Jiak Kim House - Fusion Asian 3 Course Menu at S$65++

If you like to dine at restaurants with elegant interiors such as   Sospiri, Jiak Kim House will not disappoint. Located in a restored 1920s heritage warehouse along the Singapore River, the interior is an eccentric mix of elegance and nostalgia. I especially like the steel truss structure that supports the roof which reminds me of Bukit Timah Truss Bridge. The Food Besides the   a la carte menu, Jiak Kim House also offers a 3-course menu at S$65++ per person perfect for those of us who cannot make up our minds. Appetizers The most interesting appetizer has to be the   Tingkat of Memories   where you get you get 4 fusion Asian  bites. The bites themselves are fun bite-size but it comes in two layers of wooden tingkat box which brings up the aesthetics. Amela Tomato Salad   is presented with calamansi gel covering 4 wedges of tomatoes seasoned with shiso and soy ponzu. Mains The   Kam Heong Sambal Grouper   is so tender and it goes well with...

Tanglin Cookhouse 3-Course Christmas Set Menu at S$48++

Tanglin Cookhouse has come up with a festive 3-course Christmas Set Menu priced at S$48++ per person. Appetizer If you like to start your meal with a hot soup,   Borscht Soup with Sour Cream   is a good choice. The soup is homey and goes well with the toasted bread. I liked the smoked duck pieces in the   Pepper Crusted Duck & Orange Salad . The accompanying salad with feta cheese, walnuts, dried cranberries and orange vinaigrette is crispy and fresh. Mains If you want an English main, go for   Roasted Turkey Roulade . By serving turkey in roulade form, it ensures the turkey does not go dry. The onion gravy goes great with the turkey. There is also Yorkshire pudding accompanied by cranberry jam and healthy garden pea, roasted potato and roasted broccoli and carrot. I personally like the hearty   Irish Guinness Braised Cheek . The beef cheek is so tender, it falls apart at the touch of my fork. The accompanying potato mousseline and braised red cabbage...

The Great Mischief - Halal Spanish Restaurant in National Gallery

The Great Mischief is founded by The Black Hole Group who brought us   Tipo Strada . Located on the ground of the National Gallery Singapore, The Great Mischief is right next to the gift shop. Call to reserve one of the tables with pretty dome-shaped glass windows overlooking The Padang. The Food As you can see from this   menu , The Great Mischief specializes in catalan cuisine from Catalunya of northeastern Spain. Croquetas   [S$14] is a dish of 4 golden-brown balls stuffed with turkey ham and creamy bechamel sauce. The accompanying slightly spicy salsa brava balances out the creaminess of the stuffing. I don’t think   Seafood Paella   [S$54] is worth the price and the 30-minute wait. There are only 4 prawns and 3 mussels on the paella and a few pieces of squid scattered among the rice. The rice is nicely infused with prawn broth but it gets a little bland after a few bites. I always wanted to try a   Burnt Cheesecake   [S$14] but I don’t real...

Feast Asia - Asian Buffet in Marine Parade

I have been to quite a few   buffets   around Singapore, but they are mostly in town area. Making up for the lack of a good buffet in the East is Feast Asia in Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy. Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy is very easily-accessible via Marine Parade station right outside the hotel. Feast Asia is located on level 3 of Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel. The interior is modern and brightly-lit. I always start any buffet with the Seafood on Ice. The lunch buffet has   poached prawns ,   mussels ,   scallops   as well as   freshly-shucked Hyogo oysters   and   crayfish   for dinner buffet. The chef at the Sashimi and Sushi counter expertly cuts and dishes out thick cuts of   salmon ,   tuna ,   octopus ,   surf clams and   swordfish . Live stations are always the star of any buffet.   Roxy Satay   was very popular, the chicken and mutton satay are snatched up the moment they are put out. Signature Laksa ...

Unatoto - Unagi Restaurant in Novena

I was craving for some comforting Korean handmade noodles. I made my way to   Huluruk Myeon House   in Velocity only to realize it has been taken over by a Japanese restaurant Unatoto. Unatoto specializes in unagi, (Japanese grilled eel). Unatoto aims to provide affordable unagi for everyone to enjoy. Besides unagi, Unatoto also offers tendon, kaisendon, gyu and tori dishes, noodles, izakaya bites and desserts. You can see their menu   here . Unatoto’s unagi comes in many sizes. I got the   Unadon Double   [S$15.50] which comes with two slices of unagi. The unagi is very well-cooked, with slightly charred skin that falls off. I opted for Value Set A by topping up an additional S$5. This gives me a small bowl of unagi liver soup which is clear and not fishy at all and an onsen egg. I got   Matcha   Warabimochi & Ice Cream with Black Honey   [S$7.50]. The matcha warabimochi is soft and chewy, the scoop of green tea ice-cream tastes surpri...
