers Roasters - Classic Rotisserie Chicken

I used to love going to Kenny Rogers Roasters when I was young. My mother used to bring me there a lot. It was cheap (by the standards at that time) and the portions were huge. Plus, it's opened by my favourite country singer, Kenny Rogers. I don’t remember where it was located (I think it was at Marina Square) but I remembered the smell and taste of the restaurant. The restaurant felt warm and inviting with soft orange lights. Kenny Rogers songs sang softly in the background. They had the best corn muffins, hot from the oven, moist and fluffy with every bite. The whole plate would be heaped with food and I always had trouble finishing the whole plate. Kenny Rogers Roasters disappeared for a few years, and it reopened in 2019. The Restaurant Kenny Rogers Roasters recently opened a new express outlet in Clementi Mall. I have been avoiding it lest it spoils my fond memories of the brand. But I have run out of restaurants to explore so let's see if it is still as good. The decor i...

PUTIEN - One Star Michelin Restaurant Serves Amazing Fujian Cuisine

PUTIEN specializes in heartwarming Hokkien dishes from the coastal province of Fujian. I know the flagship PUTIEN restaurant at Kitchener Road was awarded one Michelin star in 2016 - 2019 and 2021 - 2022 but is it worth all the hype? Let’s find out. The Food You can see the full PUTIEN menu   here . Seaweed and Mini Shrimps Dressed with Sauce   虾苗头水紫菜   [S$9.80] is one of the signature appetizers here. PUTIEN only uses the first harvest of fully-grown seaweed harvested every year. It is slightly sweet and sourish which helps to whet the appetite. It’s amazing how flavorful the   Braised Bamboo Shoot   [S$8.80] thanks to braising in slow heat for 8 hours. I thought   Cold Pork Trotter Jelly   家常猪蹄冻   [S$9.80] is a Northeastern Chinese dish, I was surprised to see it in a Fujian restaurant. They did a great job, the pork trotter jelly is bouncy with collagen. Yellow croaker is a fish species native to Fujian.   100 Second Stewed Yellow Croaker ...

Manchurian Lamb Hotpot 满族全羊铺

I recently watched a YouTube video where the guy was having roasted whole lamb (烤全羊) in Xinjiang. That got me craving for roasted whole lamb but can I find that in Singapore? I did a Google search and the only restaurant that serves roasted whole lamb (烤全羊) in Singapore is Manchurian Lamb Hotpot in Chinatown. I have always wanted to try 烤全羊 so I am really excited to try it at Manchurian Lamb Hotpot. Decor Manchurian Lamb Hotpot is one of the restaurants along the covered walkway that used to be Chinatown Food Street. The decor inside has a strong Manchurian vibe with distinctively bright-red tables and chairs. There is a picture of a beautiful Manchurian noblewomen at the back of the restaurant. The Food I really wanted to try their Roasted Whole Lamb but it costs a whopping S$668 and you need to reserve 3 days in advance, so I ended up having Manchurian hotpot instead. You won’t find the usual pork bone, tomato or tom yum soup bases here. The soup bases here are more exotic, such as ...
