Hopscotch (Capitol) - Artisan Cocktails and Fusion Cuisine

Hopscotch is another Singapore homegrown restaurant, combining a full-fledged restaurant with artisanal cocktails. The restaurant pays homage to Singapore culture with the restaurant name Hopscotch, a game I and many Singaporeans played during our childhood. Drinks The cocktails have a distinctive Singapore style, drawing on Singapore cultural influences to create one-of-a-kind cocktails. Curtain Call   [S$26] has a very cinematic display where the staff lifts off the lid and smoke oozes out. The cocktail is served in a pentagonal-shaped glass held up by stainless-steel base over a light disk. It’s sweet and fruity, which I like. I regretted getting   Lucky Charm   [S$24] because the cempedek scotch is too strong for me. It’s still cinematic, where the staff pours oil on the Chinese charm and sets it on fire. Food Besides interesting cocktails, Hopscotch also serves an extensive menu of fusion cuisines. You can find their full menu   here . If you are a cheese-lover,...

Coucou Authentic Swiss Restaurant and Bar

I discovered Coucou Authentic Swiss Restaurant and Bar when I was eating at   Fortuna Italian Restaurant   which is located just next door. I’ve not have had Swiss food in Singapore, I was very interested in trying out this restaurant that claims to serve authentic Swiss food. The inside of Coucou Authentic Swiss Restaurant and Bar is cosy with warm lights and Swiss cuckoo clocks on the wall. The Food I have never heard of a malakoff but it’s apparently a Swiss speciality from small villages in picturesque “La Cote” region.   One Cheese Dome   [S$12] is literally one single ball of deep-fried Gruyere cheese. It’s pretty expensive for just one ball of cheese, no matter how melty the centre is. Cheese fondue is the most iconic of Swiss cuisine. Coucou Authentic Swiss Restaurant & Bar offers 7 variations of cheese fondu.   Fondue-Moitie-Moitie   [S$38/person] is the original Swiss recipe, which combines gruyere and Swiss cheese for a creamy mixture....

Giraffa - Famous Japanese Curry Cheese Bun Opens in Westgate

Giraffa, the famous Japanese curry cheese bun has finally opened its first shop in Westgate! This shop only sells 1 type of curry cheese bun at S$5.60 per piece. They are currently running a half-price promotion when you get 2 pieces which means 2 curry buns for the price of 1! The bun is chewy with a slight milky sweetness while the filling is a combination of pork and beef gravy with molten stretchy cheese. I find a curry inside slightly sweet but still delicious. The outside is fried to golden perfection. Giraffa Address: 3 Gateway Drive, Westgate #02-05A, Singapore 608532 Telephone: 65927783 Opening Hours: Daily 11am - 10pm

Wonderful Chinese Restaurant 旺德福中餐馆

It’s been a while since I last had some authentic Northeastern (dongbei) Chinese food and I’m kind of craving for it. I happened to pass by Wonderful Chinese Restaurant 旺德福中餐馆 and decided to try it with a friend. Most of the dishes at Wonderful Chinese Restaurant are mainly dongbei (Northeastern Chinese) dishes with some local favorites. There are three Wonderful Chinese Restaurants in Singapore but the one in Upper Paya Lebar is the only one with a restaurant by itself. The other two are hawker stalls in coffeeshops. The Food Grilled fish seems to be one of the signatures, so we ordered   ChongQing Grilled Fish with Green Pepper   重庆鲜青椒烤鱼 [S$35.80]. The fish was deep-fried till really crispy, which is different from other grilled fish I have had. Grilled fish usually comes with clear broth with lots of accompanying vegetables but this grilled fish was literally laying in a pool of oil. It was so oily that I eventually gave up trying to finish the fish. Cucumber with Peanuts 拍...
