D’Life Signature 疏品轩(Square 2) - Contemporary Vegetarian Restaurant

 D'life Signature - Cashier

I have passed by D'life Signature at the basement of Square 2 but I always thought D’life Signature is a just a regular Western restaurant so I didn't have much interest.

I recently learned from my colleague that D'life Signature is actually a vegetarian restaurant. If you know my personally, I am not a fan of vegetarian food. (The last time I had vegetarian food at Real Food was back in 2015.) My colleague kept telling me that the food at D'life Signature is very tasty despite not using any meat. I was a little skeptical but I decided to give it the benefit of doubt and try it out for myself.

D'life Signature - Restaurant Front

Now that I know D'life Signature is a vegetarian restaurant, I started seeing all the telltale signs that I missed before. There is a huge standing signboard at the entrance of the restaurant that clearly states "Healthy Vegetarian" at the top. A circular white and green picture on the wall besides the cashier depicts the Chinese character 素 which is Chinese for vegetarian.

The interior of the restaurant is clean and spacious with white tables and brown chairs that exudes an earthy vibe. You can pick up vegetarian biscuits, snacks and instant noodles when making payment at the cashier.

I thought vegetarian simply means vegetables and tofu but D'life Signature's  extensive menu opened my eyes to the extensive possibilities of vegetarian food.

D'life Signature - Hotplate Tofu

Hot Plate Tofu 铁板豆腐 [S$10.20] is a classic vegetarian dish. Deep-frying the tofu gives the tofu a slightly crispy exterior while the inside remains soft. The sweet and sour sauce that covers the tofu has just a little spiciness that adds an additional layer of flavour.

D'life Signature - Ginger Mee Sua

Ginger Mee Sua 姜蓉面线汤 [S$7.20] is one of the signatures of D'life Signature. Ginger is a superfood with a multitude of benefits such as reducing inflammation and lowering blood sugar. The broth is made by boiling ginger so it is a little spicy. Bok choy and fried tofu accompanies the soft mee sua with ginger strips for an added kick.

D'life Signature - Hokkien Mee

I am amazed how Hokkien Noodle 福建面 [S$6.10] can taste so flavourful without using prawns. The yellow noodles also does not have the strong yeast taste. This vegetarian rendition of the classic Singaporean hawker dish  is simply awesome.

D'life Signature - Fish & Chips

I was curious how the vegetarian version of Fish & Chips 鱼扒 [S$12.10] will taste compared to the actual dish so I ordered one to try. The 'fish fillet' is made from shredded tofu which tastes pretty similar to real fish. Complete with fries and salad, it's a pretty impressive meal.

D'life Signature - Bak Kut Tea

I wanted to see how the vegetarian version of the predominantly meat dish Claypot Bak Kut Tea 砂锅肉骨茶 [Small S$11, Medium S$16, Large S$22] will turn out so I got that as well. I was a little disappointed that it's just a few pieces of 'pork ribs' tofu and some enoki mushroom. The 'pork ribs' are too soft but the broth is pretty tasty with a lingering herbal aftertaste.

D'life Signature creates vegetarian version of local Singapore and Western popular dishes, making vegetarian foods enjoyable to more people.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
