Ramen Keisuki Tonkotsu King Matsuri - Keisuki Challenge

Fifth stop, Ramen Keisuki Tonkotsu King Matsuri.      Here we are!     I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen "Yukimatsuri". The broth is tonkotsu with miso- it is too complicated for my taste. The pork chasyu is dry and hard unlike the ones I had at   Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King   and   Ramen Keisuke Tori King . The special thing about this ramen is the addition of cheese powder, but the cheese powder is either of not good quality or they used the wrong type of cheese because I don't taste much difference in the broth with and without the cheese powder. Yaki Matsuri (Snow Festival) is held every in February in Sapporo, capital of Hokkaido. The cheese powder is added   in  reminiscent of the fluffy Hokkaido winter snow, but it did nothing to enhance the taste of the broth.     The noodles used here are the thin ones. The noodles are cooked and has a good bite to it.   There are quite a few interesting ramens here, I think I will co...

Ramen Keisuke Tori King - Keisuki Challenge

Fourth stop, Ramen Keisuke Tori King.     First time I am able to get such a clear picture of the noren (Japanese fabric dividers).     Condiments and free-flow hard-boiled eggs and bean sprouts. The lady who served me was a pleasant young lady and she even brought me two peeled eggs that are just cooked and are still warm.      I ordered Tori King Ramen Special which comes with all the topping of seaweed, flavoured egg and chashu.   Keisuke Tokyo's Chicken Stock Ramen   has a clear broth while Tori King Ramen is almost like a cross between tonkotsu and chicken stock. It is thicker and tastier. Chasyu are not the heavily marinated ones found outside, theirs is plain but tasteful which is good because it does not divert your attention. The chicken drumstick is cooked just right and the meat falls right off.     The noodles used is yellow, much like the yellow noodles Chinese use, but without the pungent yeast taste.    Noth...

Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King - Keisuke Challenge

Second stop, Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King.   I initially wanted try the other two types of ramen, Black Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and Red Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, but I am not able to take spicy food well. I decided not to torture myself and just enjoy a good bowl of ramen, so I ordered Tonkotsu King Ramen.     Everything is as good as it was the first time I came, the quality of food is consistent.   Two restaurants down, four more to go. Ramen Keisuki Tonkotsu King Address:  1 Tras Link, #01-19 Orchid Hotel Telephone: 66360855 Opening Hours: Monday - Sunday 11.30am - 3pm; 6pm - 10.30pm

Gyoza King - Keisuke Challenge

Third stop, Gyoza King.   I have already tried all three types of dumplings and eight side dishes, so I can order whatever I want.     I decided to go with Tori King Gyoza because it does not have the overwhelming taste of pork or the slight disappointment of not tasting like a prawn gyoza when it is supposed to be one.     For the side dishes, I ordered Pork Sukiyaki With A Raw Egg and Deep Fried White Fish In Tempura Sauce. I forgot to dip the pork sukiyaki in raw egg the first time I ate so I decided to eat it the authentic way this time round, but the raw egg did not improve the taste much. The deep fried fish is as good as ever with soft white fish fried till golden crispy.   Three restaurants down, three more to go.      Gyoza King Address:  1 Tras Link,  #01-15 Orchid Hotel Telephone:  6804 6674 Opening Hours: 11.30am – 2:30pm, 6:00pm – 10:30 pm (last order 10pm)

Ramen Dining Keisuke Tokyo - Keisuke Challenge

Keisuke has started the Keisuke Challenge, where challengers have to dine and get a chop at all six Keisuke outlets and they will be awarded with a Keisuke VIP Card. I have already decided that I am going to try out all of the six Keisuke outlets, this has just given me even more motivation to do so in a less time.   First stop, Keisuke Tokyo.         The Crab Stock Ramen's broth is clearer and thinner than that of Noboshi Ramen and Crab Stock Ramen. Though clear, the broth is flavourful and very fragrant.     The noodles used in the Crab Stock Ramen is thinner, which compliments the clear broth.   One restaurant down, 5 more restaurants to go.    Keisuki Tokyo Address: 3 Temasek Boulevard, Suntec City Mall #02-391/391 Telephone: 63377919 Opening Hours: 11.30am - 10pm

L'Entrecote (Suntec City)

Entrecote is a French word for premium cut of beef used for steaks, which corresponds to what we know as rib eye steak. L'Entrecote opened its first outlet at Duxton hill, featuring only one main course and numerous starters and desserts to complete the meal.    L'Entrecote opened its second outlet at Suntec City Mall in September 2013, but I have not had the chance to dine there until today. Taking advantage of it's Lunch Special menu, I decided to give it a try.        I am not much of a salad person. I know it's healthy, but I really don't see what's the fun in chomping on raw vegetables like a rabbit. This is supposed to be Walnut Green Salad, but I can hardly see any walnuts. The balsamic vinegar dressing used is too pungent, I would think some extra-virgin olive oil would be better suited for this salad.     This is the famous Entrecote Steak & Fries. If a restaurant can flourish with just this one main course, I am expecting that this s...

