Eat at Seven: Menya Takeichi - Best Chicken Ramen is Here at Suntec City

Eat at Seven at level 3 of Suntec City Mall features 7 of Japan's best and trending specialist concept restaurants is  brought into Singapore by Global Retail Partners, a joint venture by ANA Trading, Komars Group and local restaurateur Mr Andrew Tan who owns Tomo F&B Group. Japanese cuisine is one of my favourite cuisines, so I am going to dedicate the whole of December to the review of these 7 restaurants.    Let's start with my favourite food, ramen, at Menya Takeichi.        Menya Takeichi is famous for their signature Chicken Paitan Ramen   where the collagen-rich chicken broth is made by simmering 9kg of chicken meat and chicken feet over 10 hours. The luxuriously thick and creamy   chicken broth is  paired with medium thin ramen noodles that   has   lower water content, pieces of chicken meat that is suspiciously over-crunchy and handmade chicken balls. There are 4 options to choose   from   Special Ramen, ...

The Butcher's Kitchen

The rental at Suntec City Mall has once again proven to be too expensive and the Italian restaurant, Boturra, that served some amazing pasta and pizzas, has closed down.    The Butcher's Kitchen took over the spot and the concept is so similar, I won't be surprised if both restaurants are managed by the same people.    Let's go and try out this new restaurant.        There is a big ice-cream counter displaying more than 20 flavours of ice-cream. Flavours range from the classic Vanilla, Green Tea and Hazelnut flavours to the more adventurous Gula Melaka and Thai Milk Tea  flavours.   As opening specials, The Butcher's Kitchen is rolling out two lunch set menus. $9.80 nett set consists of the restaurant's signature Butcher's Burger Dog (choice of lamb, pork or beef) accompanied by either fries or mixed rocket salad; $15 nett set consists of a pasta or pizza (pasta: basil pesto, carbonara, Aglio olio; pizza: margarita, Hawaiian, salami) acc...

The Caravan

The Caravan is the food truck version of Simple Eats, a series of concept restaurants focused on introducing authentic Thai cuisine to Singapore.           Most Singaporeans are familiar with Thai milk tea and The Caravan's   Thai Iced Tea  is very sweet and creamy.     You can choose egg noodles, thin rice noodles and bee hoon noodles when it comes to the noodle dishes. I was recommended to have thin rice noodles to go with my   Stewed Beef Noodles . Thin rice noodle is thinner and chewier than the "guo tiao" Singaporeans are familiar. It goes very well with the stewed beef which is very tender and the flavorful beef broth.    I was really looking forward to having   Pad Thai with Chicken , but I am rather disappointed. The Caravan's version is really dry. Everything from the noodles to the dried shrimps is dry. It's either they forgot to give me the soup or I have been eaten unauthentic pad thai all this while.  ...

WHEAT

WHEAT, originally known as Wheat Baumkuchen, started off as a speciality shop in Toa Payoh that sells locally-made Baumkuchen alongside soba and brown rice. The soba and brown rice dishes were so well-received that they have decided to re-brand themselves as WHEAT, offering affordable soba, brown rice and salad sets at 5 locations in Singapore.    I didn't know that WHEAT had recently opened a new outlet at the basement of Raffles City Shopping Centre until my colleague told me repeatedly to try out a new restaurant that sells "very nice set meals". Intrigued, I followed her to lunch one day and there it is WHEAT.        The menu consists of soba, brown rice and salad meals, served in 100% biodegradable sugar cane fibre boxes.  The dishes are given cute animal names, but the names mostly don't correspond with what is being served.      Salmon   is the most popular dish at WHEAT. Green soba is served with a piece of grilled salmon an...

Guo Fu Steamboat

Guo Fu Steamboat has been operating in Singapore since 2005, bringing authentic fat cow (premium beef) Northeast China steamboat to Singaporeans.     This is what we will be having today: Ala Carte Hotpot Buffet. There are over 50 raw ingredients to choose from.      There   is   10 type of soup bases to choose from. You can opt for mini personal pots but I highly recommend getting the "yuan-yang pot" where you can select two soup bases. Please note that the soup bases are not included in the ala carte buffet and you have to top-up the charges for the soup bases separately.    There are over 10 types of sauces available. You can mix and match to create your own speciality sauce. Must-have China   steamboat   sauces such as sesame paste are also available.      All the ingredients are prepared fresh upon order, you can be assured of I quality. The highlight is, of course, the Sliced Special Beef which is ma...
