Jinjja Chicken (Clementi Mall) - Contemporary Korean Fast Food Chain

It’s been quite a while since I last ate at   Jinjja Chicken (Clementi Mall). My colleague and I were both craving for tteobokki (Korean rice cake) so we went to Jinjja Chicken (Clementi Mall) to satisfy our craving.  You can find a whole range of Korean foods here, from fried chicken and noodles to rice dishes and rice rolls. There are some un-Korean items such as burgers and salads on the menu too.  I got myself   Jinjja Drumsticks   3 pieces [S$8.90] because I miss having Korean fried chicken. It is bigger than I remembered from my last visit but not as big as the ones from PM Chicken.   There are 3 sauces to choose from - soy garlic, yangnyeom, monster. This is soy garlic sauce. The sweet and salty sauce is delicious, but the chicken inside tastes rather bland.  I am not sure if it’s the lack of pork (which was substituted with potato) but the   Jjajang Myeon [S$8.30, S$10.80 with cutlet] tasted flat. I can’t taste anything else besides...

Jin Peng La Mian Xiao Long Bao 鑫鹏拉面小笼包

I recently discovered a Chinese noodle stall where the portions are huge. It is Jin Peng La Mian Xiao Long Bao 鑫鹏拉面小笼包, one of the stalls in Bgain 442 Eating House. This stall is a favorite among the residents and workers in the area for their huge portion size and cheap prices.  This is the menu. As you can see, there are 9 noodles and 7 side dishes on the menu. As you can see, everything is between S$3.80 - S$6 which is very economical. The Food My favorite is their   Five Spice Beef La Mian Soup   五香牛肉拉面汤   [S$4.50]. The noodles are not as good as   MEET Noodles   but the quantity of the noodles is just as much if not more. I believe the five spice beef slices are homemade, they are way better than   MEET Noodles. One bowl of  this noodle is enough for two normal-stomach people. The   Fried Bean Sauce La Mian   炸酱拉面   [S$4] is more soupy than usual. The salitiness of the soupy black bean sauce is not very consistent, somet...

Hong Yit Bakery & Confectionery 豐益甜餅屋 - Old-School Bakery

I was wondering around Clementi central when I chanced upon this old-school Chinese bakery called Hong Yit Bakery & Confectionery 豐益甜餅屋.  I love these old-school bakeries but they are dwindling in numbers so finding one is akin to striking the lottery for me.  Hong Yit Bakery & Confectionery豐益甜餅屋 seems to be famous for their   Walnut Cookie 桃酥 [S$1],   Rock Biscuits 石头饼   [S$1] and   Japanese Crisp 日本饼   [S$2] which every customer seems to be buying. I bought a few of each to try and they remind me of the ones from my childhood. I especially like the Japanese Crisp with sugar crystals which gives it an additional crunch and sweetness.  You can also find Western-style cakes and log cakes in different flavors.  I also tried the Banana Cake [S$2 for 4 slices] which is not as good as   Rocky Masters (Bugis) .  You can find all the old-school Chinese pastries and snacks here such as tau sah piah and egg boro biscuit. Hong ...

Prata Alley - Contemporary Indian Restaurant

I was running an errand in 321 Clementi when I chanced upon this prata place called Prata Alley. This prata place looked different from other prata places I have been to such as   Sutha’s Cafe. The restaurant looks contemporary with black glass and bold red signage. If not for the word “prata” in its name, I would never have guessed it to be a prata place.  Prata Alley’s menu is different from others too. Besides the usual pratas, roti john and briyani, you will also find some new creations such as The Big One and Tumeric Rush. You can find Prata Alley’s full menu   here .  Prata Alley - The Food  The Big One   [S$15.90] is one of the signature items here. It looks like a prata but tastes more like a pizza. The prata is filled with mozzarella cheese, chopped murgh malai tikka, red and green peppers, pineapples, olives and bolognese sauce. It is then sealed with more mozzarella cheese, savory chicken pepperoni and drizzles of oil olive.  The mozz...

So Pho (Clementi Mall) - Vietnamese Chain Restaurant

While   Lap Vietnamese Restaurant   is a quaint Vietnamese restaurant in Novena, So Pho has always been my go-to restaurant for Vietnamese food. I have dined in So Pho on many occasions and here is my review from my latest dining experience in So Pho (Clementi Mall).  This is So Pho (Clementi Mall)’s menu. The menu is the same across all outlets, which you can find   here . There are appetizers, mains, banh mi, beverages and desserts.  For appetizer, I had   Grilled Beef with Mango Salad (Goi Xoai Tron Bo Nurong)   [S$10.80]. It is a refreshing salad of cabbage, tender grilled beef and diced mango with sweet and spicy sauce.  Whenever I have pho, I always go for the bowl with all the beefy ingredients, that is   Pho Sliced Beef with   Tendon Brisket and Beef Balls Noodle Soup (Pho Thap Cam)   [S$12.50]. The soup looks deceptively clear but is very flavorful. The beef tendon, brisket, beef slices and beef balls are all well-co...
