Yan Palace Restaurant 燕阁大酒楼

Yan Palace Restaurant - Restaurant Front

I have heard so much about Yan Palace Restaurant. Every time there is talk about having dim sum, everyone will unanimously suggest Yan Palace Restaurant.

If you are coming on Sunday morning, it’s a good idea to make a booking at 10am because the place becomes really busy by 11am.

Decor

Yan Palace Restaurant - Interior

The whole restaurant is carpeted with red and black with gold carpet, giving the restaurant a grandiose feel. The purple table cloth with white chair covers gives the ambience a touch of luxury.

The grand Yan Palace Restaurant will make a good place to hold wedding dinners or dinner functions.

Menu

Yan Palace Restaurant - Menu

Here is Yan Palace Restaurant’s menu for your reference.

What I Ate

Small [S$5]

Yan Palace Restaurant - Steamed Chicken Claws in Spicy Sauce

The chicken feet in 桂林蒸风爪 Steamed Chicken Claws in Spicy Sauce are steamed so well that the skin falls off the bones with just a suck. The sauce is only slightly spicy but nothing that a non-spicy eater cannot handle.

Yan Palace Restaurant - Steamed Custard & Egg Yolk Buns

I love a good custard bun anytime and I really enjoyed the Steamed Custard and Egg Yolk Buns 咸蛋奶黄包 here. The custard is runny with just the right balance between sweetness and saltiness.

Yan Palace Restaurant - Mini Egg Tarts

The Mini Egg Tarts 迷你蛋挞仔 look so cute. Each of these mini egg tarts are half the size of regular egg tarts. Taste is average, nothing to rave about.

Medium [S$5.60]

Yan Palace Restaurant - Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumplings

Even though the Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumplings 上海小笼包 here are not as delicate as Ding Tai Fun, they are still pretty tasty. They are very hot though, so be careful when eating.

Yan Palace Restaurant - Pork Porridge with Century Eggs

Pork Porridge with Century Egg 皮蛋廋肉粥 is the most classic of Cantonese porridge. The porridge is silky-smooth with lots of century egg but the meat is almost non-existent.

Yan Palace Restaurant - Pan Fried Carrot Cakes

The Pan Fried Carrot Cakes 香煎萝卜糕 is very different from the ones I normally have in coffeeshops. It has a very fine and smooth texture , I almost can’t taste the radish inside.

Yan Palace Restaurant - Steamed Prawn Dumplings Har Kow

Steamed Prawn Dumplings “Har Kow” 水晶鲜虾饺 is the most classic of Cantonese dim sum. The huge prawn inside is crunchy and sweet.

Desserts

Yan Palace Restaurant - Red Bean Paste with Lotus Nuts

People of older generations will definitely enjoy Red Bean Paste with Lotus Nuts 莲子红豆沙 [S$3.80]. The red bean paste is thick with real red beans and even the lotus nuts are cooked till soft. It’s not overly sweet which is perfect for the health-conscious.

Yan Palace Restaurant - Deep Fried Ice Cream

I have been searching for Deep Fried Ice Cream 酥炸雪糕 [S$3.80] all over Singapore, I even went to The Ship Restaurant to try their Bombe Alaska but it’s not quite the same. This is single and delicious, just a scoop of creamy vanilla ice-cream in a crispy shell that is deep-fried. Children and adults alike will love this.

Yan Palace Restaurant - Sesame Balls

I was curious if the Sesame Balls 芝麻球 [S$4.50 for 3 pieces] are the same as the ones found elsewhere. It turns out that the ones from Yan Palace Restaurant are fully stuffed with fillings, while the ones outside usually only have a small ball of filling inside.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Topped with a fried egg with runny yolk, every bite is filled with delicious goodness.   Address and telephone n...

O'ma Spoon

Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
