Colonial Club Signatures (Paragon) - Western, Nyonya and Local Cuisine

I recently discovered a superb restaurant that serves excellent Singapore local cuisine and I want to share it with you.  Colonial Club is located in the basement of Paragon Shopping Centre, besides Le Shrimp Ramen. The white paneled walls, white marble tables and wicker chairs give off a nostalgic colonial vibe. The menu features mix of heritage cuisines, including Western dishes done in Hainanese-style, Nyonya delights and local favorites with British-Colonial influences.  Signature Nasi Lemak   [S$16.90] is a good example of local favorite with a British-Colonial twist. Instead of presenting nasi lemak flat on a plate, this nasi lemak goes vertical.  If you thought that serving nasi lemak in tower form is just for the visual impact, you are in for a surprise. The coconut rice that seats on top of the round otah is tinted blue with blue pea flower, followed by cucumber slices and fried egg, topped with beef rendang and fried crisps.  As you take a mouth...

Kreams Krafthouse - Instagram-Worthy Korean Cafe with Maple Leaves

Korean cafes have been opening one after another thanks to Korean dramas. Besides being featured in that certain Korean drama, there is nothing to set it apart from any other cafes.  But a cafe with maple leaves? Now, that’s something new.  If you want to visit Kreams Krafthouse, try to visit on a weekday. I wanted to try my luck on a Saturday afternoon and there was at least 20 people in the queue. If you must visit on a weekend, be prepared to wait at least an hour before you even get through the door.  The aesthetics of the cafe definitely does not disappoint. Maple leaves in different hues of green, yellow and orange cover ever inch of ceiling. Pillars are covered in brown bark to resemble tree trunks and soft yellow lighting completes the dreamy ambience.  Sitting on the wooden tables and benches under the maple leaves really makes you feel you are in a park in Korea.  Kreams Krafthouse serves only three things: coffee (and caffeine-free) drinks, cak...

Fluff Stack (Northpoint City) - Soufflé Pancakes

Ever since I had my first taste of Japanese pancakes at   Belle-Ville Pancake House (Square 2) , I can’t forgot the cloud-like softness of the pancakes. I know that Fluff Stack is another cafe that serves Japanese soufflé pancakes but its location at Suntec City Mall is not very convenient for me. Now that Fluff Stack has recently opened a new outlet at Northpoint City, let’s go and have a try. The new-restaurant-hype has not died down yet, so expect to wait for at least an hour if you come on weekends.  The Fluff Stack outlet at Northpoint City offers 7 flavors of pancakes to cater to different palates. This is the   All-Time Classic   [S$9.80] flavor. Two pieces of soufflé pancakes are stack together and topped with freshly-whipped cream. Accompanying the pancakes are a small jug of maple syrup and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. I love the sweet-salty syrup in   Salted Caramel   [S$14.50] which balances out the sweetness of the pancakes and whipped cream. ...

Ma Ma Spin Pot 麻姐旋转火锅 (Woodlands) - Garden-Themed Hotpot Restaurant

It has been more than a year since I last had hotpot at   Bugis Hotpot & BBQ Buffet . I searched Google for a hotpot place and Ma Ma Spin Pot 麻姐旋转火锅 sounded interesting. I read that conveyor-belt hotpot is not a new concept but this is my first time to one so I am still pretty psyched. Ma Ma Spin Pot 麻姐旋转火锅 is located opposite Woodlands East Industrial Estate, it is a little inaccessible. The only bus available is 858, most people will choose to walk 15-20 minutes from Admiralty MRT.  Ma Ma Spin Pot 麻姐旋转火锅 is decorated in garden-theme with leaves and flowers hanging down from the ceiling. There is a claw machine in front of the entrance and Grab & Go Charger where you can rent a portable power bank at S$1 for 24 hours. Ma Ma Spin Pot 麻姐旋转火锅 is not halal-certified but there is a huge sign next to its SafeEntry sign that says “no pork no lard” so I believe it is safe for Muslims to dine here. There are two types of seats - counter seats with individual pots or group seat...
