Jia Wei - Chinese Restaurant in East Singapore

 Jia Wei - Signage

I have always believed that all the good restaurants such as Ban Heng are in town area but a recent visit to Jia Wei proved me wrong. Jia Wei is located on level two of Hotel Grand Mecure Roxy, an old hotel in the Marina Bay area.

Jia Wei - Interior

Despite being a reputable Chinese restaurant with years of experience, the interior of Jia Wei is modern and classy. White ceilings and walls match the cream-colored tables while the white and black rattan chairs gives the place a relaxed feel.

Jia Wei - The Food

Jia Wei - Dim Sum

Jia Wei - Prawn Dumpling with Black Vinegar and Chilli Oil

Jia Wei - Australian Scallop Pea Flower Rice Roll

Jia Wei is pretty famous for their innovative spin on classic dim sums which are only available during lunch. We had Traditional Pork Siew Mai 传统鲜虾烧卖 [S$7.80 for 3 pieces], Jia Wei Butterfly Pea Har Gow 嘉味蓝蝶花虾饺 [S$7.80 for 3 pieces], Prawn Dumpling with Black Vinegar and Chilli Oil 四川麻辣红油抄手 [S$7.80 for 5 pieces], Australian Scallop Pea Flower Rice Roll 招牌蓝蝶花鲜带子粉肠 [S$8.80], Blue Volcano Custard Bun 嘉味爆浆流沙包 [S$7.80 for 3 pieces].

Jia Wei - Ah Ma Hae-Chor

Ah Ma Prawn Hae-Chor 阿嬷虾枣 [S$22] is another of Jia Wei's signature dishes. The hae-chor are twice the size of counterparts outside and loaded with minced prawn and mined pork.

Jia Wei - Crispy Deep Ocean Prawn with Creamy Butternut Sauce

Crispy Deep Ocean Prawn with Creamy Butternut Sauce 奶皇虾球 [S$34] is so good, I can polish the whole plate by myself. The huge and succulent prawn is crispy from frying and coated with thick creamy butternut sauce.

Jia Wei - Jia Wei Roasted Free Range Chicken

There's nothing special about Jia Wei Roasted Free Range Chicken 嘉味脆皮烧鸡 [S$48 for Whole Chicken, S$26 for Half Chicken]. It's similar to the Majestic Roast Chicken I had at Moi Lum.

Jia Wei - Jia Wei Tofu and Luffa Melon Poached in Egg White

For those who don't like the bitterness of green vegetables can consider ordering Jia Wei Tofu and Luffa Melon Poached in Egg White 丝瓜碧玉豆腐 [S$26]. It is a comforting dish that seniors and children alike will enjoy for its softness and mellow flavours.

Jia Wei - Crispy Red Bean Pancake

Crispy Red Bean Pancake 酥脆豆沙窝饼 [S$20] is a classic dessert at any Chinese restaurant. I like that the red bean paste here is not overly sweet.

Jia Wei - Chilled Home Made Coconut Pudding with Vanilla Ice-Cream

Chilled Home Made Coconut Pudding with Vanilla Ice-Cream [S$15] is served in a golden golden bowl with dry ice that gives a dramatic cinematic effect. The homemade coconut pudding in creamy coconut milk goes really well with the scoop of vanilla ice-cream.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

O'ma Spoon

Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
