Imperial Restaurant 宏仁堂御膳餐厅

 Imperial Restaurant - Decor

My mother told me excitedly the other day that she recently discovered a great Chinese restaurant called Imperial Restaurant. The restaurant used to have an in-house Chinese physician who will give diners health diagnosis.

Even though there’s no more in-house Chinese physician, the restaurant still adheres to the founding values of serving “tasty, healthy and affordable” cuisine.

Design

The grand decor inside befits the imperial theme of the restaurant with gold color on every column and ceiling.

Imperial Restaurant - Medicine Cabinet

A huge Chinese medicine cabinet standing against the wall symbolizes the restaurant’s emphasis on serving healthy gourmet cuisine.

The Food

You can find the ala carte menu here. If you are lazy to choose individual dishes, you can get one of the value-for-money set menu depending on the number of diners.

Imperial Restaurant - Menu

Since it’s just me and my mother, we decided to get the Imperial Set Menu 1 [S$28++] which is actually meant for 1 person.

Imperial Restaurant - 'Fu Rong with Dried Scallop

The meal starts with “Fun Rong” (Fluffy Egg White) with Dried Scallop that sits on a bed of fried yam strips. The contrast is texture between the fluffy egg white and crispy yam makes this such an interesting dish.

Imperial Restaurant - Imperial Soup of the Day

Imperial Soup of the Day was matsutake mushroom chicken soup. The soup looks clear but it is very flavorful and full of nutrients.

Imperial Restaurant - Chicken Chop Glazd in emongrass & Black Pepper Sauce

Chicken Chop Glazed in Lemongrass & Black Pepper Sauce looks too modern for a traditional Chinese restaurant. The chicken chop is really tender but the lemongrass and black pepper sauce is a little too sweet.

Imperial Restaurant - Black Bean Curd in Carrot Sauce

Only the outside skin of  Black Bean Curd in Carrot Sauce is black, the tofu inside is still white and silky-smooth. The carrot sauce has a natural sweetness which goes really well with the tofu.

Imperial Restaurant - Olive Vegetable Fried Rice with Green Soya Beans

Olive Vegetable Fried Rice with Green Soya Beans is such a comforting dish. The olive vegetable lends a fragrant aroma to the fried rice while the green soya beans gives a great crunchy texture.

Imperial Restaurant - Dessert of the Day

We had a choice of Osmanthus Jelly or Refreshing Jelly for Dessert of the Day. Osmanthus Jelly is too common, so we opted for Refreshing Jelly which turns out to be Honeysuckle and Mint Jelly. The honeysuckle gives the jelly a natural sweetness while the mint leaves a cooling sensation in the mouth.

Conclusion

Older people and health-conscious people will love Imperial Restaurant for dishes that blends healthy ingredients with gourmet cooking. The restaurant is founded on an old Chinese imperial cooking philosophy with an emphasis on low-sugar, salt and seasonings.

The grand decor of Imperial Restaurant also makes it perfect for events such as wedding dinner.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
