Straits Kitchen - Halal Southeast Asian Buffet

 Straits Kitchen - Restaurant Front

Unlike Greenhouse which serves international buffet, the Straits Kitchen specializes in Southeast Asian cuisine. You will find all your favorite Singapore dishes, all in one place.

The Straits Kitchen is halal-certified, which explains why it is so popular with Muslim families and companies with Muslim staff.

Straits Kitchen - The Food

You can find the full lunch/dinner buffet here while I give you a virtual guide below.

Straits Kitchen - Popiah

Straits Kitchen - Chilled Tiger Prawn

I only Popiah and Chill Tiger Prawn at the appetiser section. The chef at the live Popiah station makes a pretty good popiah. Besides the Popiah station is a huge tray of ice with a single miserable basket of Chilled Tiger Prawns.

Straits Kitchen - Malay

At the Malay station, I had Nasi Puteh (Steamed Organic Jasmine Rice) with Ayam Buah Keluak (Chicken in lack Nut Gravy) and Rendang Daging (Australian Beef in Coconut Cream).

Straits Kitchen - BBQ

You have a choice of Chicken, Mutton or Beef Satay at the BBQ station. A took a few of each, along with chopped onion, rice cakes and peanut sauce. The satays are a little dry but the creamy peanut sauce gives it some much-needed moisture. Otah-Otah is soft and tender with just the right amount of spices.

Straits Kitchen - Chinese Cooked Dishes

I pretty much liked every dish from the Chinese section - Carrot Cake, Char Kway Teow, Braised Chicken with Mushroom and Vegetables, Wok-Fried Tiger Prawn and Steamed Snapper with Black Bean Sauce. All the Chinese stir-fries are flavourful and delicious.

Straits Kitchen - Roasted Meat

The Roasted Duck and Chicken Rice at the Chinese BBQ station were not the best I have had, but overall quite alright.

Straits Kitchen - Noodles

At the Noodles live station, there are Laksa, Prawn Noodles and Chicken Noodles. You can customise everything from the noodles, broth, meat to the vegetable used. I got a bowl of Prawn Noodles with yellow noodles and bean sprouts. The prawn broth is thick and pungent, it was a very enjoyable bowl of Prawn Noodles.

Straits Kitchen - Indian

I can't really take spicy food so I am not particularly fond of Indian food. I got some Tandoori Gosht Kebab and Tandoori Gobi with a few pieces of Garlic Naan (choice of Plain or Garlic Naan).

Straits Kitchen - Kueh Lapis Legit

Straits Kitchen - Old Fashioned Snacks

Straits Kitchen - Cold Desserts

My favourite at the Desserts are Kuah Lapis Legit, Mango Pudding in Coconut Milk and Pandan Kaya Cake. The coconut milk further enhances the creaminess of the mango pudding. There are also jar containing sweets from my childhood such as Iced Gem Biscuit and Kuih Piring Ranggup.

There are Coconut or Chocolate Ice Cream, as well as local seasonal fruits.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

O'ma Spoon

Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
