The Coffee Academics - For The Coffee Connoisseur

The Coffee Academics’s main selling point which is their speciality coffee is lost on me since I don’t drink coffee. In fact, it was even voted one of the “10 Best Coffee Places in Singapore”.

The Coffee Academics - Restaurant Front

The outlet in Scotts Square is their flagship store. I only came here because Wild Honey was full and there was a 45-minute wait. Since The Coffee Academics also serves breakfast, I decided to have my brunch here instead.

The Food

I don’t drink coffee so I can’t critique the coffee but the breakfasts here are pretty on-point.

Here’s the link to the menu in case you want to know what I’m eating.

The Coffee Academics - Chocolate Cocoa

For non-coffee drinkers like me, the only thing I can get is Chocolate Cocoa [Hot S$5.90, Cold S$7]. This is pure 75% dark ‘mana’ chocolate from Philippines, with your choice of solvent. I have lactose-intolerance  and I am so thankful that they have the option of oat milk. This cup of hot chocolate is rich and frothy.

The Coffee Academics - The Academics Breakfast

Doesn’t The Academics Breakfast [S$26] look absolutely glorious? Besides the usual sautéed mushrooms, crispy bacon, baked beans and grilled tomato, there is also pork sausage. There is pesto sauce on sourdough bread and even sliced truffle on the scrambled eggs. I like the addition of grilled halloumi cheese and the crispy garden salad.

The Coffee Academics - Salted Egg Sausage Carbonara

Pasta is a good choice anytime, especially one as delicious as Salted Egg Sausage Carbonara [S$18]. I love how the creamy salted egg sauce generously coats every strand of pasta. The herbs sausages are nice but the pecorino cheese shavings are what gives the extra dose of creaminess.

The Coffee Academics - Academics Coffee Churros

I find Academics Coffee Churros [S$17] a tad too sweet for my liking. The churros are bite-size and comes with their homemade gelato and  70% chocolate fudge dipping sauce.

The Coffee Academics - Cruffin

You can also order freshly-baked pastries such as cruffin (a hybrid of croissant and muffin) and croissants at the front of the restaurant.

My Verdict

The Coffee Academics is a good alternative to Wild Honey for brunch. There are multiple outlets in Singapore. The coffee is supposed to be some of the best.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour.                         Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
