Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Restaurant Front

It's been a while since I last had Turkish food at Cappadocia Turkish Restaurant. This time we will be visiting Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Interior

Located on level 3 of Marina Square, Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant is modern and contemporary with touches of Turkish design such as the colorful Turkish lamps hanging from the ceiling.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Private Room

There are also private rooms with sofas surrounding a hexagon-shaped wooden table.

What to order

You can refer to Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant’s menu here.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Hummus with Bread

Hummus with Bread [S$12.50] is the easiest appetizer to order in a Turkish restaurant. This delicious dip is made with chickpeas and tahini blended with extra virgin olive oils and spices.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Sesame Bread

It comes with half portion Turkish bread which is definitely not enough to mop up all that smooth creamy dip. You can always order  additional Turkish Bread [S$4.80] or Sesame Bread [S$8.90].

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Eggplant Salad

Eggplant Salad [S$9.80] is a delicious cold starter where fresh eggplant is tossed with tomatoes, peppers and onion puree.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Chef Plate

If you want a taste of everything, get the Chef Plate [S$44.50]. You get chicken and lamb doner, grilled chicken and lamb meatballs as well as a skewer of chicken shish kebab.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Adana Kebab

Adana Kebab is minced marinated meat kebab mounted on a wider iron skewer and grilled over open fire. You can choose between Chicken [S$24.75], Lamb [S$27.50] or Special [S$32.25]. I got the lamb version where the meat is tender and flavorful.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Iskander Kebab

Shish Kebab are cubed meats on a skewer that is cooked over open fire. There are 4 meats to choose from: Chicken [S$22.50], Beef [S$24.75], Lamb [S$25.75] and Sucuk (Sausage) [S$22.50].

Shish kebab meats tend to be drier. If you like flavorful and meat, you are better off ordering adana kebab.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Shish Chicken Wings

When all else fails, there is always Shish Chicken Wings [S$22.50]. Those chicken wings are definitely cooked, but still remain juicy.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Manti

This is the first time I am seeing the Turkish version of dumplings (ravioli) which is called Manti. These tiny dumplings are filled with your choice of meat - Beef [S$25.50], Lamb [S$26.20], Chicken [S$23.75] or Vegetarian [S$21.50].

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Original Ayran

Drinks-wise, ayran is a refreshing Turkish drink made of yogurt, water and salt. The Original Ayran [S$7] is slightly salty but it comes in a beautiful bronze cup.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Mango Ayran

Mixed Berries Ayran [S$8.50], Mango Ayran [S$8.50] and Peach Ayran [S$8.50] are sweet and taste much better.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Turkish Coffee

Turkish Coffee [S$6] is prepared without filtering so you will see lots of coffee powder residue at the bottom of your cup.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Turkish Tea

There are 10 types of Turkish teas to choose from. This is Turkish Apple Tea [S$3] which has a mild apple aroma.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Baklava

Baklava [S$9.90] is the classic Turkish dessert that everyone enjoys. This rich dessert is made with layers of filo pastry filled with chopped pistachios and sweetened with sugar syrup. These come in triangle pieces, one piece is more than enough to give you sugar overload.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Diamond Baklava

Diamond Baklava [S$12.15] are just mini baklava in small rectangles. Don’t bother, it’s the same thing.

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant - Katmer

Katmer is another delicious Turkish dessert native to Gaziantep city of Turkey. Inside the crisp phyllo dough are ground pistachios and clotted cream. Katmer with Pistachio Ice Cream [S$16.75] is served with a scoop of pistachio ice-cream for additional creamy-smooth richness.

PAUL

PAUL is a renowned family French bakery and patisserie founded in 1889. Bringing with them them the fine tradition of passion for food and French traditions, PAUL gives Singaporeans a glimpse into French culture and tradition through the delicious and visually-appealing pastries and food.       PAUL's Hot Chocolate is not as creamy as I would have liked it but every last drop is made with good-quality cocoa powder.     Lemon Tart With Meringue is not exactly my favourite dessert, but it looked so pretty that I decided to give it a try anyway. However, it proved to be too sour for my palette even with the beautifully flamed meringue.    Croque Madame is croque-monsieur (grilled ham and cheese sandwich) topped with a fried egg. Emmental cheese, cream and ham is sandwich in pain de eie and toasted till a rich golden brown colour.                         Korean bingsu is a popular Korean dessert comprising of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, fresh fruits, Korean rice cake and ice-cream. Bingsu is all the craze in Singapore now and Korean bingsu cafes are popping up everywhere like wild mushrooms.                            Besides bingsu, this dessert cafe also serves usual cafe offerings such as coffee and tea. I have been told that their Signature Oven-Baked Honey Bread is very good. The flavours include Strawberry & Chocolate with Ice Cream, Banana & Chocolate with Ice Cream and Green Tea with Ice Cream.     I was told that   Mango Cheesecake Bingsu   is one of the most popular item on the menu. Oh my, it is a sight to behold! A bowl of shaved ice is topped with sweetened condensed milk and freshly-cut m...

Grandma's - Authentic Singapore Food

Grandma's has been around for quite a while now but I only got the chance to try their food recently when the third outlet opened in Suntec City.        I remember having these prawn crackers when I was little. They are so easy and good to eat, I can finish a whole package of this in one sitting.     I don't usually order Malay food, but the Nasi Bukhari looked so good in the menu, I thought I will give it a try. Fragrant yellow turmeric rice is served with golden brown chicken leg which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prawns were fresh and succulent but I don't really like the sauce the prawns are cooked in. What really amazes me about this dish is the beef rendang.          I never knew Bo Bo Cha Cha is so such a delightful dessert until I tried it here at Grandma's. The warm and thick coconut tastes so good with chunks of sweet potato and yam. This is definitely comfort food that warms the heart.   Gr...
