The Line at Shangri-La Hotel

Located at level one of the famous five-star Shangri-La Hotel, The Line boasts an international buffet featuring 16 theatre kitchens. It has garnered many praises and many swear it is one of the best international buffet in Singapore.

I have always wanted to dine at The Line but the heavy price tag makes it almost impossible for a salaried worker like myself, until The Line held a promotion in conjunction with The Line's 10th Year Anniversary where those born in March dine for free. Stella wasted no time in rallying up two more friends and the four of us had a delightful lunch at The Line.

Appetizers features an assortment of cold dishes.

Cooked Foods Kitchen feature dishes such as Nasi Goreng,  Laksa, The Line Club Sandwich, Beer Battered Crisp Cod Fillet served with Tartar sauce and Aloo Gobhi.

There is a Bread Kitchen and DIY Salad Kitchen. The breads are all freshly-baked and the DIY Salad Station is fully-stocked with fresh vegetables and every possible sauce you can think of. Of course, if you are too lazy to customize your salad like I am, there are ready-to-eat salads too.

I was a little surprised because not many international buffets has a station dedicated to Chinese Dim Sum. The dim sums are very fresh and kept steamed in traditional bamboo baskets.

Fruits are fresh with no sign of oxidation. In the smaller bowls, there are dried fruits such as dried apricots and dried mango.

Japanese Kitchen is one of the most popular stations, serving fresh sushi, shashimi, soba and udon upon order.

Western Kitchen serves a mean roasted beef (I am guessing the doneness to be medium or medium-rare) that is tender and juicy.

At the Mexican Kitchen, there are tortilla chips and dips.

There are satays and pratas at the Indian Kitchen.

The star of The Line buffet is the Seafood Kitchen with a glorious spread of freshly-shucked oysters, crabs, prawns, mussels, baby lobsters and clams.

The other star attraction has to be the Deserts Kitchen which comprises two glass towers lined with desserts such as Classic Vanilla Creme Brûlée, Sugar-free Mango Yoghurt Terrine served with Berries and Mint and New York Cheese Cake served with Fresh Strawberries. There is a good assortment of Macarons which is said to be one of the best that you can find in Singapore and a small selection of Malay kuehs.

If the desserts alone is not enough to satisfy your sweet tooth, there is also more than 10 flavors of gelato to choose from.

It is quite a bit of money to spend on a buffet but it is worth every dime. Do keep a lookout for the occasional dining promotions which are unfortunately quite rare . Impeccable service, excellent quality and variety of food and great ambience makes dining at The Line an amazing experience.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

O'ma Spoon

Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
