Jin Peng La Mian Xiao Long Bao 鑫鹏拉面小笼包

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao long Bao - Stall Front

I recently discovered a Chinese noodle stall where the portions are huge. It is Jin Peng La Mian Xiao Long Bao 鑫鹏拉面小笼包, one of the stalls in Bgain 442 Eating House. This stall is a favorite among the residents and workers in the area for their huge portion size and cheap prices.

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao long Bao - Menu

This is the menu. As you can see, there are 9 noodles and 7 side dishes on the menu. As you can see, everything is between S$3.80 - S$6 which is very economical.

The Food

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao long Bao - Five Spice Beef La Mian Soup

My favorite is their Five Spice Beef La Mian Soup 五香牛肉拉面汤 [S$4.50]. The noodles are not as good as MEET Noodles but the quantity of the noodles is just as much if not more. I believe the five spice beef slices are homemade, they are way better than MEET Noodles. One bowl of  this noodle is enough for two normal-stomach people.

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao long Bao - Fried Bean Sauce La Mian

The Fried Bean Sauce La Mian 炸酱拉面 [S$4] is more soupy than usual. The salitiness of the soupy black bean sauce is not very consistent, sometimes it’s too salty and sometimes it’s just right. The cucumber slices on top of the noodles helps to balance out the saltiness a little.

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao long Bao - Chicken Chop La Mian

There is also Chicken Chop La Mian (Soup/Dry) 鸡扒拉面 (汤/干) [S$4]. The dry version comes with the black bean sauce and a whole lot of noodles. The fried chicken chop is crispy but rather salty.

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao long Bao - Shanghai Xiao Long Bao

The Shanghai Xiao Long Bao 上海小笼包 [S$4 for 6 pieces] may not be as delicate as Din Tai Fung’s but they taste pretty alright. Eat them hot or else the skin will get a little tough.

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao long Bao - Shandong Dumpling

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao long Bao - Shandong Dumpling Inside

I also like their Shandong Dumpling 山东水饺 [S$5 for 12 pieces, S$8 for 18 pieces] which are packed full with succulent pork filling. This value-for-money pricing reminds me of Shan Dong Dong Ji La Mian Xiao Long Bao.

The fried version, Shandong Fried Dumpling 山东锅贴 [S$5 for 12 pieces, S$8 for 18 pieces] is a little different from the usual flat-based ones elsewhere. These are really deep-fried dumplings and they are served piping hot.

Conclusion

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao Chu 鑫鹏拉面小笼包 is perfect for those who wants a filling meal without having to spend too much money. The portions are huge and prices are low.

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg.                         Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
