My Dining Room 尚苑

My Dining Room is a Singapore-based Cantonese restaurant that took up residence in Suntec City after the six-month renovation.  Besides the usual Cantonese dishes, My Dining Room also has a detectable selection of dim sum, which I have been dying to try.

I agree that they are rather generous with the crab roe and the ingredients, but there's nothing special about Steamed Siew Mai with Crab Roe 蟹黄蒸烧卖 in terms of taste.

My doctor once told me the quality of har  gow lies in whether whole shrimps or minced shrimps are used and I am happy to note that Steamed Shrimp Dumpling 尚苑鲜虾饺 are packed with whole shrimps but the shrimps are not as juicy as Joyden Canton Kitchen's Steamed Imperial Prawn Dumpling "Har Gao"

Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken in Lotus Leaf 珍珠糯米鸡 is satisfyingly oily. The chicken and glutinous rice are well-marinated and tastes great together.

Steamed Crystal Dumpling 水晶风车饺 is a vegetarian dumpling that is so pretty, I almost couldn't bear to eat it. Chopped vegetables and mushroom are wrapped in rice flour skin and steamed until the skin turns transparent. The dumpling is delightfully light on the palate.

I love the presentation of Deep Fried Prawn Fritter 龙须凤尾虾 and the wrapping of vermicelli before deep-frying which gives it additional crispness. Dip it in the provided mayonnaise sauce for a snack that will have you munching non-stop.

Deep Fried Beancurd Skin Roll with Prawn 鲜虾腐皮卷 is very similar to the Deep Fried Prawn Fritter but this time the prawns are wrapped in beancurd skin. The beancurd skin balloons when fried, resulting in a crispy puff filled with chopped prawns.

The addition of waxed meat in Carrot Cake with Waxed Meat (Pan Fried) 腊味萝卜糕 (香煎)gives the otherwise dull carrot cake a much needed boost in terms of taste. The carrot cake itself is very smooth, but I personally prefer those made with hand-chopped carrot cake which has more bite.

Baked Barbecued Pork Bun with Butter 雪山叉烧包 is a replica of Tim Ho Wan's Baked Bun with BBQ Pork, but I personally feels that Tim Ho Wan does a better job. Tim Ho Wan's Baked Bun with BBQ Pork are consistent in size and I adore the buttery pastry skin.

Crispy Mini Egg Tart 酥皮蛋挞仔 look really cute, but that's about all there is to these small pastries. In terms of taste, they can't even compare to the ones I get from regular bakeries.

Despite the promising decorations, the dim sum were not that great although they do cost much more than Tim Ho Wanor Swee Choon Tim-Sum Restaurant. If you are looking for a restaurant with great ambiance, My Dining Room is a good choice, but you will be somewhat disappointed if you are looking for good dim sum at affordable prices.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

O'ma Spoon

Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
