Forty Hands - Good Coffee and Good Food

 Forty Hands

Forty Hands is the founder of the Third Wave Coffee movement and I have always wanted to visit this cafe, but never got the chance to, until today.

Founded by the people behind Harry Grover and Spa Esprit Group, Forty Hands offers speciality coffee that is brewed from fresh beans from sustainable sources.

The interior of Forty Hands is decorated to look like an old-fashioned coffee shop with tiled walls and wooden tables and stools.

Forty Hands - Menu

Forty Hands offers a decent menu of foods, such as All Day Breakfast, Toasties, Salads, Night Dogs and Other Things. The drinks menu is decided into coffee (Black, White, Chocolate, Iced, Cold Brew, Teas) and non-coffee (Juice, Booze, Sodas, Water).

Forty Hands - Cold Brew

It feels wrong to go to a cafe that brought about the Third Wave Coffee and not have at least one cup of coffee, so I ordered a cup of Cold Brew [$7]. Even as a non-coffee drinker, I can smell the fragrance and taste the smoothness of the coffee.

Forty Hands - Tau Sar Pau

Forty Hands claims that this is the best red bean bun in Singapore so I got one of the Tau Sar Pau[$2.50] to try. It comes in a flat round shape instead of the round shape that most Singaporeans are used to. The dough is soft and fluffy with red bean paste that is fragrant yet not too sweet. This is definitely one of the better tau sar pau I have had, but I can't comment if this is indeed the best in Singapore.

Forty Hands - Banana Bacon French Toast
The moment I saw Banana Bacon French Toast [$18] on the menu, I knew I was going to order it. I love caramelised bananas, bacon and maple syrup and this dish manages to combine these three things perfectly. Streaky bacon and caramelised bananas are served on top of a slice of French toast brioche, a good dose of maple syrup and icing sugar. As my colleague says, "This is heaven!"

Forty Hands - Eggs Cocotte

Eggs Cocotte [$18] has everything that a healthy breakfast should include: free-range poached eggs for protein, sautéed spinach for vitamins and minerals, homemade pepita toast for carbohydrates, served with portobello mushrooms, mushroom puree and truffle oil for taste. Not only is this healthy, but it is delicious to boot as well.

Forty Hands not only excels in brewing coffees from fresh and sustainably-sourced coffee beans, but the food items at Forty Hands also do not disappoint as well. If only Forty Hands were not so hidden in the Tiong Bahru estate, but I guess that is what makes it a hidden gem. People living in the Tiong Bahru, you guys are so lucky, but then I can always order delivery with Ubereats and Deliveroo.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

O'ma Spoon

Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
