Derwish - Halal Turkish Mediterranean Restaurant

I didn't know Singapore has such a vibrant Turkish culinary scene until my girlfriend suggested going to a Turkish restaurant called Derwish for our meetup.   It turns out that the whole Bussorah Street is filled with Turkish restaurants. Bussorah Street is directly opposite Masjid Sultan and most Turkish restaurants are halal which attracts Muslims.  Among all the Turkish restaurants on Bussorah Street, Derwish is one of the most popular. The design of the restaurant is distinctively Turkish with three blue-tiled steps that leads to the entrance of the restaurant. White Turkish tiles decorate the walls and a chandelier hanging in the middle of the ceiling gives the place a feel of royalty.   There are more seats on the second floor which can only be accessed by stairs at the back of the restaurant next to the kitchen. The room on the second floor is decorated with even more elaborately blue and gold tiles. The chandelier hanging in the middle of the room and ...

City Hot Pot 旺爐 (One Raffles Place) - Personal Mini Hotpot

I recently had dinner at City Hot Pot 旺爐 with my ex-colleagues. My ex-colleagues have been raving about this hotpot restaurant for a while now and we finally got to try it.  The outlet on level 4 of One Raffles Place was their first outlet which opened in 2014. City Hot Pot gained popularity with their individual pot concept and reasonably-priced ingredients. They have since opened another two outlets in  Guoco Tower and Jurong Point Shopping Centre.  City Hot Pot - Menu You can either order the ingredients a la carte or order set meals based on the number of people dining. This is similar to   Shi Li Fang ’s concept, which takes out the hassle of choosing individual ingredients.  Since we have 5 people (as per Covid-19 restrictions), we ordered Set H. Every set comes with a choice of staple for each diner and Seasonal VegiCombo. Drinks are available at S$2.99 per glass.  Each diner has his or her own little pot and each diner can choose their own soup base...

Guiga Korean BBQ Restaurant - Korean Marinated Crab and Korean BBQ

I have been binge-watching this Korean YouTuber Tzuyang, it’s amazing how much this petite girl can eat in one seating! There was one video where she ate gejang which is Korean marinated crab.  I have had my fair share of Korean food but I have never had gejang in Singapore. A search online revealed that only two restaurants in Singapore serves this exotic Korean delicacy. One is Guiga Korean BBQ Restaurant and the other is The GoGiJip Korean BBQ. The way Tzuyang eats the gejang makes it look so delicious so I decided to try it out for myself. Besides gejang, there are other things I want to try at The GoGiJip Korean BBQ, so I decided to visit Guiga Korean BBQ Restaurant alone.  Guiga Korean BBQ Restaurant - Interior  The interior of Guiga Korean BBQ Restaurant gives off a warm homey feeling with brown-color tables, chairs and separators. The orange fluorescent lights and bricks walls accentuates the homey atmosphere. It feels like I have just stepped into a rustic Korean...

O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ - Quality Meats and Delicious Korean Cuisine

I have been to the O.BBa Jjajang in Tanjong Pagar, but only for   jajangmyeon and tangsuyuk . O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ may look like an ordinary Korean barbecue restaurant but don’t be deceived by its humble appearance. It is hugely popular and many Singaporeans will willingly wait for hours just to dine there.  O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ does not accept reservations, you have to scan the QR code outside the restaurant to get a queue number. Be prepared to wait. My colleagues and I were there on a weekday lunch and we waited for an hour. I can’t even imagine how long the wait will be for dinner. The “Must-Order” Dishes O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ is after all a Korean barbecue restaurant so meat is a must. This restaurant is famous for their 3cm pork belly which is part of   Pork & DoinJangJjigae   [S$52]. We also ordered   Set A (Beef)   [S$92] which contains Ribeye + Prime Beef Short Rib + Marinated Beef Short Rib + Traditional Marinated Beef. If you are a me...

Hotpot by Seoul Garden Group - Korean Hotpots and Bibimbaps

Hotpot by Seoul Garden Group is a new concept restaurant by the halal-certified Seoul Garden Group which has been around in Singapore for more than 35 years.  This new concept focuses on Korean soups, hotpots, bibimbap and jjiage sets. You can find the full menu   here . Yes, Hotpot by Seoul Garden Group is halal-certified.  Ginseng Chicken Hot Pot   [S$18] is a classic Korean soups never fails to warm me up. Fresh chicken is cooked with red dates, glutinous rice, wolfberries and Korean ginseng. The ginseng gives the soup a metallic taste which I do not like but the chicken soup is deeply flavourful.  Duyu means "soy milk" in Korean and Koreans love soy milk. The Koreans believe that drinking soy milk has many benefits such as lowering blood pressure, helps with diabetes and improves cardiovascular health.   This is my first time seeing hotpot cooked with soy milk, this is another innovation of Hotpot by Seoul Garden Group.   Duyu Beef Hot Pot   [...
