Sik Bao Sin - Cantonese-Style Zi Char in Air-Conditioned Setting

"Sik Bao Sin" is a Cantonese phrase which means "Eat Full First" when translated directly into English, but the English name of this restaurant is "Desmond's Creation". This restaurant is helmed by two brothers, Desmond is in charge of wok-fried dishes while Steve take care of the steamed dishes. With many years of experience working in the parents' restaurant "Sik Wai Sin", "Desmond's Creation" offers tasty Cantonese-style zi char in air-conditioned setting.           There are only 13 dishes on the menu which is good because a small menu allows the chef to put more emphasis on the quality of the food.      Personally I am not a fan of bittergourd so I can't say how good the dish Bittergourd with Pork Rib is but the bittergourd are well-cooked because it is neither too soft or too hard.     Steam Fish Head, cooked with fermented soy bean paste sauce and lard croutons, enhances the freshness of the carp head.        T...

Max Brenner Chocolate Bar (Esplanade Mall)

I am here, at Max Brenner Chocolate Bar, in my quest to try out all the churros there is in Singapore. Max Brenner Chocolate Bar sounds interesting ... and delicious. This is THE place for chocolate lovers.             Italian Thick Hot Chocolate  is a thick hot chocolate with vanilla cream. You have a choice of dark, white or milk chocolate. I went with the milk chocolate and I am very happy with my choice. This is definitely THE BEST hot chocolate I have ever had. It's almost as if I am drinking melted chocolate, with vanilla cream to enhance the creaminess.     This is my main reason for coming to this restaurant: Crystal Sugar Churros Fondue, which is served with muddled raspberries and a choice of two dips: pure dark, milk or white chocolate. I was given pure dark and milk chocolate probably because I opted for milk chocolate for the hot chocolate. I like that, initiative from staff.   This is definitely the place for THE BEST ...

Salted Caramel Artisan Ice Cream

After a hearty meal at   Badoque , end your meal on a sweet note with an ice-cream from Salted Caramel Artisan Ice Cream.     Just two shops down from   Badoque   is Salted Caramel Artisan Ice-Cream.     I totally agree with what is said here. Ice-cream is happiness.     I was too full from the huge portions served at   Badoque , so I had a Strawberry Sorbet which is a little too sweet for my taste, but then sorbets are meant to be sweet.   I would really like to go back and try their other ice-creams such as Salted Caramel, which I believe should be the signature flavour since it is the name of the shop.   Salted Caramel Address: 246F Upper Thomson Road Telephone: 67531718 Email: hello@saltedcaramel.sg Opening Hours: Sunday - Thursday 12pm - 11pm; Public Holiday Eve, Friday - Saturday 12pm - 2am

Badoque (Upper Thomson)

Having a Muslim as a best friend (yes, Mariem, that's you) means that I am constantly on the lookout for good halal restaurants. I have read very good reviews on Badoque and Mariem herself has commented about the huge portions and excellent food, making ever the more curious about this eatery. However, the first outlet at Simpang Bedok is simply too out of the way and I was elated when they finally opened another outlet at Upper Thomson.       Doesn't the name of this drink, Iced Salted Caramel, just sound so delicious? It is every bit as delicious as it sound. Thick melted vanilla ice-cream with whipped cream and caramel sauce. Heavenly.     The Blue Oyster is highly-recommended by Mariem and she is right. It is delicious. Plump and juicy oysters are breaded and deep-fried till a brilliant rich golden color. Have them piping hot, dipped in mayonnaise. The taste of the sea and richness of mayonnaise will explode in your mouth. It is almost as good as the   ...

GRUB - Bistro-Cafe in Bishan Park

Thanks to my dear friend Mariem with her current obsession with churros, I dropped by GRUB when I was in the area, just to try their churros.     Nestled among the floral and greenery of Bishan Park is this bistro-cafe which serves food cooked using fresh ingredients without monosodium glatamate (MSG), artificial preservatives, additives or flavourings.       This is what I am here for - Churros. It comes with two sauces, dark chocolate and tangy creme anglaise. The churros is thicker with a soft centre. Have it with dark chocolate sauce for a touch of luxury while the tangy creme anglaise will wake up your tastebuds.    Io   This Hainanses Pork Chop Burger looks interesting. I shall try this the next time I visit GRUB.      Homemade Cakes sound delicious. I will have a slice the next time I visit GRUB.   There is so much more than Churros at Grub. There is a good selection of appetizers, mains and desserts. This is the pe...

Xiang Signature 湘香厨房

Chinese cuisine in Singapore are mainly derived from dishes brought over by early Southern Chinese immigrants such as Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese, Hakka and Hainanese. Today, let me introduce to you a restaurant that serves the less-known Hunan cuisine.   Wikipedia's explanation of Hunan cuisine is " Hunan cuisine , also known as  Xiang cuisine , consists of the cuisines of the  Xiang River  region,  Dongting Lake , and western  Hunan  province in China. It is one of the Eight Great Traditions of  Chinese cuisine  and is well known for its hot spicy flavour, fresh aroma and deep colour. Common cooking techniques include  stewing ,  frying , pot- roasting ,  braising , and  smoking . Due to the high agricultural output of the region, ingredients for Hunan dishes are many and varied." I could not have described it any better.         Fresh Fungus 爽口黑木耳 is a cold dish made of fresh black fungus with minced...

The Line at Shangri-La Hotel

Located at level one of the famous five-star Shangri-La Hotel, The Line boasts an international buffet featuring 16 theatre kitchens. It has garnered many praises and many swear it is one of  the best international buffet in Singapore.   I have always wanted to dine at The Line but the heavy price tag makes it almost impossible for a salaried worker like myself, until The Line held a promotion in conjunction with The Line's 10th Year Anniversary where those born in March dine for free. Stella wasted no time in rallying up two more friends and the four of us had a delightful lunch at The Line.     Appetizers features an assortment of cold dishes.       Cooked Foods Kitchen feature dishes such as Nasi Goreng,  Laksa, The Line Club Sandwich, Beer Battered Crisp Cod Fillet served with Tartar sauce and Aloo Gobhi.      There is a Bread Kitchen and DIY Salad Kitchen. The breads are all freshly-baked and the DIY Salad Station is fully-stoc...
