Maru Ten Udon - Delicious Handmade Udon in United Square

Maru Ten Udon - Order Counter

I was exploring United Square when I discovered another interesting eatery. It was located at the basement of United Square, diagonally opposite Lap Vietnamese Restaurant. It is a small Japanese restaurant called Maru Ten Udon that only serves curry rice, udon and rice bowl.

The menu is simple with just 10 udons, 6 curry rice and 2 rice bowls to choose from.

Maru Ten Udon - How To Order

Maru Ten Udon is a self-service cafeteria-style restaurant where you order your food and make payment before seating down to eat. Remember to return your tray to the “Return Box” after eating.

Since you are doing everything by yourself, there is no service charge.

Maru Ten Udon - Chicken Cutlet Curry Rice

Chicken Cutlet Curry Rice [Small S$7.90, Regular S$9.90, Large S$11.90] is one of the most popular curry rice dish here. The chicken cutlet is crispy on the outside yet moist and tender on the inside. Aromatic Japanese curry covers fragrant Japanese rice. It’s such a perfect combination of flavors and textures.

Maru Ten Udon - Kake Udon

Kake Udon [Small S$4.90, Regular S$6.90, Large S$8.90] costs only S$2.40 (mini version) with any curry rice.

Kaki udon is a traditional Japanese noodle dish of fresh udon noodles in simple daishi broth. The beauty lies in the simplicity of the dish and the perfection of the ingredients. The sanuki  udon and daishi broth are freshly-made every morning.

Maru Ten Udon uses premium wheat flour to make their sanuki udon characterized by square shape and flat edges with chewy texture.

Maru Ten Udon - Mentai Butter Udon

Mentai Butter Udon [Small S$7.90, Regular S$9.90, Large S$11.90] is the only dry udon on the menu.

Give the udon, melted butter at the bottom and mentaiko sauce a good mix for the best experience. The butter and mentaiko sauce gives the udon a delicate richness that adds to the chewiness of the udon. Even though it does not look like a lot, it is just the right amount for one person.

Maru Ten Udon - Tempura

There is a small selection of tempura which are freshly-fried so they are very crispy.

I love the chewy sanuki udon and daishi stock that Maru Ten Udon makes in-house everyday. The curry rice and tempura are delicious as well.

Maru Ten is also available for delivery from GrabFood, FoodPanda and Deliveroo.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg.                         Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