The Manhattan Fish Market (Suntec City) - Truly Disappointing

I have dined here with my ex-boyfriend a few months ago and it was horrible. I vowed never to visit The Manhattan Fish Market ever again, but I am out with Doctor Chong and two of my colleague, one of which don't eat beef and pork. That limits our choice to basically ... nothing. This is one of the few options we are left with, so I decided to go along with it. I shouldn't condemn a restaurant based on just one bad experience, perhaps that is only because it was lunch hour and the restaurant is short-staffed?     Soup of The Day tastes like it came straight out of a canned soup. It is tasteless and watery.     I remember that I ordered Mediterranean Baked Fish, so why is my fish "swimming" in garlic and herb sauce? Shouldn't baked fish be dry? Garlic Herb Rice is distasteful, both in appearance and in taste. It tastes like the rice was just fried with salt, and the rice is so hard I had a difficult time swallowing. I can't and I shall not generalise the qualit...

The Soup Spoon (Suntec City)

After the renovation at Suntec City Mall, one of the new restaurants that joined the food scene is The Soup Spoon.      Boston Clam Chowder   is a creamy soup that has so many pieces of potato, I would have thought it was potato soup instead. It does taste like clam chowder, but I do wish they can throw in a few pieces of clam inside to make it taste more real.     Pumpkin Soup   is just about the most disgusting thing I have ever drunk, and my colleagues all agree with me. I don't know if it is our Asian palate is not suited to a taste but it tasted awful.      Velvety Mushroom Stroganoff   is my favourite soup so far. I like that the soup is thick and slightly creamy, the soup is filled with chunks of real mushroom.    Just a soup with a freshly-made bread can make a healthy and delicious lunch. Besides soups, the restaurant also serves sandwiches, wraps and salads.    Please the address, opening hours and tele...

Keisuke Tokyo

After having eaten such good food at   Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King   and   Gyoza King , I have decided to try out all six Keisuke outlets. I was wondering around Suntec City looking for food during lunch time when I saw Keisuke Tokyo.      Following the tradition across all Keisuke restaurants, Keisuke Tokyo also provides free-flow bean sprouts.     Keisuke Tokyo is famous for its Crab Stock Ramen, so I ordered Crab Stock Ramen Special but I forgot that it already includes flavoured egg and I ordered another flavoured egg. I certainly don't mind since I love to eat Japanese flavoured egg. The stock is thick, but with a strong taste of the sea. It can be a little overpowering for those who are used to thinner broths.     The chasyu here is very chewy and not as marinated.     The noodles used are the thick and flat noodles normally used in Kitakata ramen. Since the restaurant is named Keisuke Tokyo, I thought they would use the ...

Nuvo - Italian-Japanese Fusion Restaurant

Nuvo is a contemporary restaurant that serves Italian food with strong Japanese influence. Both my doctors are avid food-lovers and both of them have been singing praises of this restaurant which made me really curious about the restaurant that opened not too long ago at Marina Sqaure.      The draw of Nuvo is really this $15 Set Lunch. Can you imagine spending just $15 and you get to enjoy a three-course Italian-Japanese fusion cuisine?!     We were served breadsticks with butter. The breadsticks are warm and delicious.     The flower-shaped butter is served in a teardrop-shaped saucer.     We ordered a Nuvo Tea to share. It is basically just iced lemon tea, but the good thing is that is not overly sweet and the taste is well-balanced.     Mugi Cha Smoked Salmon is an interesting dish served in an interesting design. Smoked salmon is sprinkled with furikake (dry Japanese seasoning) and served with wasabi cream, resting on a piece o...

The Marshmallow Tree

My financial planner, who is staying at Telok Blangah area, told me about this sweet little cafe that has sprung up recently and I went to check it out.     Here I am at The Marshmallow Tree. It is easily accessible with bus stop and Telok Blangah MRT station just 5 minutes away.       The moment you enter the cafe, you will see the wooden swing seats. It will be so nice to read a book while seated there, or enjoy some quality time with a loved one.     Bigger groups can seat here, with comfortable seats all around, everyone can enjoy a good time.     I like the lamp at the corner. It lends a little old world charm to the place.     The lights above the communal table gives off a soft glow, making the whole place a cozy feel.      The communal table is made of wood and has a very pretty pattern.          All the food items have very cute names.     All coffees and hot chocolate drink...

Marche Movenpick (Suntec City)

Marche is one of my favourite restaurants, it is almost like comfort food to me. I love the cooked-upon-order freshness, I love watching as my food as it gets prepared, I love the diversity of the food. I patronize the Marche at VivoCity regularly and I will never get sick of it (with such a diverse menu, it is really quite hard to get sick of it).    Imagine my happiness when I found out that Marche has opened a new outlet at Suntec City. Now I can have my favourite Marche whenever I want.        I thought I will try a clear soup for a change, so I had this Oxtail Soup. It is a very generous serving, with five pieces of oxtail. The oxtail is very tender, clinging onto bones filled with delicious bone marrow. The soup is clear but flavourful with vegetables.      Rosti is a world-famous Swiss speciality which is a pancake made from grated potatoes. A scoop of sour cream helps to combat the oiliness. Add a few sausages and it can be a meal of ...
