O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ - Quality Meats and Delicious Korean Cuisine

I have been to the O.BBa Jjajang in Tanjong Pagar, but only for jajangmyeon and tangsuyuk. O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ may look like an ordinary Korean barbecue restaurant but don’t be deceived by its humble appearance. It is hugely popular and many Singaporeans will willingly wait for hours just to dine there.

O.BBa Jjajang BBQ - Restaurant Front

O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ does not accept reservations, you have to scan the QR code outside the restaurant to get a queue number. Be prepared to wait. My colleagues and I were there on a weekday lunch and we waited for an hour. I can’t even imagine how long the wait will be for dinner.

The “Must-Order” Dishes

O.BBa Jjajang BBQ - Pork & DoinJangJJiGae and Set A

O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ is after all a Korean barbecue restaurant so meat is a must. This restaurant is famous for their 3cm pork belly which is part of Pork & DoinJangJjigae [S$52]. We also ordered Set A (Beef) [S$92] which contains Ribeye + Prime Beef Short Rib + Marinated Beef Short Rib + Traditional Marinated Beef. If you are a meat-lover, these two sets should satisfy your porky and beefy cravings.

Once you have tried the 3cm pork belly, you will never go back to the 2mm or 5mm pork belly. This thick pork belly is less oily and more chewy than its thinner counterparts. Besides having the grilled meats as ssambap (lettuce wrap), try it with a little bit of wasabi for a bit of heat.

O.BBa Jjajang BBQ - Soft Tofu SoupO.BBa Jjajang BBQ - Steam Egg

The beef set comes with Steam Egg and a choice of Soft Tofu Soap, Kimchi Soup or Korean Bean Paste Stew. I recommend getting the Soft Tofu Stew, the hot and spicy stew goes perfectly with grilled meats.

O.BBa Jjajang BBQ - MulNaengMyun

MulNaengMyun (Chilled Buckwheat Noodle Soup) [S$15] only costs $7 with any order of grill meat. Nothing beats having a bowl of this cold sweet and sour noodle to neutralize the greasiness of the grilled meats.

O.BBa Jjajang BBQ - BokBunJa

Drink-wise, if you are bored of the usual soju and maggolli, try this BokJunJa (Rubus Corneanus Fruit Wine) [S$25]. There is 15% alcohol which is similar to those of wine. It is very sweet and fruity, like mulled wine but minus the spices. It is a fun drink that everyone will enjoy.

“Can-Order” Dishes

O.BBa Jjajang BBQ - SamGaeTang

SamGaeTang (Ginseng Chicken Soup) [S$19] for those who can’t take spicy food. Ginseng Chicken Soup is pretty much the same everywhere, the chicken is fall-off-the-bone tender and the soup is sublime.

O.BBa Jjajang BBQ - HaeMulPaJeon

HaeMulPaJeon (Seafood Spring Onion Pancake) [S$22] is a good dish to start as appetizer. The pancake is crispy with generous amounts of spring onion and seafoods.

O.BBa Jjajang BBQ - DDukBokl

I like that the DDukBokl (Original Ricecake) [S$18] comes with fishcakes, kimchi and cabbage. The other ingredients gives a variety of textures even though everything tastes the same in the pungent gochujang sauce.

O.BBa Jjajang BBQ - Yakult

Every meal at O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ ends with a Yakult probiotic drink to help you aid in digestion.

Conclusion

The high-quality meats and delicious dishes makes O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ a great place for Korean barbecue. That 3cm/30mm pork belly is out of this world, you’ve got to try it.

O.BBa Jjajang & BBQ does not accept reservations, do come down early to queue even on weekdays.

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg.                         Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
