Saap Saap Thai - Halal Thai in Changi Airport Terminal 3

Gone are the days when halal restaurants only serve Malay food, there are now halal versions of many cuisines. The Ramen Stall serves halal Japanese, Waker X Oppa and Jinjja Chicken serves halal Korean, just to name a few.    This time we chose Saap Saap Thai, a restaurant in Changi Airport because we wanted to check out the new Jewel Changi Airport.    Saap Saap Thai is one of the stalls housed in the dining cluster at basement 2 of Changi Airport Terminal 3.      You can’t miss its cheerful yellow design, which really lifts one’s mood.      The menu consists of chicken or beef noodles or rice, tom yum soups, glass noodles salads and Thai beverages.      This is the   Signature Australian Beef Boat Noodle   [S$7.90]. The broth is flavorful with a robust beefy goodness. The glass noodles are cooked just right, not too hard with a nice chewy texture. The glass noodles are accompanied by beef slices and beef balls ...

Mahota Pantry - Healthy Chinese Restaurant in Kitchener Complex

I was meeting a primary school friend who was working in Lavender. She has been telling about all the interesting restaurants around her workplace which really quipped my curiosity. We decided to meet at Lavender and check out the restaurants she has been telling me about.      Mahota Commune is an healthy lifestyle community that occupies the whole third floor of Kitchener Complex. Mahota Commune is made up of Mahota Kitchen, Mahota Pantry, Mahota Clinic, Mahota Life, Mahota Farm and Mahota Preschool.      We were trying to decide between Mahota Pantry and Mahota Kitchen and this poster made us choose Mahota Pantry. The Mahota Organic Hotpot Set looked really good and it is supposed to be organic, natural and seasonal. Sounds good, Mahota Pantry it is then.      Besides hotpot, Mahota Pantry also offers steamed rice, noodles and rice, double boiled soups, side dishes and beverages. You can find Mahota Pantry’s full menu   here .  ...

Dong Bei Ren Jia 东北人家 - Another Northeastern Chinese Restaurant

Located just a few shops away from   Dong Bei Xiao Chu 东北小厨   opposite Hong Lim Complex, there is another restaurant named Dong Bei Ren Jia 东北人家. This restaurant also specialises in Northeastern Chinese cuisine and judging from its menu, most of the dishes are the same.    Dong Bei Ren Jia 东北人家 is much more popular than   Dong Bei Xiao Chu 东北小厨. There is always a long queue whenever I visited and you may have to wait for more than an hour on weekends.    I decided to try out Dong Bei Ren Jia 东北人家 for myself and see if it is really better than   Dong Bei Xiao Chu东北小厨.     There is ample seating at Dong Bei Ren Jia 东北人家 with seats on both the first floor and second floor. The red wooden tables are accompanied by red cloth chairs that lends a spot of colour to the restaurant.      Dong Bei Ren Jia 东北人家 has most of the Northeastern Chinese dishes. There are cold dishes (凉菜), stir-fried dishes (炒菜), seafood dishes...

Alfa Cafe - Famous Fish Soup Stall in Lucky Plaza

I was roaming in Lucky Plaza one day, looking for good food when I spotted this standalone stall selling fish soup. I always believe that if a stall can become its own business, they must be doing something right.      Alfa Cafe primarily sells fish soup. There are 4 mains - Sliced Fish Soup, Fried Fish Soup, Fish Head Soup and Mixed Fish Soup.      You can add rice/thick bee hoon/thin bee hoon/kway teow/claypot mee/mee hoon kway/mee sua/instant noodles at $0.70 each.    You can also opt to add extra ingredients such as additional fish ($2), tom yam/milk ($0.50), bitter gourd ($0.50), pig liver ($1) and fish ball ($1).       I ordered their   Mixed Fish Soup   [$6] with additional milk (+$0.50). The broth is very flavorful and the additional milk gives it a slight creaminess. The sliced fish does not have that weird artificial taste so I believe the fish were freshly-cut and not soaked in alkaline water. The fried fish are...
