Din-Gi Noodle House

Basement 1 of Plaza Singapura is a food haven of small food shops from many different cuisines from Chippy - British Take Away and Dong Dae Mun which sells popular Korean street snacks to Ji De Chi which sells Chinese desserts.    Today, we will be visiting Dingi Noodle House which specializes in Chinese style noodles.        There are 13 styles and 6 types of noodles to choose from. Their speciality is the One Strand Noodle.      I wanted something light so I ordered   Guangdong Wonton Noodles . I love the texture and firmness of their signature One Strand Noodle which is really one long strand of noodles measuring 10 meters but I am unimpressed with the bland broth. This is the Chinese version of pork bone soup, but it is too thin and rather salty.   Dingi Noodle House also offers Longevity Noodle (limited to 10 bowls per day) which is traditionally eaten on one's birthday.    Dingi Noodle House Address: 68 Orchard Road,...

Sushi on Wheelz (CityLink Mall) - Japanese Street Food

Sushi on Wheelz has come to Singapore, bringing popular authentic Japanese street snacks to Singapore.           Oden is a Japanese winter dish where ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon, konjac and processed fishcakes are stewed in a light, soy-flavored daikon broth. Given Singapore's tropical climate, oden is not very popular in Singapore, it was such a delightful surprise when I saw  that Sushi on Wheelz sells oden, displayed using traditional Japanese push-cart too! The oden is priced at $0.70 per piece or you can get 7 pieces at $4.50. Top up $1 for udon, which is really worth it. The udon are silky smooth and tastes heavenly when paired with the slightly sweet daikon broth.              There are four push-carts at the left side of the oden cart that displays an amazing array of sushi. All the sushi are freshly-made and the best part is the price! 4 pieces of Salmon Hana Maki for just $3.50? That is definit...

Pepper Lunch (Tampines One) - Premium Ribeye Steak At Affordable Price

When Pepper Lunch first arrived in Singapore, it created such a stir and there's a Pepper Lunch restaurant in almost every shopping mall.    A few years has passed by, the Pepper Lunch craze has passed and  Pepper Lunch outlets are disappearing one by one.    I was meeting a friend at Tampines One when I spied a Pepper Lunch outlet and I knew that I simply had to dine there.              Pepper Lunch's signature premium ribeye steak has been renamed   The Giant . You can choose between 180g and 200g but anyone who can do simple calculations will agree that topping up a few dollars for an extra 40g is definitely worth it. The meat is well-marbled and juicy, cut into strips and served on a hot plate, the tender meat happily sizzling away. Pour in the speciality brown sauce if you want, but I personally think that it is perfect as it is. 200g of premium ribeye steak at just $21.90 is such a steal and it is the one thin...

And Why - Hipster New York Themed Halal Restaurant at Bali Lane

Mariem and I didn't get to try And Why on our last cafe-hopping expedition (where we checked out   Krave ,   All In ,   Le Kue   and   BetterField ) so we decided to have our pre-Christmas celebration at And Why.    And Why is the newest addiction run by the same people behind All In and I Am. All In is a charming little halal takeaway counter selling freshly-baked pastries, coffee and cold-pressed juices while I Am is an halal restaurant modeled after Amsterdam.         And Why is a New York themed halal restaurant restaurant that serves freshly-brewed coffee, freshly-baked pastries, gourmet sandwiches, exquisite mains and desserts. And Why is a halal restaurant so there are no alcoholic drinks but the restaurant has come up with hand-crafted adaptations of well-known cocktails.      Exotic Elders   is a refreshing drink made of pink grapefruit base, infused with Elderflower and finished with a dash of so...

Din Tai Fung (Suntec City) - Consistent Quality

One of the sales representatives invited the doctor and a few of the staff to lunch to thank us for our continuous support. It was decided that we shall have the dinner at one of the only chain restaurant I actually like, Din Tai Fung.      Instead of drinking drinks loaded with artificial sweeteners, why not go for something healthy like this   Roselle Drink . Roselle is a species of hibiscus native to West Africa. Roselle is noted for its anti-hypertensive and cancer-treating properties and it is used in folk medicine as a mild diuretic and laxative. Health benefits aside, this sweet tangy drink is perfectly suited for the hot weather of Singapore when served chilled.     If you are looking for a light soup dish, I recommend   Noodle Soup with Shrimp & Pork Wantons . The handmade noodles are full of springiness and the combination of pork and shrimps give the wanton a distinctive sweetness.      For something classic and a l...

A-One Claypot House (Suntec City)

Claypot rice is one of Singapore's iconic foods. Claypot stalls can be found in all food centers and food courts.    A-One Claypot has been in operations since 2008, bringing claypot rice and congee into every part of Singapore. A-One has become so successful that claypot rice and congee is synonymous with A-One.     A-One Claypot House has taken over the spot previously occupied by Wendy at the East Wing of Suntec City Mall.       Opt for this healthy   Homemade Barley   which is not too sweet.     This is a restaurant that specialises in claypot and a meal does not feel complete without this classic dish which originated from the southern part of China. Many of the claypot dishes served here are Singapore classic dishes such as Claypot Dried Chilli Frog's Meat. For those of us who cannot take spicy food, you can choose either  Claypot Sesame Oil Chicken   or Claypot Frog's Meat with Scallion Ginger Sauce.    ...

Cafe-Hopping: BetterField

It has been a while since Mariem and I went cafe-hopping so we decided to meet up and check out a few of the cafes mentioned in  "10 New Halal Cafes in Bugis" by Singaporeplus .   Mariem and I were all ready to give up when we finally found it tucked at the back of Waterloo Center. I am amazed that people can actually find the place, much less book the place for a function.           It seems that The BetterField is a family business with the mother (the stern-looking women in spectacles), the daughter (the girl in ponytails) and the son (the handsome young man in white t-shirt) but this is just my guess.   French Duck Confit   looks alright but one bite and you will know how horribly wrong you are. The duck confit is so salty and dry I won't be surprised if it has been preserved in salt water. The meat come off in chunks and they are so leathery I nearly choked. The potatoes and sautéed mushrooms are covered with so much pepper I can'...
