Kwan Tzi Zhai Vegetarian Cuisine 關自齋 - Vegetarian Laksa

A Buddhist friend recently brought me to eat vegetarian laksa at Kwan Tzi Zhai Vegetarian Cuisine. The nearest MRT station is Aljunied and you have to walk about 15 minutes to reach the coffeeshop. You should be able to spot Kwan Tzi Zhai Vegetarian Cuisine 關自齋 right away. I seldom see vegetarian stalls doing so well that it occupies 2 stalls. The menu consists mainly of different types of fried rice, fried noodles and rice dishes. But I am here to try their   Vegetarian Laksa   [S$6]. Aside from the lack of clams, the vegetarian version is just as aromatic as the usual laksa. I asked for non-spicy so the auntie only gave me the clear coconut broth. The dried beancurd soaks up the creamy coconut broth wonderfully. There are even vegetarian version of Char Kuek Tiao, I am curious how that tastes like. Hao Lai Wu Steamboat BBQ 好来屋火锅烧烤

As compared to ala carte steamboat like Hai Di Lao, I prefer buffet-style steamboat where I can eat all I want for a single price. I did a search online and found Hao Lai Wu Steamboat BBQ. Hao Lai Wu Steamboat BBQ has two outlets - one in bustling Chinatown and the other at Burlington Square. The Burlington Square outlet has a special costume wardrobe where you can have steamboat dressed as a Mongolian princess or an elegant court lady. There are some cooked food to munch on as your steamboat is cooking, but the fried buns and squid rings are not very healthy. There are various condiments to compliment your hotpot. The ingredients are fresh with a good variety of meats, seafood and vegetables to choose from. Shin Minori Japanese Restaurant - Japanese Buffet in UE Square

Shin Minori Japanese Restaurant has been on my “to-visit” list for the longest time but I couldn’t find friends to go with me. I finally got to visit the outlet in UE Square with my colleagues a few weeks ago. The outlet at UE Square is clean and comfortable with ample wooden tables and padded chairs. Omizu Buffet Even though Omizu Buffet (Adult S$62.90++, Child S$49.90++) is the cheapest option of all the buffets available, it offers more than 220 Japanese cuisine to choose from. Besides sashimi and different types of sushi, there are also steamed dishes, grilled and deep-fried dishes, rice and noodles, mini hotpot and desserts. We started with some inppinmono (appetizers) -   Chuka Wakame   (Japanese seaweed),   Chuka Zika Sansai   (marinated squid),   Chuka Asari   (marinated clams) and   Chuka Idako   (marinated baby octopus). Tofou Moriwase   is chilled Japanese tofu served in 3 ways - Kimchi Toufu, Pitan Toufu and Goma Toufu. Sas...

Micasa Kitchen & Bar - European Cuisine Using Local Ingredients

Nestled among the shophouses along Jalan Jurong Kechil is Micasa Kitchen & Bar. This laidback restaurant looks more like a cafe than a restaurant, but the food will blow you away. Micasa Kitchen & Bar is the brainchild of Singapore local Chef Micah. After graduating from Temasek Culinary Academy, Chef Micah honed his culinary skills at various 5-star establishments in Singapore and Paris. After working at a hawker stall in Bukit Timah Food Centre with his parents, Chef Micah finally realized his life-long dream by opening Micasa Restaurant and Bar. The menu features European dishes that are modified to fit the local palate using locally sourced produce. Appetizers We had   Fresh Bread with Extra Virgin Olive Oil   [S$4.50] to start the meal. The freshly-baked bread are toasted till crispy and sprinkled with extra-virgin olive oil. It’s such a simple yet satisfying appetizer. I never knew the ordinary cauliflower can be so delicious until I had   ‘Wok-Hei’ C...
