Ban Heng - All You Can Eat Ala Carte Lunch/Dinner Buffet

Although I am Chinese and I frequently patronize Chinese restaurants, I am not very familiar with Cantonese and Teochew cuisine.   The only few Cantonese restaurants I have been to are   Moi Lum,   Sik Bao Sin   and   Red Star Restaurant, many of which were introduced to me by my ex-colleagues.  It has been a while since I last met up with my ex-colleagues. It was one of my ex-colleague’s birthday so we decided to meet and do some catching-up.   The birthday girl decided on going to Ban Heng, which is located on 11 floor in Orchard Central. I rarely venture up past level 3 of Orchard Central, I would never have guessed that there are shops on the 11th floor, let alone a Chinese restaurant.  Ban Heng has been in operation in Singapore since 1972, which means it has over 40 years of history. There are altogether 5 Ban Heng outlets in Singapore -   HabourFront Centre ,   Orchid Country Club ,   Aranda Country Club ,   Orchard Cent...

Da Miao Hot Pot 大妙火锅 - Authentic Sichuan Style Hot Pot

It has been quite a while since I had had hotpot, so my girlfriend brought me to a Sichuan hotpot restaurant that her friend highly-recommended.  Da Miao Hot Pot originated from Wang Jiang riverside in Sichuan. It is managed by Biezhi Enterprise Management Ltd., an established restaurant chain operator in China. Since its establishment in 2007, Da Miao Hot Pot has earned its spot as a reputed restaurant chain. There are now 10 outlets in China and the Singapore outlet is their first overseas outlet.  Considering Da Miao Hot Pot originated from Wang Jiang riverside in Sichuan, it is not surprising that Da Miao Hot Pot chose to have its first overseas flagship restaurant in Clark Quay. Clark Quay's vibrant mix of international cuisines will it easier for Da Miao Hot Pot to penetrate the Singapore food scene.  Located in Block C of Clark Quay, you can’t miss Da Miao Hot Pot with its bright red logo that I presume depicts the fiery red mala soup base that Sichuan is kn...

Gangnam Corndog - The Only Place in Singapore for Korean Corndog

I kept seeing people doing mukbang eating corndogs recently and it got me interested in this Korean street food that is still largely unknown in Singapore. According to Google, there are two places where you can get corndogs in Singapore, Gangnam Corndog and WhatThe Corndog. Seeing how popular the post " 7 Restaurants to Have Jajangmyeon and Tangsuyuk in Singapore" was, I thought it might be interesting to do another one on corndogs.  Alas, when I reached where WhatThe Corndog is supposed to be at (Tampines MRT), I realised that WhatThe Corndog has already closed down. Even the posts on their Facebook page was lasted dated November 2017.  That means Gangnam Corndog is the only place in Singapore where you can get corndogs. Let’s check it out.  Gangnam Corndog is located at the riverside entrance just beside my favorite Azabu Sabo ice-cream. It is a little hidden from view but that doesn’t stop Singaporeans from flocking to it.  Gangnam Corndog sells corndogs, twist p...

Toss & Turn by Cedele - New Salad Shop at Paragon Basement

I have been tasked by my colleague to try out the new salad shop called Toss & Turn.  Created by the people behind Cedele, Toss & Turn serves salads, sandwiches, gourmet thins and wraps, soups, smoothie bowls and smoothie drinks.  The brightly-lit shop has a long white communal table in the middle and low tables for groups. Two long counter-top tables frames the shops and also acts as eating areas.  You can design your own cold/warm salad bowl. For S$11, the cold salad bowl comes with 1 base, 2 cold proteins, 4 toppings and 1 dressing. The warm salad bowl comes with 1 base, 1 warm protein, 4 toppings and 1 dressing for the same price. Extra base/protein costs S$1, every extra topping is S$1 each while premium toppings cost an extra S$1.  [caption id="attachment_1988" align="aligncenter" width="4032"] Keto Friendly[/caption][caption id="attachment_1991" align="aligncenter" width="4032"] Ocean Catch[/caption] If you ar...

Tamoya Udon & Tempura - Freshly-Made Sanuki Udon & Tempura

Just as Golden Mile Complex is known as "Little Thailand" and Lucky Plaza is known as "Little Philippines", Liang Court is known to many Singaporeans as "Little Japan". Liang Court is home to Meidi-ya Supermarket, Singapore's only Japanese supermarket (that is, before Don Don Donki came to Singapore). Liang Court organises many Japanese events and food fairs. Read TheSmartLocal's   10 Reasons Why Liang Court is the closest thing to Japan you can find in Singapore. Liang Court is also host to a large number of Japanese restaurants. If you have problem deciding on where to eat, let me introduce you to a restaurant on level 1 of Liang Court called Tamoya Udon & Tempura.  Tamoya Udon & Tempura hails from the Sanuki prefecture in Japan where they run a successful udon-chain. Tamoya Udon & Tempura in Liang Court is the one and only outlet in Singapore so far, and judging from the huge crowds on weekdays and weekends, I think it is pretty succ...
