Simply Wrapps (JEM)

I was running an errand in JEM and I was hungry, I was looking for a place to have a simple breakfast when the   colourfully-decorated   Simply Wraps caught my eye. I was looking for something   simple , and this shop has the word "Simply " in its   name, I am sold.        There   are   a special Breakfast and Tea-Break menu that consists of a wrap or quesadilla and you add $2   for hot drinks, which makes the most expensive meal on the menu $8.90. I think it's a great deal, and that's what I shall have.       There are more than 50 topping and 18 dressings for you to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice.       I have always loved quesadillas with the cheesy filling and smokiness, but I wanted something lighter for breakfast, so I ordered   Mango Chicken Quesadilla   where marinated chicken pieces, egg, tomato, cucumber and mayonnaise are held together by cheddar cheese, enveloped...

Olivia & Co.

After the renovation works at Suntec City was completed, new tenants moved in and one of them is Olivia & Co., which took up residence at the area in between tower 1 and 2.    Olivia & Co. is named after a fictional character called Olivia who loves to   travel ,   and she incorporates her worldly experiences at Olivia.      The kitchen and retail shop is housed in a regular shop space while the main dining area is housed in the atrium, where you get a great view of the shopping mall as you have your meal.    Olivia & Co. offers chicken wings done in 5 different   flavours: Hanoi Wing, Seoul Wings, Lousiana Wings,   Tokyo   Wings and Bangkok Wings, available in 6pcs and 12pcs. We were recommended   Hanoi Wings   which is light and refreshing with its blend of fish sauce, lime juice and garlic.    The Cheeses   is Olivia & Co.'s signature burger and it is a giant of juicy beef patt...

Happy Mookata

I have always loved steamboat and barbecue, where can I can cook the food to my own liking. All-you-can-eat steamboat and barbecue buffets are a godsend for big eaters like me where we can eat as much as we want without breaking the bank. There was Chinese steamboat, Japanese steamboat, Korean barbecue and now we have   a Thai   barbecue steamboat called Mookata.     The restaurant is clean, but there is only alfresco sitting available. It can get really hot as the meal progressed, so come armed with thin comfortable clothes and cool down with homemade Thai Ice Milk Tea and Thai Ice Lemon Tea.     Tick the ingredients that you want in this order form and the ingredients will be prepared upon order and delivered to you in stackable trays. The 28 ingredients available include meat, seafood, vegetable and popular steamboat   favourites   such as crabstick, fishball, egg   tofu   and   a fresh   egg.    If you are hungry ...

Jollibee (Square 2)

Jollibee   was founded by Tony Tan and his family with humble beginnings as an ice-cream   parlour . Jollibee has since grown to become the largest   fast-food   chain in the Philippines with over 750 outlets all around the country. The company has embarked on an aggressive international plan in USA, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Brunei and Singapore.    Technically, Jollibee is not a restaurant, it is a fast-food restaurant from   the Philippines   that is famous for its fried chicken, so it's not my really of   speciality, but this fast-food restaurant has been attracting throngs of people since its first day of opening at Lucky Plaza, and this phenomenon continues at its second outlet at Square 2.  I am going to find out what makes this fast food restaurant so special.      I ordered the   2-pcs Chickenjoy   with a mixture of original and spicy. To tell you the truth, I am not very impressed. Sure, the chicken...

Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen (Novena Square 2) - Theatrical Volcano Ramen

Tonkotsu   Kazan Ramen has been voted as one of the best   ramen   in Singapore by well-known food blogger ladyironchef, which is reason enough to make me want to try it out.       This is the correct way of cooking the delicious   Kazan   ramen (taken from their website).        I was recommended   Kazan Kaisen-Shio   where   the specially   blended salt paste is added to the   tonkotsu broth, giving the broth a lighter taste. There are plenty of vegetables such as cabbage, carrots leeks and bean sprouts. My only   complaint   is that the noodles are slightly soggy, but   otherwise, this ramen is definitely the best thing to have on a cold and rainy day because the soup is kept warm throughout the meal. I am supposed to add rice to the leftover soup to make   zousui   (soupy rice) but I think the waitress forgot to give me my rice.    Besides Kazan Kaisen-Shio, t...

NeNe Chicken

Established in 1999 in South Korea, NeNe Chicken has become a popular fried chicken brand and it has a strong presence in Singapore with 7 outlets islandwide.  I was running an errand in The Star Vista area and I was craving for some Korean fried chicken. I did a search and I found out that Nene Chicken has an outlet at The Star Vista. I went searching for it and I found it in a corner.     The Star Vista outlet is a cosy little shop with warm lighting. There are not many seats so be sure to arrive early to avoid the crowds.     There are three   flavours   to choose   from   Swicy (I am guessing it means sweet + spicy), Freaking Hot and Soy; or you can opt to get the Honey Mustard Dip or Cheese Dip (+$1). I ordered the Classic 4pcs  with Soy   flavour. The soy sauce has a good balance of sweet and salty, but the fried chicken itself is dry and tasteless.   Besides fried chicken and tenders, NeNe Chicken also serves Bap Burger ...

Sembawang Traditional Claypot Rice

Sembawang Traditional Claypot Rice is a family business run by Don Giam, his wife, Doris Wu and his son, Adrian Giam.  This humble restaurant is barely 2 years old and it's already drawing in the crowds with its mouthwatering dishes.      Traditional Claypot Rice 原味沙煲饭   is one of the signature dishes here. Cooked in the traditional way with premium raw rice, chicken, salted fish, Chinese sausage, vegetables and their special recipe made using 10 spices and herbs, cooked over a charcoal stove. Stir in the dark soy sauce and sesame oil, and you have a bowl of fragrant Claypot rice that is a meal by itself.    San Lou Bee Hoon 三楼米粉 is another of the restaurant's signature dish.    Salted Fish, Minced Meat Bean Curd 咸鱼肉碎豆腐   If you thought   Deep Fried Salted Egg Bitter Gourd 咸蛋苦瓜   will make eating bitter gourd a less painful experience, you are in for a surprise. Although the sliced bitter gourd has been deep fried and co...

Melben Seafood (Ang Mo Kio)

Mellben Seafood was founded by Melvin Soon in 1979. Over the years, Mellben Seafood has expanded into   a 3-outlet   family business that is well-known in Singapore.    Let's go and check out what is so special about this Mellben Seafood.       Mellben Seafood is renowned for its  Claypot Crab Bee Hoon Soup  so we ordered a portion with additional soup and bee hoon (it is so popular that additional soup and bee hoon is limited to one portion per table). Now I finally understand why this dish is so popular. The creamy soup has a distinctive crab taste that   goes   so well with the springy thick bee hoon. It is totally slurp-worthy     I was really looking forward to trying out their famous Salted Egg Crab but we were told that Salted Egg Crab is a dry dish and there is not much sauce, so we decided to get  Golden Sand Crab  instead. We opted for a male crab, which is said to have more meat but does not hav...
