Sa Tae Bak Yakitori - Japanese Bar Opens Second Outlet in Eunos

Sa Tae Bak Yakitori recently opened a second outlet in Eunos and I was kindly invited for a food tasting. The Japanese yakitori bar is a 15-minute walk from Eunos MRT station and blends in with its industrial design. The menu at the Eunos outlet is the same as the one in Bali Lane. There is a good variety of chicken/pork/beef/seafood/vegetable skewers as well as rice dishes, salads and fried foods and appetizers. For those of you who are lazy to choose what to order, you can get the   Tasting Menu for 2 Pax   [S$69] which includes: Grilled Ray Fin Edamame French Fries Mentaiko Chicken Thigh Chicken Thigh with Leek Chicken Meat Ball Chicken Mid Wing Enoki Bacon Miso Grilled Unagi Skewer Rice Cake Bacon Miso Angus Ribeye Japan A5 Wagyu Sirloin Mentaiko Rice Ball As you can see, this is a more conservative set with skewers that everyone will enjoy. I especially enjoyed the Rice Cake Bacon Miso with the chewy rice cake wrapped in salty bacon. Japan A5 Wagyu Sirloin was so tender a...

Qin Ji Rougamo - New Rou Jia Mo Restaurant in Clementi Mall

Just when I thought   Clementi Mall   is getting stale and Qin Ji Rougamo opened in Clementi Mall. Roujiamo or rougamo is a popular street food from Shaanxi that is gaining popularity in Singapore in recent years. Qin Ji Rougamo focuses only on rougamo and Shaanxi rice noodles with a small selection of sides and drinks. There are 6 rougamo variations to choose from. The signature is   Qinji Pork Rougamo 秦记肉夹馍   [S$6.50] while my favorite is   Cumin Pork Rougamo 孜然肉夹馍   [S$6.50]. There is also a   Healthy Vegetable Rougamo 健康蔬菜馍 [S$5.90] for the health-conscious and vegetarians. The buns are baked upon order with super crispy exterior and stuffed with meat of your choice. The combination of flaky bun with juicy meat and bell peppers paired with hot rice noodles makes for a satisfying meal. Qin Ji Rougamo’s rice noodles all tend to be a little salty. My favorite is   Pickled Cabbage Fish with Rice Noodle 酸菜鱼米线   [S$10.80] while my collea...

JUICE - Intimate French Wine Bar

A friend recently brought me to a French bar called JUICE that has a totally different vibe from   Smoke & Mirrors . There’s no sign whatsoever to indicate the entrance to this hidden drinking hole. Just go up the stairs besides the Dumpling Darlings with red neon light sign on its glass window. At the top of the stairs, you will see a row of empty wine bottles to your left which is a good indication that you have come to the right place. Inside, it’s dark and cosy with a long communal table and sofa by the winding stairs that lead to the second floor. This place is perfect for date nights or girls night out. I especially like the balcony which has seats on both ends. There is a comfy sofa on the left side. There is a young handsome sommelier who can recommend wines according to your preference. This is the Cheese Platter we got to go with our wine, both of which turn out terrific. I love that the accompanying bread are still warm, which tastes lovely with butter and cheeses. J...

Ci Hang Vegetarian 慈航中西素食

The Buddhist friend who introduced me to   Kwan Tzi Zhai Vegetarian Cuisine   introduced me another vegetarian restaurant, Ci Hang Vegetarian 慈航中西素食. This vegetarian restaurant is conveniently-located 10 minutes away from Aljunied MRT station. As the name implies, this restaurant serves vegetarian versions of both Chinese and Western dishes. My friend recommended me to try their   Chicken Rice 素鸡饭   [S$6.20]. The “chicken” are made from tofu skin rolls that taste surprisingly like chicken meat. Even the rice has a subtle fragrance of chicken rice. For Western fare, I tried their   Braised Chicken 乡鸡片   [S$11.20] which is one of their bestsellers. The “chicken” is made of tofu, deep-fried and doused in savory sauce. The texture of the fried “chicken” and mashed potatoes remind me of chicken schnitzel that I had in Germany. They didn’t have Hot Dessert of the Day so I ordered   Ai Yu Jelly 爱玉冰   [S$3.80]. It’s a simple dessert of ai yu jelly ...

Gagahoho Ox-Tail Soup - Authentic Korean Restaurant

I chanced upon a TikTok video recommending Gagahoho Ox-Tail Soup. I was curious about the Korean version of oxtail soup so I decided to try out it out. The entrance of Gagahoho Ox-Tail Soup is located to the right of   Hao Lai Wu Steamboat BBQ. It’s a tiny restaurant beautifully decorated with hanging cherry blossoms from the ceiling. The Food Gagahoho Ox-Tail Soup only offers 13 items on its menu, even the most indecisive people should have no problem ordering. Oxtail soup is known as   Seoul Beef Soup   [S$15.90] is not as good as the TikTok video make it out to be. It is pretty bland with slices of beef instead of oxtail bones. There is also   Beef Soup Banmian   [S$15.90] if you want to make it into a meal. I have been dying to try   Boiled Pork Slices   [S$36] after watching so many mukbang videos on YouTube. The pork slices are boiled and simply garnished with white sesame seeds. The accompanying condiments include spring onions, green chillies, ...
