Pasta Brava - Oldest Italian Restaurant in Singapore

Thank you Sofi, owner and chef, for inviting me to review Pasta Brava. Pasta Brava opened in 1991, making it one of the oldest Italian restaurants in Singapore with 32 years of heritage. Sofi bought over this restaurant 8 years ago and opened Sofi Cafe + Keto + Rooftop Bar next door, merging the two into one huge restaurant, bringing the restaurant to new heights. Pasta Brava serves traditional Italian food while Sofi Cafe + Keto + Rooftop Bar focuses on keto recipes. It's also where Sofi ‘read people’ (she is supposed to be be really accurate) and give free counseling. I have not been to the original location at 11A Craig Road, but Pasta Brava fits right in at Scarlet Hotel. Stepping into Pasta Brava feels like stepping into a cosy Italian home. The floors are all carpeted, wooden tables and padded chairs gives off a cosy ambience. The soft lights are not that great for photography, but makes the place feel even more homey. The Food Here’s the   menu   for your re...

Lai Chi - New Halal Popiah and Nasi Lemak Stall in Novena

Thank you Lai Chi for inviting me to do a review for the newly-opened stall Lai Chi. Even though this is a sponsored post, I promise to do an honest review. Lai Chi is located on level 1 of Velocity @ Novena Square, a few stalls away from   Wok Hey in Velocity @ Novena Square. The white signage on bright green bamboo background and the green decorations of the stall gives the stall a fresh feel. Unfortunately, it’s a small takeaway stall with no seating area. The shop is in the process of applying for halal certification. Even though there is no official certification yet, the stall uses no pork no lard in all its dishes. The Food Lai Chi specializes in nasi lemak, kueh pie tee and popiah. There are many choices of nasi lemak available, with prices ranging from S$5.90 to S$8. Two of the most popular nasi lemak options are   Beef Rendang   [S$8] and   Salted Egg Chicken   [S$6.80]. The rice is fluffy but not oily, which sets it apart from other nasi lemak stalls....

Wild Honey - All Day Breakfast from Around The World

I can't believe that I have not written about Wild Honey when it is one of my favourite place for brunch. I used to come here almost every Sunday for brunch. Wild Honey serves all-day breakfasts with inspiration from countires around the world. I always go to the one in Scotts Square but there is another outlet in Mandarin Gallery. I’m not sure about the Mamdarin Gallery outlet, but the Scotts Square outlet is very popular. Do make a reservation beforehand whenever possible or risk waiting 30 minutes to an hour. I love the dark brown tables and chairs in Scotts Square outlet which makes the place feel so cosy. There are alfresco seats for those who want to bask in sunlight as they have their all-day breakfast. There are also counter seats around the big pillar near the entrance which makes dining by yourself a little less awkward. You can entertain yourself with magazines as you wait for your food. The Food I managed to take a photo of Wild Honey’s menu. I think you will find the...

Li Ji Chuan Chuan Xiang 李记串串香 - Skewer Hotpot in Chinatown

I’ve been craving for lok lok which is known as   chuan   (串) in Northeastern Chinese cuisine. I happened to pass by Li Jia Chuan Chuan Xiang one day and this restaurant specializes in this type of skewer in the form of hotpot. This is where you get sauces and condiments. You have all the standard stuff like soy sauce, vinegar and spring onions as well as some not-so-common ones like Sichuan peppercorn and sha cha sauce. You can order single or double soup base with 7 soup bases to choose from. Their mala soup base have three levels of spiciness as well as the usual pork bone soup, chicken soup, mushroom soup and tomato soup. The Chinese sauerkraut soup base and their signature "green" soup bases are quite different. All the hotpot ingredients are strung on individual bamboo sticks in freezers at the back of the restaurant. you just stick the bamboo sticks into the hotpot and cook it like regular hotpot. The premium meats and seafoods come in coloured plates which corres...

Jelebu Dry Laksa - Premium Seafood Dry Laksa

I was wondering around VivoCity when I chanced upon the grand opening of a new restaurant, Jelebu Dry Laksa. Chef Renee Tang came up with Jelebu Dry Laksa during the height of Covid-19 pandemic back in 2020. Her creative spin on the classic laksa was an instant hit among Singaporeans and she was featured in numerous articles. I have not had dry laksa before so I made a trip to VivoCity to try Jelebu Dry Laksa. The Food Jelebu Dry Laksa has lots of interesting appetizers, all of which look really appetizing. I got   Scallop & Otah Pillow [S$18 for 3 pieces] because I love scallops and it sounds so exquisite. The fresh Hokkaido scallop is slightly seared and topped with avruga cavier for an extra touch of luxury. The otah mousse gives it a little spice and creamy kick while the nori cracker gives it a nice crunch. The main course is undoubtedly  their dry laksa. You get to choose the accompanying ingredient, between tiger prawns, lobster and crispy ebi. This is  ...
